Overall, I liked it. I went into it with this mindset of "Don't compare it to Hospital Playlist, don't compare it to Hospital Playlist...!" (which was a 10/10 in my books), but that was kinda of an impossible task when there was a cameo every single episode 😅 Even so, it was a good show! Well-produced and well-acted. I was a bit apathetic toward our main character Oh Yi-young (maybe because I can relate to her), but I was happy to see her growth as a person and as a doctor. I also thought Go Youn-jung did a great job with the character.
That's where one of my main criticisms comes in—and bear in mind, this is just my opinion: I wish they had given more focus not only to the other characters but also to the non-romantic relationships between them. The couples were cute, of course, but I felt that some other developments were a bit lacking.
+ Nam-kyung and her first GYN patient's scenes weren't many but theirs was my favorite storyline in the drama. The last episode was done well.
Part of me wants only two episodes per week so it takes a long time to end... but I also want to binge-watch the whole thing NOW 😠I'm obsessed. This drama is too good. There's often one element or two in otherwise great shows that annoy me but The Prisoner of Beauty is just *chef's kiss* I'm loving it all.
The Prisoner of Beauty felt like a long-lost love, but I'm so glad it has finally come home!!! I've been waiting and hoping for it to air ever since they dropped that amazing sneak peek back in 2023.
It's SO good and definitely worth the wait. It started on a high note and it keeps getting better and better. 45 minutes feel like 15 when you're invested. I love it when the main couple is the main attraction of a romance drama (I’ve been struggling lately because I keep getting invested in the second leads who only get five minutes of airtime per episode lol). I also love how complicated and intricate the relationships are and the political aspect is done very well. Calling it an 'aspect' feels a bit wrong since our main couple's relationship is (at least initially) very much based on it but well. You get it.
I feel like Liu Yuning was already well-liked internationally but I'm glad Zuer is getting such great reviews too. She's an absolute beauty and a great actress... I haven't seen The Demon Hunter's Romance yet, but I'll definitely check it out after TPoB ends ;-;
No I think they gonna end up together. From my pov I didn't see they broke up. Both main leads business partner…
There's a deleted/alternative scene where Daji is the one who kisses Zhou Shui on the bus in the last episode (or maybe she kissed him back or something like that, I don't recall). It honestly made me rethink the ending imo
Ding Yuxi is such a great actor! His eyes are enough to make the viewer feel the character's sentiments. I mean, I already knew that from watching Love Game in Eastern Fantasy (which I absolutely loved and recommend), but he's somehow even more impressive here? I'll be looking forward to his next works.
Some Korean friends said that Culinary Class Wars really did have a big impact in South Korea and its culinary industry, so I guess that explains it. I thought it was a good, entertaining show.
I recently finished When Life Gives You Tangerines and it really was an outstanding drama as well! I was crying my heart out in pretty much every episode. Very well-written and directed. I'm especially happy for Yeom Hye-ran... everyone did great but I thought she was the clear standout. What a fantastic actress!
I can understand the discontent of some fans but it is what it is :/ I believe that capturing the audience's lasting love matters more than winning an award.
This drama was a conflicting watch. I loved the cinematography and thought the actors had great chemistry, even though their characters were extremely flawed (which I don't think it's a bad thing, but I can understand why some people looking for a romance might dislike it) and unbearably naive. I had to pause and sigh in disbelief several times. I often thought to myself, "What is this scriptwriter even thinking?"
Which is why it may seem strange when I say that I was really, truly cheering for Daji and Zhou Shui to get it right. This might sound harsh, but you have to accept these impulsive and frankly foolish characters for what they are. After all, who hasn't ever felt affection for someone like that?
The ending wasn't a surprise. We viewers literally saw it coming from the very first scene. Still, I felt sad. And that's precisely the reason why I would still rate this drama quite highly. Such a Good Love made me feel true hope and true sadness. Having said that, I don't think I'll ever rewatch it. I would probably come to dislike it.
I loved it!!! I started watching this because of the historical setting (there aren't many Japanese period dramas that are shorter in length), and I didn’t have high expectations, but this! This is the drama I wanted.
Our leads are so charming. They could easily have come off as too mousey (FL) or too shameless (ML), but the actors did an amazing job of making them nuanced, endearing, and easy to root for. The ensemble cast is also great! The best thing about Usotoki Rhetoric, though, is the overall tone of the show. There’s no gore and no over-the-top drama—just good, well-crafted mysteries to be solved. You can rest assured, you won’t be bored. I love classic detective shows, so I was all in :D
And, of course, the production. I imagine this didn't have an exorbitant budget like some other shows, but they really made the most of it. The quaint town of Tsukumoya felt real, warm, and alive. (Honestly, who cares for a big budget if your drama has no soul? It's a waste of money and resources.)
This is a unique and captivating series about the different reasons people lie. There are plenty of fast-paced cop thrillers out there, but I feel like we don’t get shows like Usotoki anymore, which is a shame. For some reason, it reminded me of one of my favorite animes, My Apothecary Diaries, even though there aren’t a lot of similarities between the two when you think about it lol
I'm crossing my fingers for a second season. Like Kinou Nani Tabeta, I could keep watching this for multiple installments. 10/10

This arc is my favorite by a long shot.
