I hope your mind is changed on this by now! Chen Xiao is a new actor to me but I found him to play the part very…
I've dropped this drama for now haha. I've seen Chen Xiao in other things before and find him fine, but honestly, I'm just not interested in this character.

There were actually rumours (so take with a grain of salt) going around back in 2009 that the reason Mark won over Vic was because Mark's dad is a big name in Taiwanese entertainment, which is why their friendship fell apart. But also, Vic was dealing with mental health issues back then and was considered a shoo-in so I'm not surprised the loss him hard.

I've seen Black & White (drama+movies), Monga, So Young, and Eternal Love. Honestly, the only project his acting impressed me in is Eternal Love.

Tbh I don't believe in fansubbing. I've done it before, and it's a thankless job. It takes forever, you have commenters being generally rude and ungrateful telling you to hurry up, and it's volunteer. I'm sure the production companies can afford hire a professional translator to write the if they really want to reach international audiences.

Tbh my hesitance doesn't really have anything to do with Wu Ping, although it's very refreshing to have a genuinely nice and sweet love interest who gets the girl for once.

I'm planning on watching on to see Zhou Ying's development, but if the romance with Xingyi and his nutjob past isn't handled well and starts overtaking her development, I'm out.

is this xianxia or wuxia
Xianxia doesn't really have anything to do with palace romance, and is also heavily influenced by Taoism. It's traditionally about a protagonist seeking immortality (becoming a xian) and is more fantasy orientated that uses gods/immortals/demons/Chinese mythological creatures and ideas around reincarnation (aka three lives).

The thing is, a lot of popular xianxia dramas/books have romance as the main narrative, so we get a xianxia-flavoured romance, rather than xianxia with romance in it. So xianxia dramas would be like Chinese Paladin, Swords and Legends, Hua Qian Gu, Legend of Zu, Legend of Chusen etc.

I finished this, and I'm not sure how I feel about the ending...
Right :< I wish they had actually met each other at the end at the harbour instead of just randoms.

Anyone want to share initial thoughts? I watched the trailers and Ying Zheng seems like a bit of an unstable asshole...
@blubber Aw, thank you <3 The way PA turned out left me with so much rage I just had to write a review. I just read your summary of the first 6 episodes and...lol, no thanks, the male lead sounds like a nutcase. I'll patiently wait for Liehuo Ruge ;-;

From the trailers, it looks like he treats her with both personalities and goes into fits of rage which seems pretty unstable to me tbh. I'll probably keep an eye on the comments and see, because he doesn't seem like the type of male lead I'd want to watch :/

I'm going to watch this as the episodes air, rather than binge watching it, but if this drama ends as badly…
Dilraba, Zhang Binbin, and Vengo Gao are all part of Yang Mi Studio which is her management company, which is why they're in so many dramas together. Basically, a management company will try to "package" their less popular stars with more popular stars.

If you look at 1st (Lai Yi) and 16th (Liu Ruilin) Disciple from Eternal Love, you'll see that they're both in Yang Mi Studio and have been cast in Liehuo Ruge with Dilraba and Zhang Binbin. Also, Eternal Love and Liehuo Ruge are both Yang Mi studio productions so they have a greater say in casting.

Compare that to LGX and ZLY, both from different companies and PA was produced by neither of their companies, I think.

I skimmed a lot tbh, but you're talking about the scene where He Han runs to Zijun in the rain on the bridge right? Basically, Zijun couldn't get a train ticket back home to Shanghai, so she ends up paying some randoms with a shitty car to drive her back because she needs to pick up her son, but the car breaks in the middle of a storm. I think He Han was so pissed because it was a stupid thing to do and he had warned her about staying safe or something.

So I managed to watch this before all the versions got taken off Youtube, and it was very undeveloped. Pretty graphics and Yang Yang looks very good though, so if you liked the drama and want to give it a try, well, it's only 2 hours of your time.

Title Once upon a Time Spoiler
I watched this in theatres and it was really disappointing tbh. The drama is a lot better imo
The idea I got was that they changed it so Mo Yuan and Ye Hua were actually the same soul rather than twins. So when Mo Yuan "died," his soul reincarnated into Ye Hua, and because Ye Hua "died" at the end, his soul returned into Mo Yuan's body which is why he woke up at the very end.

Off topic but am I the only one who has always wondered why the prince of Liang is on the poster when he only…
Right! I love Xiao Ce to bits, but it would have made more sense to have Yuan Song on the poster. My feeling is that in terms of the story, the major players were Chu Qiao > Yan Xun > Yuwen Yue > Chun'er > Yuan Song > Xiao Yu. It feels like they just included Deng Lun because he's more popular than Niu Junfeng.

What a complete mess that was. The only people who got complete character arcs were Yan Xun, Yuan Song, and Chun'er.…
From my understanding, Legend of Chusen 2 and Glory of Tang Dynasty 2 weren't really sequels. They were filmed at the same time as season 1, but the episodes were just released online after S1 finished airing which is why they're so much shorter.

A true sequel would be like Ode to Joy 2, which did get the full cast back.

Honestly, the romance is a MESS. At first, it was like CQ had a bit of a crush on YWY, but then she went off with YX and everything got soooo ambiguous. It was like CQ wasn't truly /in/ love with YX, but hated YWY, but then she was fine with YWY again, but she admitted that YX had been her entire life for the last few years, but then 2 seconds later actually her true love is the dying YWY.

Even back then, we knew that they didn't finish filming the entire book so I kinda expected an open-ish ending. Kinda of the like ending of the first book in any series, where they've wrapped up one storyline but there's still a lot more to tell.

Like, if this was Hunger Games, it's like ending the movie at the point where they're about the eat the poison berries instead of at the end of book 1 where they're safe for now, but know they'll have to face consequences soon =__=

PA... they pretty much ended it at the climax with no closure for the main characters, but closure for the side characters...
