Although I enjoyed the drama and think it has production values, but it also has some flaws IMHO as a Jin Yong drama.

Firstly, the script is mediocre, so much have been changed from the novel. Sure the overall line look like the same, but some details have been changed. Nan Lan and Tian are whitewashed into a good loving couple seeking true love while they pushed the blame into Miao Renfeng into irresponsible husband and dad. Tian's treasure seeking line is deleted, he will attack and blinded Miao Renfeng only for revenge because Nan Lan will suffer a miscarriage after meeting Miao(WTH?!!) . The Red Flower Club is reduced, Zhao Banshan is either reduced or deleted, without the treasure and political opposition party, seems like the writers are lazy to write and went all out on creative spree. Do you think Jin Yong will be happy? Do you know that Jin Yong despised the 1999 Snow Mountain Flying Fox because they changed so much?

Tbf as an individual work, the drama is not bad, it stays true to wuxia and has good production values. However this drama will get low scores in douban because the original novel fans are hating the changes. Though actually I hated douban because a few years ago it was a credible place to get reference on a drama, but now it's a toxic place full of crazy fans and haters(my fav Lusi is so hated in douban).

The screenwriter love Nan Lan and Tian so much LOL, there is a detail process of their love that wasn't in the novel, that's why the whitewash and break now become Miao's fault, I can't believe they're trying to whitewash Tian as a perfect man and Nan Lan as a perfect mother and Miao Renfeng as a bad husband and dad. All are far from the novel.

As for Zhao Banshan, I have no idea why they cut him out.

The character Miao Renfeng is a pity, I think this screenwriter has a grudge on the character or the actor LOL, it's much better in the novel. In the novel Miao and Nan Lan separated because of they are not compatibe which made her fled with Tian, who has hidden agenda and not true love, leaving her baby behind. But the drama write Miao as a husband who often left his wife and child behind for personal mission, and forcefully grabbing the baby custody from the mom.

Yuan Ziyi will be a nun, I saw some set pictures out there, but yeah the drama has toned down Ziyi and Nan Lan, and also Tian Gui Nong(in the novel he's just using Nan Lan to get a treasure, in the drama it's true love between two people and the treasure part is scrapped, is he still a villain anymore or is being reshaped as a perfect family man working hard to build up his sect?)

The drama make Nan Lan and Tian a two way true love, and made Tian a loving father candidate, and push the blame for the failed marriage into Miao Renfeng, but I still feel sympathy for Miao Renfeng hahah

Haha not all wuxia, but many do, This drama is adapted from a quite dark and unpopular Jin Yong novel, the whole tone of the novel is quite dark, it's not your feel good wuxia, so yeah.

The drama made Nan Lan a much better woman than the novel, the novel Nan Lan straight away abandon her daughter 🤣

Hahaha, but in the drama she got closer to Tian after his 'death', and that was when she realize she can't live like this.

I feel the drama is changing things, Nan Lan and Tian are more despicable in the novel but in the drama they are more normalized. If you notice in the opening theme, there is a scene of Miao and Nan Lan that is not being aired yet, and he's holding her hand? So we don't know yet if she will be dead or alive by the end.

From perspective of a modern woman here, handsome only not enough, what a woman want is a sense of security, whether emotionally or monetarily. A handsome face can't feed the family hahaha.

But of course for the drama I sympathize Miao ^^
