Why is the rating so low for this amazing show?? Honestly deserves an 8.5-9.0 rating at the very least, it's such a good show. I'm constantly surprised at how well china is able to make relatable, high quality youth/coming of age dramas. With You, My Huckleberry Friends, a love so beautiful, and now Suddenly this summer. all extremely well made shows. don't let the 8.0 rating fool you, this drama is everything :')
Also, if NQ found SS, he could've just made her his little sister b/c they're both orphans. Why make her his maidservant…
Ah, that makes sense then. Thanks for explaining why he made SS into a maid ! I'm hoping I'll warm up to NQ soon, might not help with the next arc when Shan Shan appears and that might cause a rift between him and SS :(
Tbh, idk if I like Ning Que as a character or not and I can't tell if it's because of Arthur Chen's portrayal of the character (or maybe his looks?) or the characterization so far. I have seen overconfident characters been portrayed in an endearing way even when they are slightly arrogant and full of themselves, but NQ straight up feels arrogant with very little quality of a likable character in my book. Also the way he treats SS at times irks me, albeit they do have some very adorable interactions and at the very least their interactions also feel very natural. Honestly, this is probably an unpopular opinion but i'm just curious as to what everyone's opinion on his character so far. I am enjoying this show so far, i just wish i liked the main character a lot more than I am now. Sang Sang on the other hand is such an adorable character and I'm looking forward to the where the story takes her.

It had all the makings to become my addiction: the chosen hero that started from the bottom and slowly became more powerful, the "magical" school trope, some fantasy elements, that tight knit group of friends. I'm not too familiar with the source material so I can't comment on how closely it follows it, but what I can say is the the plot became way too messy. Some plot holes could have been overlooked but when it's paired with bad acting (supporting roles and tbh jelly lin) and draggy plot lines, it really takes away from this drama. Some pluses are the CGI (pretty good for the most part) and Leo Wu + Barron Chen pairing.
I heard that the source material had a harem for Xiao Yan. I really hope he chooses just one (my pick is Xun-er even tho i didn't like jelly lin's acting, I like the character). If there's a S2, i'd still give it a go, and hopefully it'll be much better with a tighter knitted plot ++ bring back Leo Wu and Barron Chen please.
Nothing makes sense in the first episode LOL. Events are just happening for the heck of it but plot wise everything is a mess. But I guess I’m in it for the crazy mess that’s about to unfold

Also the focus of the drama isn't the ending but the journey and the progression of relationships between the characters is what make it so endearing. It's been hard seeing so many pass on this amazing show, but I'm glad you ended up loving it!

This drama is such a guilty pleasure watch because in all honesty.. it's not a really good drama. Poorly shot and edited, that terrible dubbing, annoying af subplots and terrible acting from a lot of ends. But then you get the adorable main leads and I just forgive everything in an instant. I do appreciate the changes that they've made to make the plot better fit for 2018's standards.
