This is a very sad drama.. but Liu Xiao Xu's performance is beyond outstanding. That man lived this role and he really should be recognized for full length dramas
The drama had inspiration but its not based on real life story it is based on a webtoon. If there's an issue the…
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeonsangun_of_Joseon Your research is questionable. Look, when the FMC arrives in the past and meets the emperor, she KNOWS who he is, and she is afraid of him. She knows his deeds and mentions it several times. This fictional story it based on him, there just no way to deny it. But it's fiction, and it's a retelling , a 'what if' story..
Honestly people should have stopped caring about historical accuracy the moment they saw the “time travel”…
Yes, I didn't expect accuracy, haha... That's just dumb..And I wouldn't watch a story about King Yeonsangun. But because it is based on a real life person, they use the true facts to build the story around. So we always have to deal with that, and often the 'deaths' in the true story are the facts they choose to include. Of course this was going to be a fictional light story when it's called Bon Appetit, Your Majesty and based around solving probs with cooking. Early on they show us 'this' emperor is not doing some of the things he did in real life, but it's deflected onto a side character. So I had hope..That's why the blood bath at the end feels shocking. Gong from a macaron saves the day to everyone being gutted. But it's not unusual for KDramas, or Asian Dramas to do that, I know. It's just one of my least fav things and I foolishly chose to watch this as it aired instead of waiting to see how they would tell this story.
Ultimately I was disappointed in this drama. I was enjoying it and looked forward to it. Since I knew about the emperor this was based on, I saw early on they were deflecting some of his egregious acts onto someone else, ( the forced gathering of young girls). So I accepted this was a story about if history didn't get it exactly right, and if he had someone step in who changed him with love. I can enjoy that. But they took us through 10 eps of light hearted drama, where cooking can save the say. A macaron, hometown soup, a pressure cooker. So the buckets of blood at the end was just not fun, I wasn't moved, I was annoyed. These type of dramas always make me feel set up. I didn't watch KDramas for a long while for this reason, switching to other countries dramas. ( I know they have those happy, happy, everyone dies dramas also :) ) But I've been more careful for many years, but they got me again. So I am more annoyed with myself. The ending was lame, instead of showing me more bodies hacked up, show me how he got back to her.. How did he survive in the modern world before he met her. She even asked, but he doesn't answer. Another annoyance.
Why would you say it wasn't about her cooking? Look at the title, at how many episodes were about cooking.. Look…
ok my apologies. I guess , imo, this was a rom/com cooking show, it's presented like that, with back burner politics. It's tone was pretty light hearted with cooking somehow saving the day in each ep. haha.. So the blood bath was just too much imo..
A lot of people are shocked about how Episode 11 took such a turn. But honestly, wasn’t this what we were expecting…
Why would you say it wasn't about her cooking? Look at the title, at how many episodes were about cooking.. Look at the title of each episode and how her cooking supposedly solved so many problems. haha.. And that's why this is a frustrating shock. Because this was a light weight story, where the problems were solved with a macaron. Where she , early on, crawled back into her shackles treating it like it was just a nightly ritual. The developing romance was a significant part of this story, it can't be denied. This was a story based on a true murderous despot. But if they wanted to give an alternate story about how his path changed from that because he met the FMC, I could go along. I did . Yes we knew about the plans to dethrone him, but again, the tone of this drama has been light, humorous, heart warming, romantic... and boom.. Blood Bath.. It's quite a disappointment. I have seen it MANY times tho in Kdramas, I just thought they were over it.
This is why I don't like to watch Historical Dramas based on real people. If you say we knew this was coming, I say, the whole drama set us up to think it would not. It was a light hearted, romantic, funny drama. To turn into a blood fest just makes me feel set up and annoyed. To be honest, it never set well with me how this emperor who was a real life despicable person, was turned into a romantic lead.. Even in this drama they make it that he didn't really do the crime that will go down in history as 'blamed' on him. But I felt , if they want to tell the story of an alternate possibility, a what if story, if he met someone before he turned into a mass murdered I could enjoy that. But to go from the big tension is how a meal turns out, how the FMC happily puts her shackles back on while joking with her friend to everyone being sliced to bits, that's a big disappointment to me. They lost me.
I was watching last night, removed this morning:/... It starts with her in jail, trouble with her parents/a death... it's not entirely clear to me. She breaks up with her BF while in jail... 5 years later she has a child and seeks employment and ends up at her ex's company as his assistant. That's as far as I got.
I was watching this one and it was removed. Anyone know another name for : She hides pregnancy for revenge, dumps CEO; 5 yrs later he’s her boss, spoils her&child
I just finished this and I am stunned how good it was. I liked the first one and when this first came out I took a peek at the first ep. I was too influenced by my feelings for the first one and found the actors alien and all seemed a little forced. I quit probably 10 minutes into it. Much later, I knew it received good reviews and with nothing else to watch so I started it. It's SO much better than I imagined, the actors REALLY shined, I felt their emotions so strongly. Especially Tian Xu Ning , he was so great in this role. I just wanted to hug him when he was sad. The whole production was so lovely and heartfelt. The music, the set design, the second couple and the mother of Wu Suo Wei . She felt very real, and her hospital scenes looked authentic. This is a moving telling of this story, It instantly became my fav BL, but one of my fav dramas that moved me so much. .

I understand that people can be upset about this.. My feeling is they should just censor it for themselves. There are very many stories throughout cultures and history that tell the love story of an innocent and an evil one. It's not new, and it's not everyone's taste, but I don't see how it's a slur against someone's religion or culture. I don't think there was an outcry against the TV series Lucifer and it involves a love story.. Nor the myth/story of Persephone and Hades. There are many I could name. I am looking at intent and I don't think the intent is to malign a religion or culture here, but to tell a particular story. Just my opinion.
This was super cute and funny. The FL has quite a knack for comedy. The leads were very natural and had great chemistry. The poster above shows different people than who's in it.
There is romance and kisses between ML and FL. They even get married in ep 20.
:) You're a glass half full kind of person:) That's great. I wasn't sure I wanted to watch this, I still don't know. But I am all about the romance so this doesn't entice me. But thanks for letting me know the facts:)
