Personally, I wasn't too fond of the original drama adaptation as it strayed too far from the original manga, which I loved a lot. I have yet to watch the Taiwanese drama. Hopefully they do a good job with the casting and writing for this Korean remake!

2017 was the year of lawyers/prosecutors, 2018 is definitely the year of robots/cyborgs/androids...

Why do I feel like this is going to end up as the Goblin of 2018 (i.e. exceptionally overrated featuring non-human leads, overhyped enough to snag all the popularity awards)?

Same. It could've been better with a slightly different cast and a few changes in the plot.
It was really enjoyable in the initial episodes and the cinematography/music were spot on throughout, but the same pattern of something terrible happening in a dream, and then the lead characters somehow finding a loophole to stop it just got repetitive to the point where the final episodes felt really rushed. Not to mention that I personally didn't really feel the chemistry with the leads... but props to Woo Tak for being one of the sweetest second leads ever.

A popularity contest of Goblin ft everything else, as expected lmao... hands down the most overrated drama of 2017, shortly followed by SWDBS and WYWS for the hype.

I'm happy for Dong Ha, Midnight Runners and also Tunnel nabbing a win though. Other less-watched dramas like Chicago Typewriter were truly robbed...

I actually share the opinion that SWDBS was very overhyped. I also wasn't fond of the humour and where they chose to put their focus on in some parts either, and the crime plot was very underwhelming (and often badly incorporated), so I'm wondering if I might've dropped it if I hadn't agreed to watch it with my friends. Even though I was willing to let a little bit of the exaggeration slide given that there was the fantasy/supernatural element to the drama, at some point it got too much. But the one thing I can agree on is the main couple having chemistry, so I enjoyed seeing them on screen. The rest of the drama, not so much.

I personally wasn't a fan of the romance in The K2 at all. Yoona's character was far too flat (though that can be blamed on the poor writing of the drama as well, such as the way her anxiety disorder is so badly written out, and it's highly questionable how she somehow manages to do some of the things she does despite supposedly having this disorder, etc. so whilst I'm personally not fond of her acting, the fault isn't all just hers), and it felt like JCW was doing all the work in the romantic scenes, which he is good at doing in his other works, such as in Healer.

Even then they felt very set up (for example the second half of Episode 6 was far too coincidental for it to be believable for me). The appalling logic, plot holes and simply not feeling the chemistry just meant that I struggled to like it. I really wanted to like the drama and I usually am a fan of the protector-protectee trope with couples, but the only reason I finished it was for JCW. I enjoyed his scenes with Song Yoon Ah a lot more.

The romance in Suspicious Partner felt more genuine/realistic and believable with the way it developed and I enjoyed the natural chemistry that fell into place, (same can be said of other couples that I enjoyed seeing, like Bong Soon/Min Hyuk) although again, I'll be honest and say that some of the writing let it down in the middle episodes, but by that time I was willing to let it slide. In The K2, I already felt let down by the plot holes and questionable logic in the initial episodes.

Bong Hee and Ji Wook were such a sweet couple through and through especially after the torture that JCW's K2 and…
Definitely agree with you there on The K2... the romance felt so forced and cringey, and I was more interested in seeing his interactions with Yoo Jin instead, haha. Their dynamic and also the action scenes were far more entertaining to watch.

Definitely agree with #4 and #1 (haven't seen the other dramas). Bong Hee and Ji Wook had such good chemistry (or maybe, after seeing that no cut kiss scene with almost 4 million views, there's something else there too, out of character... or am I imagining it and JCW is just a particularly good kisser, haha) and Bong Soon and Min Hyuk were truly adorable (the only reason I kept watching SWDBS to be honest)
On This Is Not What I Expected Jan 10, 2018
Lives up to the title! I was thoroughly impressed by the visuals throughout, as the colours and cinematography were stunning. The story itself is simple enough on its own but the lead actors really bring out the charm in it. Would definitely recommend as it ticks all boxes for me in terms of enjoyable and realistic characters, entertaining and sweet moments, as well as overall aesthetic appeal.

Chicago Typewriter, Tunnel and Suspicious Partner were my 3 favourites from 2017 (probably in that order, since the writing/pace was a let down for Suspicious Partner despite the acting/chemistry being great). Plan to watch Save Me and Circle at some point too.

Once per poll/category, and you can pick up to three of the options when you vote (it still counts as one overall…
Only once overall, as far as I know. The poll doesn't reset daily or anything, since I've tried to see if I can vote again.

How many times can we vote?
Once per poll/category, and you can pick up to three of the options when you vote (it still counts as one overall vote in that category, even if you select 2 or 3 nominations).

bruh where's suspicious partner in all of the romance categories? ji chang wook and nam ji hyun were fantastic
Agreed! I personally thought the chemistry was great and so was the acting. The plot/writing/pacing would be my only real criticism of the drama... but romance-wise I much preferred it to WYWS (I preferred the second lead there).

Chicago Typewriter, Tunnel and Suspicious Partner. Though for the latter, I admit that I might be biased since I enjoyed it for the acting/actors more than anything else.
Skye-N-Rain Jan 2, 2018
A number of my faves didn't make it for some categories, but I'm rooting for Chicago Typewriter and Tunnel (also Suspicious Partner for Dong Ha). Movie-wise, Fabricated City and Midnight Runners were both equally my favourites. Goblin, WYWS and Strong Woman Do Bong Soon were among the most overrated dramas this year imo. The most enjoyable thing about WYWS was definitely the OST, and I only really continued SWDBS because I liked the main couple.

Person Yoo Seung Ho
Somehow I always had the impression that he was older than he actually is (rather around later twenties/thirty)...
