after episode 40 it is amazing everything prior to that is necessary to build on what comes after but i nearly dropped the show multiple times. i can understand if you do and if you choose to fast forward the greatness after episode 40 may lose its impact but i would not be shocked if you do because i think it is a testament to patience to make it through those 40 without fast forwarding a little

honest opinion: the romance between the two leads is on the back burner for the first 40 episodes because there is so much that must be done before they can even think to consider one another (they have met a handful of times but neither is in love with the other that comes much later and seems abrupt but it is more like a coalescing of events) because 1)she has to deal with a complex family life 2)he must deal with a complex family life 3)there is the business of the man she loves first 4)the business of the woman he loves first and 5)a rebellion and crowning of a new king A LOT OF STUFF TO WADE THROUGH but at episode 40 they finally get married

the level of planning and scheming in the house of gu is the best i have seen so far

biggest flaw of male lead: he is smart but stubborn to a fault and that's what hinders him; he wants to play the game but doesn't want to follow the rules when even the emperor has to follow rules to a certain extent "sigh" perhaps this is where our female lead will come in

alright so one of the interesting aspects of this show is learning more about the differences between western and eastern culture. I am not sure how accurate this show is, but I thought it unique that even if you were from an established family people may not want to marry their daughter to you, even if of lower rank, because of the fact that you might be 'immoral'--in the west, i would say that during these days there could be a saying that morality was for the middle class because the wealthy had to much money to abide by it and the lower classes simply could not afford it--but appearance means a great deal to people i need read more history about this period

i need to stop flooding the comments but allow me one more--this show is a slow burning but the dialogue is so fantastic and it really adds a comedic spin on some of the plights people faced--not in a campy way but more in a tongue in cheek kind of way

'if that young master wants to gather attention i think even the ducal manor cannot match it' episode 11---maybe the first time our FL actually really speaks/talks about male lead thoughtfully

i think this show is really well written and I think Ming'er is like a sponge, learning basically what not to do from the people around her. granted i am only on episode 10. i don't know enough to really assess the male lead in spite of his appearances but the interactions between the sisters is great i really liked momo kong

alalala don't get me started on the king's woman i don't get upset over characters if they are mean or romanticizing unhealthy relationships its not real but i DO get mad when I invest a chunk of time and encounter plot holes and inconsistent writing combined with a poorly written female lead; they couldn't figure out what they wanted her to be, and her logic never made sense :/
