Xue FangFei calling Shen Yurong a mean and pathetic man. That must have cut deep for him.I feel bad for Shen Yurong…
Not sure what episode you are on but he clearly was on on it. He confronts his sister on it later. His task was to get rid of his wife and the princess was to get rid of XFFâs father. So he did ruin her reputation , killed her, and was involved in the demise of her family.

Yes, I agree. If I was the dad I wouldnât have let my daughter marry him. I wouldnât be have said you pass the exams and after you make something of yourself than you could plead your case. This is not the only story where a scholar who passed the exam had a lady form powerful family interested in them . As a parent I want to see the man prove their worth. And besides even if he seemed all good and upright his mother is not. As a parent I would have insisted on vetting him more and testing his mettle, a long engagement would have been better. But that princess is crazy so who knows what she wouldâve made Shen do if she found out he had a sweetheart already.

He might feel remorse and he seems tormented but I do not believe he loved her enough. He loves himself, his reputation, career, his own ambitions and life more. He intentionally set out to frame and kill her. He also let her brother and father be killed and tortured. A man who sets out destroy his wife and her family for his own ends does not truly love his wife. This is not the type of love I want.
I get it he seems all remorseful but he is despicable. I would not want my daughters being involved with a man like that. He basically betrayed his ideals and principles when he let himself be seduced by the princess. He is weak and I hope that those words rocks him and leads him to repentance and redemption.
I have just realised that I wouldn't survive in this drama, as a matter of fact I was not going to make it out…
I wouldnât survive either. These people are so underhanded. I donât know how a more honest person can protect themselves back then, especially if your husband has multiple concubines. A bunch of women vying for the attentions of the same man, scary what underhanded tricks they can pull.
Heâs too focused on this own matters, he doesnât care unless it has an impact on the familyâs reputation.
Also, the stepmom comes from a powerful family so she has backing, and her younger sister is a favorite of the emperor. They just canât easily get rid of her. The grandma seems to suspect but doesnât do anything to cause ripple in the family compound. I was discussing all of these dynamics with my mom who is also watching the show. She says that Chinese families generally during that time focused on the family. The family reputation , name, prestige was paramount, so they got rid of anyone who can sully the family reputation. Such as the poor JL, she has such as bad reputation for what she supposedly did so it was better to send her away, out of sight, out of mind. Human lives wasnât valued as much you can see how they treat their servants and wanting to get rid of the concubineâs baby etc. Not everyone was like that of course. But from watching all of these historical dramas it seems to be a common practice. I am Chinese myself so I am not trying to judge, this is just my observation. I am just grateful to live in this time period and to be a Christian.
The punishment became abandonment. Literally none of the family ever visited her. She was left there for 10 years.…
The maid was grandmaâs maid and she was a tong fong. So someone, who is sent to a young manâs room to be there for his needs before he is married. Gross practice. The tong fong can be elevated to concubine status later. So the dad has two wives so far, Jiang liâs mom and thr stepmom. Concubines are not considered wives. This whole practice is very abhorrent to me but it was the common practice for wealthy men back then.
it can't start before because he wasn't an official at this time. the affair began when he became an official.
Shen Yurong goes to visit his relatives in Fangfeiâs town. They fall in loves and she leaves to go with him and they got married in the capital. So I believe she was married to him for three years before he âkilled her.â She even pawned her jade pendant for him because he was studying so much so they had been married for awhile.
I have a feeling that the third uncle will approach fl and says he knows she isn't the real JL. He might break…
She said that her âJiangâ dad abandoned her for 10 years so she is taking Xue dad as her âgod fatherâ or honorary father. Her uncle thinks that she is very filial and has a good heart. So that is her way of explaining it.
Hi!The Duke had a suspicion about her identity when he first met her at Zhennyu Hall because he took a glimpse…
The name that she wrote on the slip when she pawned off the jade pendant was a li. My guess is that she didnât want to put her official name on the slip. So ever since then he has been calling her that. It is also a term of endearment as other people have mentioned.
Are you just at the beginning? The drama is upfront that the Shen family totally recognizes her. They just don't…
The Shen ladies do recognize her or comment on resemblance . They thought that she was a ghost or something. But the ex husband said that sincerely her family claimed her that is who she is. He also went to dig up where he buried her so he since her found her flute and body he no longer suspects.
