first 2 episodes were pretty weak and poorly written imo. I feel like I'm watching a run of the mill sub-average c-drama rom com. hoping the rest of the drama is better because I'm not really feeling it right now..

Title Shining for One Thing Spoiler
For me, it's far better than rainless love. Even though i like rainless love but not this much. (I can't actually…
Just to add my 2 cents to the stalker statement, it definitely is a very tight line to walk and if not done properly can be extremely creep, however here ZWS did it for a reason. It's not like he's following her just to know what she does at all times, it was to protect her. When you like someone, your gaze and attention naturally finds its way to them and I think qu chu xiao interpreted and depicted ZWS's character really well that you can relate to him while also feeling his immense desire to protect someone important to him.

of course this drama is not perfect but what this does extremely well are portraying some relatable and endearing characters and makes you feel some very strong emotional attachment to the characters and events. It has definitely stirred something in me that I haven't felt from a drama in a long time.

Title Shining for One Thing Spoiler
I cant stop crying.I understand why this drama became so hit in China. I think maizi is one of the best characters…
I absolutely loved Maizi's character as well. I'm really hoping we get to see a better life for him in the movie because he really deserves that much more. His original rogue life was a product of being dealt a bad card in life but his heart remained pure through and through. We all need friends and lover like Maizi and Zhang Wansen— unwaveringly loyal.

Honestly could have cared less about ZY but glad she gave him the hard no time and time again. I'm also glad they cleared up why she was so obsessed with ZY at the beginning bc she thought he saved her so those first few eps was a little more tolerable.

Don't know how to move on.. I've just been listening to the soundtrack on repeat and rewatching clips posted by iQIYI...

Title The Soldiers Spoiler
So sad Bravo didn't win ):
Wasn't really rooting for alpha team bc they had all the advantages since the beginning, esp having a korean leader and getting to go through the show without any language barriers is HUGE. Bravo put up such a good fight though and team Charlie was just amazing. Wished they hadn't been eliminated so early on.

I think she's the one Ming Rui likes from the first version. The long hair girl who liked Ming Rui eventually?
You're right! in the 2019 ver she's the unfriendly girl from ZH in their law class who LZ partnered up with for the first group assignment. The dining out scene happened towards the end of the 2019 ver when she fessed up that she was mean to SHN this whole time was bc she also crushed on him for a long time versus this ver did it at the very beginning and turned her into an annoying and clingy girl. If this version is more faithful to the novel than the 2019 version, then I'd have to say I appreciated how the 2019 version made all the right changes to make the story flow with more logic and believability.

I loved the 2019 ver and went into this one with an open mind since another great adaptation is always a win! However there's a fine line with LZ's unrequited love and it's pretty easy to make her quiet and enduring love for SHN feel stalker-ish and fangirly like every other girl in the drama that's fawning over him. Unfortunately this one really did just that except that LZ's version is quiet and not in his face like all the other girl. They turned LZ's motivations and love into something pretty shallow. The biggest offender tho is Luo Zhi's character.. she's almost unrecognizable. Where is the strong, independent, and witty girl with the occasional unapologetic sharp tongue? We see glimpses of it here in scenes shared between the two versions but that's about it. I also find the 2 leads lacking in chemistry. If anything I see more chemistry between this LZ and ZMR..

I had my reservations after seeing the trailer and it's a shame that everything I've seen so far has been proving it true. This is a VERY hollow adaptation. To me the biggest appeal of the original was how natural and real the characters felt. Even the side characters felt like they continue to exist after falling out of frame. This version merely took the "big" events and slapped it into a 20 min episode devoid of all emotions. Not to mention how the FL overacts and is so unnatural. They even got the essence of CXX and JC's relationship wrong... Even if i were to judge it on its own without any comparison, it would unfortunately still not get good marks.

I was definitely put off from watching this drama for the longest time due to some comments here claiming it was boring etc. But I'm so glad I gave it another chance and judge it for myself because I ended up loving nearly every minute it!

I would say it is definitely not for everyone. If you're looking for something riveting and fun or a fluffy youth drama, skip it. If you're in the mood for something nostalgic and beautifully quiet then I'd say give it a try -- you might end up loving it like I did.

Luo Zhi became one of my favorite FL of all times.

They adapted the whole novel:) Except the extras, which are..well..way to BL for China censorship to ever be filmed:)))
Do you mind linking the trailer to the movie? :)

Title Moment at Eighteen Spoiler
Did those kids seriously beat up AND killed his friend but not get arrested/face any sort of consequences ?! How does that make any sense ?

Ong seungwoo is a newbie actor but it’s doing such a fantastic job with this drama. His awkwardness really fits with the character and his circumstances. So hopefully for the rest of this drama

I think you will probably be fine. Halfway through they start cutting a lot of the competition scenes out anyways so you might not have too hard of a time.
