the slap her mom gave her, i didn't except itNGL her mother was right somehow, since her dad in nowhere to be…
Her mom was telling her no matter what happens to us you have to live you are the last bloodline of the Cheng family. The ability to save the family is a bonus. But CSS’ mom wanted her to live and not be implicated with them since CSS has a away out.
I don't think they deserved it per se, but they were inciting the 5th princess behavior (in more than one occasion…
Yes I thought that it was very harsh. I think another reason for killing them is to stifle the rumors of the 5th princess and her male aides.
I was thinking death was pretty extreme, though, castration probably wouldn’t be any better. It’s awful having to be made into a eunuch too. Some men probably rather die than being into a eunuch. Plus keeping them alive would not be a good idea as they are giving the princess awful advice. So LBY and the emperor probably thought the best course would be to kill them.
In episode 43, it’s so funny how LBY’s troops are helping CSS sneak into the military camp. I always felt that it is amazing that LBY has such loyal troops at such a young age.
Emperor and Consort Yue are more caring towards Empress. CPrince tolerates CPrincess.
The Crown Princess made her own bed. The CP is a very kind person and he could’ve grown to love her but she had too many insecurities and let those insecurities dominate her. She did some cruel and stupid things because of feelings of inferiority.
I think he's really matured as an actor since TLB.And he's definitely getting more confident for those kissing…
I read or watched a youtube video that claimed that Dilraba didn’t want to kiss Wu Lei because she was older than he was and probably didn’t want to be seen as robbing the cradle so to speak. She probably didn’t want to get hate from fans or something.
I am rather disappointed with how the emperor handled Marquis Yue punishment. He’s always partial to his family. The…
Yes this emperor is very benevolent and seems to want everyone to reconcile and get along. I think his handling of Marquis Yue also stemmed from his love for Consort Yue and the contributions of the Yue family to his fight or the throne.
Wooh i love this topic.I can argue both sides of the fence as they have a troubled past and even if they did have…
I love dissecting the characters too. These gray characters makes for very interesting story telling. Oh I wanted to add it’s not only honor it’s also duty, filial piety that influences LBY’s revenge actions. One of GRRM’s characters said “duty is heavier than a mountain” and I feel that is how LBY feels. LBY has an obligation to everyone who died in Gu city to avenge their deaths, especially his parents death. The guy has a memorial for all of the dead.
I get how you can be disappointed though. I personally cannot be with someone who is all consumed with revenge or has so much death on his hands. We also want to feel that love trumps all, that someone can let go of there of their revenge for love. But sadly that wasn’t the case here , and that is also why this drama is so dramatic and interesting. But LBY, from the book, does regret it.
You can read the book too but you would have to use google translate. It’s not perfect but I wanted to know LBY’s real identity and what enfolded next in the story.
In the book, Lou Yao and his wife are exempt from the crime of his family. They actually live the life that he and CSS dreamed about, being magistrates of a city.

From reading the book, unfortunately LBY wasn’t able to find enough evidence to bring Ling Yi to justice. The catalyst that prompted LBY to act when he did is that his aunt passed away. She was the only person besides him who knew what happened and who can vouch for his identity. You can check out my above comment for my information too. I am not trying to justify LBY’s actions because I am like you I would choose a more legal, nonviolent way to find justice for my family. However, circumstances where not in LBY’s favor and he acted the way he did and later regretted it. Plus his whole mantra as a child was to get revenge for his family and not let anyone who killed his family go. This was drilled into him by his aunt. So I really feel for LBY. On one hand if he doesn’t take revenge than he is letting down his whole clan. He is letting down his aunt who claimed him as her son, in place of her own son. On the other hand because of his crime of killing the whole Ling clan, which the emperor can forgive him for probably, but he moved troops in the CP’s name or something so he was sentenced to 7 years of exile. In doing so he lost CSS because he choose revenge over her.
Also from watching a lot of Chinese historical dramas, it seems there are some things such as, honor, that is placed higher than love. The good of the country is one. So I can understand why LBY did what he did, though I don’t agree with it.
I read one of the comments in YouTube that in the novel, what happened to Gu city was very graphic, like Huo Chang’s…
I read the book through google translate to my interpretation might not be perfect. But LBY took his revenge when he did because his mom/aunt died. She has been drilling into his head to take revenge, since she saved him from her husband’s troops. She was also the only person who can vouch for his real identity. Back then it is a huge crime to kill one’s father, and he had pretended to be Ling Yi’s son for many years. Also, he decided to kill Ling Yi and all of the Ling clan because the Ling family, through Ling Yi’s brother’s branches where planning on marrying therefore expanding their family. LBY didn’t want to have to kill more people and he didn’t have enough evidence.
So unfortunately, his aunt/mom’s death forced him to act sooner than he wanted. He also didn’t marry CSS because he didn’t want to involve her on her family with his actions. If he is convicted of killing the Ling family and for using the CP’s tiger seal to move troops to kill the Ling family than CSS and her family could be implicated too if they were married.
LBY did regret his actions and didn’t want to be separated from CSS after she had helped to verify his identity that he was General Hou’s son and not Ling Yi’s son. However, the empress wanted them to be separated since all of this happened.
So the above is the author’s rationale for LBY’s actions. The drama might changed some things however. From my understanding too back if someone killed your father you are morally obligated to take revenge, or the revenge is justified. Personally, revenge is not a route I would take, but I am not LBY and I did not grow up in those circumstances. So far the drama has done a great job in showing us flawed, gray characters. I am excited to see more episodes and how everything unfolds.
LBY does not believe the rumor. And SS will handle it with grace. 5th princess will get severely punished.. LBY…
You might be right LBY killed those favorites. I went back and started rereading from Chapter 102 and how the emperor punished those girls’ brother’s and fathers by demoting them. Chapter 103 opens up with how the 5th princess found her favorites dead after she was locked up for a few days in the palace. So LBY probably killed them cause it didn’t say that who did. But the 5th princess was punished too by her parents.
But she was punished mainly by setting up CSS of murdering Lou Yitong’s maid with a scarf. The maid accused LBY of molesting her or something. I don’t see this story line in the drama yet.
Even while reading the novel, his reasons were not clear to me. CP was unsure who to choose among the two ladies,…
I think that from CSS’s perspective is that the CP married his current wife because he partly felt sorry for her and he married her because he sees his mother in her. Not physically or personality wise but how she is treated. He also felt that since the other girl was renowned for her abilities that she will be married easily.
I read or watched from somewhere that Reba herself didn’t want to have a kiss scene with him in the Long Ballad due to his age. She didn’t want to start fans giving her negative comments and press I guess.

Plus CSS’ is less patient than Minglan. CSS has street smarts and is cunning, Minglan is truly smart.
I finished the novel a week ago. I skipped the very beginning and started reading after she in LY broke up
