I've always found it super icky when it comes to queer issues in Kdrama's. It always puts me off when they show the usual tropes (falling into their arms, accidently kissing them, stuck in a room together etc.) and the male lead is still under the impression that the female lead is a boy. Like they do all the sappy stuff and they even have the cringey "badump" sound effects going and yet they don't think that this may translate as maybe the main lead is gay or at the very least bisexual. I especially hate it when it's the cold CEO trope. The cold CEO who rejects every girl and then suddenly here comes along a girl dressed as a boy and they find themselves falling in love with them, but the mother of course, has a panic attack at the thought of her son being gay and the whole cast makes insensitive gay jokes, but then then they find out she's a girl and everyone rejoices to the fact that he's not gay. Like It's a bit stupid really. Have you ever thought that his lack of interest in girls and his sudden interest in this feminine looking man may be a sign. And we could do without the drunk outings. Like I got a little uncomfortable with Strong Woman Do Bong Soon when, firstly, for the sake of fan service they made the two main leads do weirdly intimate things while drunk and to top it off a drunk Do Bong Soon proceeds to tell the whole world that the main lead is gay. It's not the first time the "the reason he doesn't like girls is because there is some random rumor he's gay" has been shown and it honestly pisses me off. I know that Korea is a very homophobic country but like these are some really outdated tropes and they need to go.
holy crap I have to be the stupidest person alive lmao. When I saw the title was bed friend I thought that the bl would be about how this guy finds a bed that could like turn into a person and he'd like fall in love with it or something lmao. I know it sounds stupid, but it made so much sense in my head at the time.
Why are people so mad that he said this might be the last time he plays a gay character? firstly it's his choice and secondly, I don't think you realize how much shit he's gone through to play those characters. Eui Soo got a lot of death threats from Korean citizens simply because he's played a gay character more than once. he even said that people were calling him abnormal and even people who he thought were his friends started to distance themselves from him. LGBTQ+ is still taboo is a lot of Asian countries and just the fact that he played a gay character it an achievement in itself. And honestly you can't expect him to play the same character over and over again, of course he's going to try and branch out and expand his acting skills. Not to mention he said it MIGHT be the last time he plays a gay character, which implies he's uncertain. So he may play in a BL again but who knows, and even if he doesn't that's fine too. It's his choice and we need to respect that.
It really depends on which Male lead you're rooting for. There's MAJOR second lead syndrome here and personally I didn't like this drama simply because it wasn't that good. Once again, it really depends on you and your taste but I didn't really like it. Though it should be noted I was only here for Lee Sung Kyung :)
Lmao this was my first ever k-drama and oh my god, Jun Ji Hyun how did it feel carrying the whole show on your back? like honestly her acting is amazing!
Honestly I'm a bit disappointed but not surprised. Series where they have multiple couples isn't something I personally am interested in but I decided to watch this mainly for Boun and Prem and Boom and Peak. Ep 1 was actually pretty good and I thought that maybe it wouldn't be so bad but I was wrong. Most of the stories were too complicated to fit into one episode, some were just a mess, and the only ones with coherent plot lines were episode 6 and episode 1. I'm not surprised tbh because multi-couple series are hard to pull of in the first place because you need plotlines that you can finish in one episode as well as keep the viewer interested and they just didn't do a good job. I will say though that the acting was really good. All the actors and actresses did an amazing job given the shitty plots and lines they were given.
I really, really wish there was more time to explore this super complex plot. It's so beautiful and this is such a unique show, but I really wish there were some things explained better.
Lmao same, I got so scared for a minute that they were gonna make this some half brothers in love type of thing and I was literally gonna cry but thank god they aren't
Well I don't know of any Korean and Chinese crossovers, but if you're interested, you should watch Peach of Time, which is a crossover of Korean and Thai.
