......my head is spinning after 68 episode....the Bai head is working with evil stepmom (Gu) to curry favor with Imperial Consort Liu (the emperor's fave) who up until now has been buddy-buddy with the dowager empress (the emperor's enemy) & now the dowager is raising Consort Liu's child (something that clearly upset Liu but as a viewer makes me wonder if she is raising him to be emperor). The Bai family wants the salt deeds that were left to the Marquis. The evil step mom wants her son to be Marquis. I don't know what Liu wishes at this point.
Meanwhile, the empress regularly entertains the Wang mother, and we know two things from this 1)The Wang family is in decline and has no real power (are they now caught up in a bigger plot and are aware?) 2)the empress dowager made it clear that she believes that Gu Ting Ye is evil and manipulating the emperor FINALLY the emperor listened to the salt report from Prince Huan, his heir, and made it clear that he believes that Gu Ting Ye influences the actions of his son far too much.
SO a BIG CONFRONTATION is brewing. The empress dowager appears very confident she will win. The Wang family is not sure if they will get what they want, but they are at least aware that they are caught up in something big, and the evil MIL seems to think she knows what is going on but I think her over confidence means she hasn't got a clue.
We have not heard from the Sheng family since the fire at their house. And Gu Ting Ye went to visit Yuan Ruo to thank him--and give him some unasked but honest advice regarding the actions of the empress. Gu Ting Ye knows a BIG battle is coming but he appears confident. I think he is waiting to see how the pieces fall. Ming Lan is now utterly focused on her baby, so I don't know if she will be involved in fixing this. She has acknowledged that there is a big mess.
My CONCERN: Gu Ting Ye and Ming Lan are very good at putting out fires, but this is a RAGING FIRE because it involves a conflict within the imperial family, and people who can essentially do what they want. I don't know how this will work in their favor if the emperor appears to be clearly mistrustful of Gu Ting Ye. Maybe he does it to protect Gu Ting Ye who has been very involved, and he understands that he is the biggest weakness in Empress Dowager's attack on him (but also his best strength). I need to knoooooowwwwww!
i read another person posted that they think that the Sheng Family, especially Big Madame, will have to rally around Ming Lan and co to help clear up the enormous problem that Auntie Kang has created--it would vindicate their choices but I still don't know if it would vindicate them of any wrong because 1) Gu chose to ignore the royal edict and 2)this entire episode could have been prevented if Ming Lan had not pushed so hard for justice instead of waiting, as her grandmother warned her after she recovered i.e. i think she said something like 'anyone can die' when Ming Lan wanted her dead, so it isn't a real gain it's more like a loss for everyone involved?
1 year later and I am still not over this drama. This has got to be the longest and most ridiculous merry go round-ish…

i know!! i saw his old concubine and thought 'whaaattt??' i also don't understand how her testimony even matters since she was not a formal wife and has no legal standing//anyone could argue her testimony is not reliable since she has the most to gain from seeing gu ting ye fall--thank you for the compliment on the review i rewrote it a lot because it kept taking up so many pages :)
ALRIGHT I just could not get through noble aspirations 1 because I did not like the character/acting of male lead. Are you all of a mind that it gets better and I dropped a gem? or does it boil down to personal preference? please try to be unbiased!
i can't understand why the dowager empress is pushing so hard to undermine the current emperor: is this merely a clash of 'traditional' vs. 'reformist'? Is she concerned that the current emperor will destroy all the work of her husband i.e. the previous emperor? Is this merely a busy body? Is the the quiet type who suddenly sees an opportunity to exert power when previously she had very little? Help!

i don't know what episode you are on but i think it just has to do with human nature; because of what happened to her aunt her aunt's mother may be acting as a mother;; do you remember when madame kong came to visit she told ming lan that you are wrong because you didn't think about how your choices impact the whole family; in this case ming lan is rationalizing her choices (fililal piety) but at the end of the day her decisions to push this issue has helped create this storm they are in
