The novel really doesn't have that character. Well, it sort of does. Since it's a rebirth story after the FL was killed badly the first time around she decided she wanted to be able to not only defend herself but go after the people who hurt her so she found an instructor to teach her, the assassin. But it was more employer/employee thing. There was no shipped off to abusive foster parents and meeting a shipwrecked assassin in the story. She grew up at home. She thought it was a happy home, until she got killed by the loving family. Totally different story!
