The lead male is creepy and neurotic. I find it hard to continue because of this character flaw.
Omg haha, that's what I love about him.
There's a short vid of Chen Kun talking about Ning Yi's character here that really helped me understand more, if you don't need subs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLQ3Uq_Yo98
NY: Do you remember how Zhuyin died? NY: How much innocent blood is on Ning Chuan's hands, and you want to protect him? NY: Do you want those innocent lives to be lost meaninglessly? NY: You want to protect him?! FZW: If you really killed Ning Chuan today, aren't you afraid that His Majesty would be displeased with you? NY: Have I ever cared? NY: I never once cared! FZW: I understand the hate you have towards the ex-Crown Prince, and I understand the pain you feel at the loss of the Third Prince, but if you kill Ning Chuan like this, what difference is there between this and when they killed the Third Prince? FZW: Ning Yi, I'm not doing this to save him, I'm doing this to save you! (27.59) NY: When Lao Ma Fu died, didn't you say that you had seen who I am? NY: I will tell you now, I am someone who lives within an abyss. NY: And you? NY: Who do you think you are? NY: You save me? A joke! NY: If you dare to stop me, NY: I'll kill you too.
Damn... Chen Kun's character of Ning Yi is probably one of the only male leads/main characters that is genuinely unsettling because of how unstable he is.
I've translated a minute and a half of a scene I really like from episode 22 that shows how morally grey he is, and the chemistry between Ning Yi and Feng Zhiwei in the comment below.
