I think the reconnect was too forced, elevator scene with the trip and catch trope, to the follow up - dream, to a forced reason to think about each other more
Honestly, he is way better than in the novel, so at least the script writers did a lot of work to make him less…
They made him a better character on screen - but they did not change their story. Which makes it weird for me. Because I don't see a shameful and painful relationship - YET

One of her concerns is the cost. Which stifles their experiences because if he wants to rent a restaurant to have steak - she would not be comfortable because of the cost. (and he would have to rent the restaurant or have a team dinner - since they are a secret). Remember she still has not used the bag he gave her because it is expensive. So if he wants to gift her something it has to be from Walmart or something π
