I'm not trying to say that other Asian film/tv industries employ unattractive actors at all. Like the person said, beauty is subjective and I'm just saying most people are more attracted to the Korean beauty standard then they are to any others, and yes that plays a huge role in a how successful a series is. And, I'm not saying Korea's success is down to luck, in fact I never said that and I don't know how you got that impression. And I disagree, Korea may have better production sometimes but that's not why it's so successful. It's pretty obvious Korea uses it's ties to Kpop as a means to attract viewers and it works. Korea uses the same blueprint for every romance drama, coming out with something new once in a while which absolutely is destined to flop then goes back to same blueprint. Why? because people eat it up. Everyone loves a cute fluffy romance filled with abusive tropes they can romanticize on the screen. Korea's production has stayed the same throughout, only ever tweaking bits here and there. It's the same with Chinese drama's as well. Japan's got it the worst since they experiment a lot with what they do and every time they have something good, people just pass it as terrible simply because it came from Japan. Thai drama's are in a weird area since they rely mostly on fan service to get their drama's through, but they do come out with good drama's too. Again, I'm not saying that Japanese and Thai drama's don't follow the same tropes Korea does, but I am saying that production literally has the tiniest say in this. Korea could develop a totally bullshit drama and people would eat it up. And trust me 7.6 is pretty good considering just how ruthless people are on this app. And just scroll to the comment section of Nevertheless and you'll find hundreds of people gushing on how "good" this drama was, particularly on how "handsome" Song Kang is. Yes actors have die hard fans in other Asian industries, I'm not sayin they don't, but there is a pretty obvious gap in between them. of course there are plenty die had fans of Thai bl who defend terrible series but at the end of the day, Korean die hard fans out weigh Thai bl ones. Korean drama's being bigger, have a bigger audience which means that they have a lot more prejudice. Not to mention most die hard bl fans are fanatics for the ships, not particular actors thought there are some. And even with die hard fans in bl, the said bl still get a score which reflects most of the other bl fans too. In fact, in more cases than not, bl's get lower rating than what ( in my own personal opinion), they deserved. Korea has a lot more die hard fans who are blinded by adoration and it shows in the ratings and comments. And obviously the top 5 rated drama's aren't going to be Korean ones if they're only 13 minutes long with barely 8 episodes. And Kdrama bl's already have a lot of prejudice in them. Take Light on me and I told the sunset about you as an example. Both have the same score though both HIGHLY differ in production and acting. I told the sunset about you is hands down one of the best bl's out their, with the production, writing and acting. Winning the Seoul International Drama Awards 2021, Nataraj Awards for Drama Series of The Year, Awards for Best Actor, Nataraj Awards for Best Original Drama and Series Script, among many others. then there Light on me, which was a simple 16 episodes with 20 minutes each with a nice plot, good acting and okay production. It is nowhere NEAR as good as I told the sunset about you yet here it is with the exact same score. now explain that.

It's kinda just a fact. people are more biased to Korean drama's since most of them feature "better looking actors" and they technically went popular worldwide first. It's also because Korean drama's have a strong connection to Kpop. bl's in particular since most Kpop stans are all for skin ship amongst guys and it shouldn't come as a surprise most people on this app are Kpop stans. Another is the actors. Most Korean actors, no matter how bad at acting they are, have a die hard fan group. Take Song Kang and his role in Nevertheless. Nevertheless was an absolute train wreck of a show, with terrible acting all around but it still managed to pull a 7.6 (which considering how harsh people on this site are, is pretty impressive). Whenever people said something bad about Song Kang and his acting, there was a rush of people waiting to defend him. His fans, no matter how terrible the series and his acting was, still gave it high ratings simply because he was in it. it's actually pretty sad how biased this site is. Japanese, Taiwanese, Chinese and Thai series face so much more criticism because their actors usually "don't look as nice" and somehow, since one of their drama's aren't good the rest aren't either.
that's a bit harsh. I mean it's just the first episodes so I think you hardly judge it right now. It could be…
Makes sense :) Personally I feel bad giving any drama a low score unless it really let me down or something, so I tend to rate drama's in the 9-10 area. That's why I thought you were giving it a low score and honestly I thought that was a bit harsh, but your scoring system is different to mine so it makes sense lmao.
