Thankfully this one reached an 8.6. Personally for me, plotwise, this drama has more substance than many of the top ranked ones. Its sad to see that it still hasn't reached the peak of its popularity. Maybe it'll get better.

The drama is the most fast paced xianxia I've watched to date. The plot is very different and gets serious around EP 6 (for the ML). There are many behind the scenes stuff happening, too. I liked Ashes of Love in its own way, and if you went through that, you can expect similar scenarios happening in the future.
I have to say, Xu Feng is more powerful and superior being with a more dominating aura. Sifeng is a mortal and sort of like a really sweet and tolerant kitten. He is personally one of the "unique" male leads I've seen in a costume drama. Or that maybe just my bias. ;)

I love her subtitles a lot! Every drama in her website has notes to make it easier for us and I think her subtitles for L&R are more accurate than official sites'.

This had a really high score in China's Douban. Heck, in MDL, it stayed with 9.1 ratings even after the rating revival with 198 reviews and only fell to 7.9 this week with 177 ratings.
I really want to watch this, but I have extreme anxiety issues when it comes to huge exams, and easily get affected by emotions of people going through the same thing. But, I am watching I Don't Want to be Friends with You, which deals with the same stuff, so, I will give this one a go after that. :)

Nah. Hao Chen doesn't even deserve to be compared to Run Yu. I couldn't find a single likeable thing from Hao Chen. I wanted Run Yu to desperately wake up, but this guy? His brain was in some other galaxy.

I watched through a fansubber (Productive Procrastinator) and she translated it as "Gold Winged Bird". Official subtitles are usually translated for easier understanding of the viewers and a lot of minor stuff like this is lost.

I think they are just having fun. This happens "a lot" from where I come from.

Both the room mates make fun of the ML cause he shows no interest in any sort of entertainment. Chen Qinan repeatedly annoys him with the other girl Ling Wei, even though he knows its not official.
His friends are the ones who tell him off for not helping her when she fell into the lake. Plus, they spent a lot of time together due to certain circumstances too, even if they didn't like each other. They don't take the CP-ing seriously, and Qin Shen does ask them at one point why they think he likes her. In my opinion he grew used to all their teasing and sort of didn't like it when his special status was in danger with the entry of the SML.

I once saw a real event like this. A girl made fun of a guy who simply showed his polite behaviour towards another girl by stepping back and letting her get down the bus first. She continued CPing them - until they became an actual CP.

It's worth it. I liked it and it's one of the top dramas for me this year, but someone I suggested it to did not cause the plot is "serious". And the last half of the drama is very rushed. But, I would suggest to slowly watch it without binging and keep low expectations so that you won't be let down. Plus, the OST is to die for!!

Most of the modern cdramas that get instant subtitles are sweet candies rated about 6 - 7 points in douban.
The serious ones are high rated or very lowkey in MDL.
It definitely is one of the best dramas this year for me.

The ending became clear to me too, at least if it followed the book - what made it unsatisfactory is the pace. I also watched it with bad translations, so the last part of the plot was lost to me. But, watching this gave me the push to continue Nirvana In Fire since they both have many similarities. After watching a few more dramas this year, I have to say, this is the most serious one. When it comes to CDramas, I prefer douban ratings too. They seem more on point.

The ending is really rushed. To me, it seemed happy but we don't actually see the main couple together at the end, though it is implied. Technically happy.
