it's been so long since I enjoyed a recent kdrama a good kdrama with an actual story! the poster misled me bcz I thought this was gonna be some light teen romance but oh I was so wrong, I don't think I cried this much for a kdrama ( at least recently) it was so heartwarming and heart wrenching at the same time! I'm glad I watched this
I think the biggest barrier was the age gap, both in universe and irl. That combined with this being early in…
I'm not a fan of age gap but surprisingly I didn't mind this one. I actually like Jin Se Yeon's early works, they are one of my favourites. it's like her roles transmigrate to other dramas, which some people might not appreciate because it makes her characters all the same but I do, it's like visiting drama world with the same fl. I liked her acting here except for the romance. the plot didn't do her character justice, nevertheless she's still a likeable fl.
I like Go Soo's acting but not here. I was actually shocked because he's such a good actor, plus his character was overall boring and that's probably why they pulled the corrupt route but it didn't work because we were in the late stages of the story. the plot tried to give him importance but to me he felt like a support role not the main lead.
This is why I tend to not like when they use real historical figures because somebody is gonna complain it's not realistic even tho the dramas note the story is fiction, it makes the characters predictable because if you know the history, you'll know their ending.
damsel in distress is my most hated esp when the fl is supposedly strong but she achieves nothing and constantly needs guys to do things for her and protect her
rewatched this drama after so many years! I still think the ml should've been the king or seong jihun not yun taewon so I'm glad there was barely any romance. they could've spicied up her scenes with seong jihun, lost potential. tbh oknyeo was a lot animated and herself with the king than with yun taewon, the fact that he turned out to be her cousin was very awkward. yun taewon was my least favourite character, very boring ml. yun taewon should've taken care of the innocent from the yun family like shinhye and the concubine and her child, it's sad she was begging in the streets, that was too harsh of an ending for her and shinhye nothing known about her, sad.
I rated this back then 9/10 but I'll drop to 8-8.5/10