9.0, seriously??? I know it's just the first episode, but this is looking more like a 6 or 7 to me.
that's a bit harsh. I mean it's just the first episodes so I think you hardly judge it right now. It could be a 6 or 7 depending on the future episodes going forward but so far I think it's good :)
Just finished the first episode and OH MY GOD IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! THE END CREDIT WAS EVERYTHING I WANTED AND MORE AND I SERIOUSLY DON'T KNOW HOW I'M GOING TO WAIT A WHOLE WEEK FOR IT!
I'm just starting the first episode and I can't breathe rn lmao. I've waited for this for so long and I'm just so excited! Idk how I'm going to wait a whole week for the next episodes.
I definitely agree. I would choose quality over quantity any day. He's got a nice face, but he has the same facial…
Sadly, I think you're right. If you ever go to Korean forums, they don't like Song Kang and most don't even know him. It was surprising to me because he's so famous outside of Korea for his good looks, while Korean's themselves say he looks average. It quite sad how nowadays you just need a nice face to be called an 'actor'.
There's so many comments that against season 2 and 3. You can read it from the previous article few weeks ago…
Really? Oh I didn't know that lol. I thought people would attack me for saying the female lead wasn't a good actress or something. This drama definitely doesn't need a season two, let alone a season 3. I agree, they may just have too much money to spend.
I definitely agree. I would choose quality over quantity any day. He's got a nice face, but he has the same facial…
Yea He didn't do a good job with Love Alarm either. Idk I feel like he keeps getting casted in the shittiest drama's but like he's not a good actor so it just makes it even shittier than before. Like if it was some experienced actors playing these roles, they would do a better job, or if Song Kang just got some damn acting lessons it would be more bearable. I really hope he takes a break to try and improve, because the way he's going he's just becoming a trend. As soon as a producers start realising how low the ratings are and the feedback they're getting from fans, they'll discard him. Not the first time that's happened and definitely won't be the last.
This actor went from "I want to see more" (Sweet Home) to "please take a long vacation with some extensive soul…
I definitely agree. I would choose quality over quantity any day. He's got a nice face, but he has the same facial expressions for every character he plays. If he just took some acting classes and took a break to work and hone in on his skills, I think he would improve, but unfortunately, they keep thrusting him into main roles that he obviously doesn't know to preform. Not to mention a lot of the character's he plays are very different to the original Male lead mould. For example, in Nevertheless, he plays Park Jae-Eon, who unlike most playboy cold male leads, doesn't change for the sake of the girl. Park Jae-Eon is an unapologetic asshole who plays with women until he gets bored and never commits to a relationship. Its not an easy character to pull off and Song Kang didn't do a great job at portraying him to be honest. It was definitely a character more suited for a more experienced actor and the rating's and reviews show that. I mean I'll cut a bit of slack by saying that Nevertheless was actual shit. like the plot was a mess, the acting was terrible and the message of "it doesn't matter if he's an abusive asshole, as long as he's good in bed" was just dangerous and that's why it received such low ratings, but he was part of the problem.
No offense to anyone but I don't think we need a second season. I mean the first season was boring enough (it's a miracle I even made it through season one) but a second and third?! I admit Kim So Yeon is a huge improvement (no offense to the original actress but I just didn't think she was that good) since she knows how to act and I would literally watch whatever's she's in no questions asked, but seriously, their are so many other shows that were left open-ended that in my opinion, deserve a second season more. Again, just my opinion so please don't kill me.
Aww I felt so bad for the both of them honestly. Like Aoki kept trying to tell him how he felt to no avail. but then like Ida seemed so heartbroken and he probably just wanted to leave so he acted like it was okay, but Aoki took it as he didn't care that much and now I'm just screaming into my pillow as I wait for ep 4
I totally get what you mean about Doom at Your Service. Like this one line, "But you are the coke in the fridge in another town that I cannot lay my hands on". like dude are you hungry, horney or stupid? Like I genuinely can't tell what the plot of this was and of some asked me I would just say handsome man and pretty girl. that's it. I had to drop it cause it was so boring and kept giving me ptsd from 2014 tumblr with all the deep fake quotes.
