Let's just talk about H5 ok because we've already got a lot of conversations through in H4 so I won't discuss…
In H4, the dramatic conflict was that the couple were brothers and that their father would never accept their relationship. It was spectacularly written and acted, full of visual symbolism, and had nearly life & death stakes.
In this, there is nothing but petty squabbling. Even Xing Si and Yong Jie were reduced to a ridiculous fight over TV volume. All the other fights are about someone straightening a tie, speaking to any other human being, doing dishes, just nothing. The writing is so bad it's incomprehensible. And why bother with the time travel? It has no impact on the story. Johnny couldn't even be bothered to google his grandmother.
I ended up watching all the H4 couple's section (that kiss was fantastic), and ff through most of the rest, which was a bore and horribly written.
What do I loathe more than the "push you away for your own good" trope? Having TWO "push you away for your own good" storylines. And isn't it a bit late to introduce the psychic guy?
The author of this story must be a sheltered person who's never had a problem, because all they can come up with is people having really tiny petty arguments that get blown out of proportion and then making up after an episode of passive-aggressive manipulation. How thrilling.
I love Xing Si and Yong Jie, but their big problem was having the TV on too loud? Are you serious with this? There are so many way more substantial issues for them to deal with, like for instance being BROTHERS, but they focus on the "huge" age difference, which is only 10 years for God's sake, and then Xing Si, who didn't even really get mad over Yong Jie's evil 10-year master plan to ensnare him being that upset over someone finally having some time off and watching a game? Wear earplugs!
There are no stakes in this show, because all the conflicts totally lack any interest, importance, or drama, and it ruins the characters. They end up having histrionic explosions over absolutely nothing, making them look like horrible narcissistic brats who deserve to die alone.
And sorry, but Hai Yi could have just declined the date rather than humiliating some poor woman like that, so he's a monster. It's a good thing he has 'dat a$$, so I forgive him.
History 4 was easily watchable if one simply didn't focus on the "problematic" couple, yet most continue doing…
I thought the "problemmatic" couple was what was good in H4 and Li Cheng & Mu Ren were tiresome cartoon characters that were a lot more problemmatic than the other couple, but for some reason very few people can see it.
I've noticed that too, Taiwanese BLs usually hit the right spot like they managed to do that with at least one…
I thought DNA was fantastic, About Youth was great, My Tooth Your Love was mediocre, and Plus & Minus sucked. Just goes to show tastes are different. Although I liked both My Tooth & +/- a lot at first, but both ended poorly.
Don't worry, he'll lead two series coming this year ☺️ Tbh I'm glad he's not the lead in this series, the…
That's actually an excellent point. On the other hand, Perth is such a good actor that he can communicate an enormous amount in a few seconds - a good thing, because that's all he's going ot get in this. They're also wasting Uncle Kit, who could have been a more complex villain. He already is more complex than the writing makes him because the actor inserts whatever depth he can into a cartoonish role. I just wish he'd take a shower or go swimming.

I meant I wished Chopper was the main character. His dynamic with his father is a lot more interesting than anything else going on, plus Chimon is a much better actor than either of the leads, so they could be compelling as a couple.
Fortunately, they'll be starring as a couple in Dangerous Romance this year. It's a high school drama, but I'll take what I can get.
But Unforgotten Night had stoned tigers and bodyguard orgies. This just has the weekly kicking circle for Palm.
Everyone has a better user ID than me - I want one like yours.
UN did sometimes reach "so bad it's good" territory. This series is like a first-rate 30 second episode every week (all they ever give Perth) stapled to a barely watchable mess (I say 'barely watchable' because Pond and Phuwin spend a lot of time in swimwear, and that's watchable).
Silk is really cool and comfortable. That's why people from hot places wear it. You may be thinking of cheap synthetic…
I guess if you put something over them and tuck them in it might be good for warmth. Silk is cool because it's so thin and in loose garments causes air to flow around you.
Are we expected to believe Palm would even consider doing what he considered doing? What was even the point of that? It was totally, absurdly out of character and had no impact on the plot.
Are we expected to believe assassins can STILL just walk into the mansion? What the f@#&ity f#$%?!? And assassins can just walk into Nueng's mother's room? Not one guard?
This is the most shit writing I've ever seen. You can't just totally ignore people's established characters and have things happen that can't possibly happen.
The cringe in that gun to the forehead scene - OMG. That was like that feeling you get when you step on a snail. It's a major miracle that gun didn't go off. You can't just... never mind.
New stupid cliche: Nonconsensual hug followed by slow drift of arm up back of hugger by the huggee - usually with the hand held limply.
Is there any doubt who will kill Nat? It was telegraphed so hard this episode that it was hard not to roll my eyes. So I did. But at least the acting in that scene was awesome.
So now damp towel wipes can cure a coma. What's next? Cancer? Resurrection?
And that bathroom scene. Again, no guards for no apparent reason. Come on. And it looks like next ep Palm goes back into the kicking circle.
Almost this whole episode was Neung and Palm talking about their love. Because there's nothing guys like bettter than to sit around talking about their love.
This sucks. But Perth is so good that 30 seconds of him per ep makes me watch this. WHY oh why is he playing these little bit parts? Is it because he's not tall? I'm betting that's it. He's not tall, and he's dark, so they don't let him be the lead.
Seriously on all the thai bl I've watched, none of them made sense, but weirdly when it's a toxic relationship…
Kinn's father hid his sister, who happened to be Porsche's mother, in the attic for 20 years without anyone noticing. Is it possible to view that as anything but campy soap opera fodder? One of the reasons I didn't love KP was the tonal dissonance - most of it was bonkers, but then you had the very intense Vegas/Pete and Jeff/Barcode which was equally intense but in a totally different way so that if felt like these were two very different stories stapled onto the other one.
I don't remember Kinn and Porsche being toxic together, but then my bar for toxic is higher than most BL audience members - I don't think anything is toxic if both people want it.
I agree, but then again, you and I always agree, right? LOL. As for the Koreans kicking ass with BLs this year,…
Good point. The reason is that the series was mediocre but the film was good (it had a couple of crucial scenes that made the difference between a frustrating bromance and a romance). I shall edit my comment!
That was surprisingly boring for an action thriller. I think the problem is partly the editing, which lets scenes drag on way too long, and that I have no idea what's going on. We needed more context and introduction to the characters to care about them.
If you read the novel, you would understand uae's character better. The gay bar scene wasnt very well potrayed…
BTW, I totally misunderstood the bar scene - for some reason I thought it was a friend of Uea's that came to the table when King was hitting on him, so you're totally right - his behavior makes a lot more sense now.
