"She would look pretty if she lost weight" doesn't mean that everyone looks pretty if they're thin. Some people will still be ugly when they lose the weight. Every person is different.
But most fat people will benefit from losing at least some of the weight. Because the fat drowns the features, the eyes look smaller etc. Not to mention the body. An obese person cannot be pretty, but you can discern beautiful features under all that layers, and can try to guess how she would look if she got rid of them. Sometimes the guess is right, sometimes it's not. For instance the actress' face in her thin version is not as pretty as the fat version makes us suppose that she would be. If anything, she's a bit too gaunt - at least in my personal opinion.

Look, it's not just about that particular actor and that particular role. Everyone knows that losing weight too quickly is dangerous. Plus it will lead to terrible skin sagging and the person will look haggard and awful. Especially for an actor or actress, it's the last thing you want.

Think, just for a bit. How long is the shooting for a movie or even a drama? Two, three months? Five months? Maximum. How long does a 117 kg person need to reach 50-52 kilos (actual weights of the character in the drama)? It's much too quick. But even if she's able to do it, it may be dangerous for her health. And what happens if she is not able to reach this goal on time? Should the whole shooting be delayed?
Plus, the show has flashbacks since the first episodes that show her slim, how would they be able to do that? Wait until she loses the weight to film them?
Oh, and if she was less fat, it wouldn't have the same impact on the story.

It's called a review. In what way this prevents you from enjoying the drama? By reading the first couple of paragraphs you can surely see that she didn't like it, so why read on and spoil your mood? Just go to some other page.

Who said it's a drama recap? It's a drama review. Two very different things.

What negative stereotypes? Yes, South Korea has stringent beauty standards, but in this case I didn't see anything amiss in the scenes you mentioned (mostly from the 1st episode)
1. Most fat peope overeat, it's a fact. Only a tiny minority gets fat because of health conditions. Yes, we typically love food, think about food, browse recipes to make or online shops to order from and the smell coming out of physical bakeries makes them one of the worst temptations.
2. Asians love snacks like chips. Even thin people eat this junk all the time in dramas (especially Chinese ones, it always makes me wonder how many toxic chemicals they're ingesting).
3. The buttons. Fat people do buy their own size WHEN they are able to find it (not that easy in European or Asian countries). But even then, you can always get fatter, so when they do gain more weight, the previous size gets too tight. It's often an upward journey to more and more weight, so the button situation can totally happen. Especially if you've just eaten a meal, or if you bend too much and strain the thread.
So I'm not sure why you would feel like that. Maybe you are a thin person, in which case it's natural that you honestly have no idea about how it is for us and that's why you think that the depiction is exaggerated.

In what way did you find it disturbing? Because they show her loving food and overeating?

Talk it out? Like what? Let him try to convince her and her having to say all those things over again? Or him ask for details about her feelings and her not wish to give any? She said everything that needed to be said at that point. Later on, if needed, they can talk more calmly.
When you say "impulsive", do you mean that if she let things cool off for a few days, she should come back to wanting to marry him? We saw how little enthusiasm she had for the marriage even before Jungo showed up. She realized that she doesn't feel love for him, only liking as a companion and friend. Therefore it would be bad not only for her but also for him if she married him, because none of them would be happy. She realized that all this time she had yielded because it was the "reasonable" thing to do, not because she really wanted this man at her side as her husband. This is something that had been brewing for a while, it didn't happen only because she saw Jungo again. His presence just made her realize how she really felt, by seeing the difference of her reaction to one man and to the other.

No, no, don't worry! Why would you hurt me? I am not the FL character, and I've never been in that situation either. We're talking theoretically.

As soon as she realized the state of her feelings that she had somehow kept buried, she honestly burned the bridges with the other man, because she doesn't want to give false hopes and lead him on, or marry him and cheat even if only emotionally.

I'm really not getting your reasoning. What she's saying is in response to his question about whether he should have confessed earlier. She replied saying that the attraction to Jungo is so strong that in any circumstance she would leave other commitments to follow him. It was a way to let him know that he shouldn't blame himself for not confessing earlier, that it would have made no difference. And that also that he shouldn't pursue her further, because even if they got married, she would still prefer Jungo given the chance.
The goal of all this is to make it perfectly clear that they shouldn't get married. She burns all bridges and sets him free, with harsh words, so that he has no little window of doubt or hope, so that he doesn't try to dissuade her and say "Well, let's get married for now, and you may have a change of heart later, we all change as we grow older" as he said in an earlier scene.

Everything you say is true. However, dramatically speaking, if a film or series isn't showing even a glimpse of something, to indicate that it exists, then it doesn't exist. (I don't know if I'm explaining it well!) They could have shown at least one second of her working and feeling lonely at work, or calling him from work once, or something like that. And the university thing is left completely in the air, no information at all. Just the lie to her sister.

But she was really very honest with Min Jun. And she's not two-timing. The moment she realized that she still isn't over Jungo, she told Min Jun exactly what's going on. Even without being sure of what will happen with the other guy, and more or less being sure that she will end up alone. One cannot blame her at all here.

I don't want to excuse Jungo for not putting her as a priority, for not being more firm when other people claim his presence, for not answering her calls and not sending her a message to say he'll be late, and for not enquiring about her state of mind and what's going on with her. Those things are inexcusable indeed.
HOWEVER:
Why on earth does she solely depend on his company for social life and entertainment? She is "like family" with her co-workers, surely she can hang out with them and their friends and from them meet new people, men and women, and slowly form a circle of her own, people to talk to, to go out with etc.
How come she is sitting at home moping, without anything to do but waiting for her man?
Why did she not go to the university? She told her sister a lie, that she wasn't accepted, while she was. We didn't get an explanation for that (are they waiting until the end of the drama?) Is it indeed because it was costly? But she hadn't enquired beforehand and did her calculations? Jungo pays for his tuition by working at multiple jobs, why can't she do the same? From the moment they got together we haven't seen her working, is she even working at Ichiro's Ramen?
What I want to say is that she also has some responsibility in all this. She shouldn't depend on him only. He is working like mad to build their future. And if she is indeed not working (or only working at one part-time job), does it mean that he is also paying for her food and other necessities?
The drama is vague on all these questions which are not without their importance.

Drop it to avoid wasting any more time. It's called cutting your losses.

And many many other dramas, unfortunately.

I had to scroll past some parts. That is mind-bogging, I think it surpasses even the Nazi experiments! But the article doesn't mention Koreans.

Probably the producers are very keen not to offend the Japanese too much, since they are part of the intended audience. So they want to make sure that nobody hates them today or something like that. There's a good saying in Italian that fits perfectly: "Mettere le mani avanti", it means, literally, "to put one's hands in front of him" (to prevent falling, just in case).

I am not judging whether this is right or wrong. I'm just answering the question of why it's done.
