I agree on the Ohm/Nanon ratio. In that scene my reaction to the taxi driver was "Who's your eye doctor?"I've…
Jimmy wasn't bad - it's just Nanon was better. Nanon is a good actor and he has really beautiful big expressive eyes, but I kind of think he's otherwise average-looking, whereas Ohm is both cute and hot, with the boyish face & cute voice and the not-boyish-at-all body. But then Nanon is a professional actor and Jimmy is a doctor. Who has a lot of time for sports.
Kinda happy that I am not the only one feeling that way... Everyone praises Sea and Jimmy chemistry but like you…
I think I agree with all that - but with Jimmy, I think he has it in him with the right direction. His anger in Bad Buddy was visceral and totally convincing. It just doesn't feel like the writing is giving anyone anything to really do, and I don't feel like we have a baseline for who these characters are. That's aggravated by switching back and forth between actors. We really needed to get a sense of who Talay is, and all we got of Puen is how other people react to his stardom, not any insight into his character.
I was 100% OK with the product placement this week. Tim isn't really my type, but sometimes you just want a beast like that to manhandle you.
I actually liked Mek's B-day surprise - it was very him, and well-executed.
So here's the thing: the drama between these two does not feel contrived to me - it's character-driven, by which I mean problems organically develop due to the differences between them - Mek worries and so his only thought was that Kim should rest because because he's ill. He's clueless, so he didn't catch that someone might get upset if you have your ex gf over and send him away.
Things like that are contrived when people don't act in character, but do bizarre things that the plot required to generate a conflict. That didn't happen here.
I didn't expect Tim & Mai to be the most compelling couple, but they sure were this week. Boat's acting was good, his bare torso was even better, and that shirt unbuttoning was the steamiest thing that's happened on this series so far - it wasn't that steamy, but it was way more charged than all the sniff-kisses to the cheek, which is all we've really gotten so far from anyone.
Ugh. You all tricked me by saying this was the best episode. It is better than the other episodes, mostly because the actress playing Praew is really good, no matter how disturbting her character, and she was kind enough to strip Nine for us, but this was full of stupid BL cliches, like the bf always showing up at just the moment people are kissing, and that rapey grab-him-from-behind maneuver that BL writers are incapable of living without.
This has been spinning in circles since Ep 1. Has anything actually happened since Ep 1? You can't have the main pair being this loathsome - why would anyone want to watch two horrible and selfish people be together?
Yes, same. There are some very strange scenes and the direction is not the best. I feel the chemistry though but…
And don't forget long discussons about the sugar content of drinks. There's nothing men talk about more with each other than getting fat from drinking small bottles of juice.
There's some chemistry, but not what I'd expect with two guys built like that shirtless in bed - and Sea and Jimmy are quite something even by Thai BL standards. Ohm & Nanon have demonstrated their ability to generate chemistry. Jimmy is capable of great intensity - I thought he was a little terrifying in Bad Buddy - and we'll see about chemistry. Well, I'm certainly not giving up - we'll see next episode.
Hmm. I'm torn. I love the cast, and the premise is fine, but there are a few "items of concern". First, I don't think the director is getting the performances he should be from such a fine cast. I didn't love Bad Buddy as much as most people did, but Ohm, Nanon, & Jimmy were absolutley electric in that big confrontation scene - Jimmy felt like a force. Here he's, well, comparatively underwhelming.
And I'm feeling very little chemistry - it's early yet, but I don't have that strong feeling like I must see them together. Sea & Jimmy shirtless in bed together should make me burst into flame, and while it was aesthetically quite something, I didn't feel anything. The characters aren't well-drawn - that might be part of it. What is Talay's character? Can you put it words?
Also, the story seems a little stuck between being Harry-Potteresque goofy and being a normal drama, and it leads to bizarre scenes that are very WTF. Like where did they get those kites and fish nets? It's hard to believe a park rents out paper kites, so they must have bought them and then thrown them away? It didn't really suit their personalities, either. I had just been thinking "wow, no horrendously intrusive product placment!" and then part 4 happened.
There's a lack of energy to the production that should absolutely not be there with actors like these available, and the editing is not fantastic. I don't hate it, and it obviously has potential, but I'm a tad... not so much disappointed as less excited than I think I should be.
The only way i can explain it is - They already had full month to ogle Ohm body.... Nanon was someone new...
Well, Nanon does have those huge dark eyes, and he gives off an air of intelligence which is attractive. But being tall & muscular with a great wardrobe will almost always win for first impressions.
OK, I realize attraction is a very individual thing, but let's be honest. If you have Ohm and Nanon in a room, 100% of people are not going to rave about how hot Nanon is and ignore Ohm. It's going to be at least 80-20, or being generous 70-30 in Ohm's favor, probably closer to 90-10 for men. Was this originally cast differently? If it were Jimmy and Ohm in a room, maybe I could buy it. Nanon is a cutie, but Ohm is going to stick out more, especially dressed like that.
Also, I didn't notice for some reason until this ep how attractive Sea is - just that smile is enough let alone everything else...
BTW, it was a bit ironic given the story, but Nanon is a considerably better singer than Jimmy - that's not a criticism - you can't cast a whole series based on who's a better singer. I just thought it was funny.
The sarcasm is just eating me alive. I mean Sincere told the village chief that Fah can’t know where Prince…
You're not overthinking it. BL operates from the moral position that a man should not seek sexual pleasure (specifically bottoming) from another man. Instead he's often forced, because forcing sex on someone is not as objectionable as being full-on gay.
Main couples never just meet and fall in love - they're always forced together, be it a principal ordering them to do BL content, or the reliable trip/catch/stare trick. They would never have though about each other that way unless they'd stared creepily into each other's eyes for an implausibly long time. It's always contrived and I think it often makes it harder to invest in the couple. Park and Lee don't have that problem, nor do Tim & Bear.
I think that's also much of thet appeal of 1,000 Stars. Pupha almost immediately fell in love with Tian, who wasn't far behind - they were simply two people who met and fell in love because of who the other person was. If there had been a secondary couple, that would have been a case where we liked the main better. It was even hinted that Phupha is gay - which is more or less a first: a gay seme (!)
That's part of secondary couple syndrome - their romances are generally more organic.

BTW, your sarcasm was better than mine. I laughed hard at your point about malaria.
I am watching My Secret Love. I recognize it's awful, but there's something about it that works for me. Definitely not Earth's acting. But everyone else puts enough effort and charm into it that I enjoy it. And Bew and Daniel (Park and Lee) are just plain good. When enough people put love into a project, it makes a difference - even when the script is as derivative and unimaginative as is achievable.
But Earth - somehow he's able to make every thing he does seem inauthentic - even in the BTS. I think it's just not the right career field for him. He'd excel as a flight attendant or a call-center operator.
Yoon is awful. But Ton is really good, which sort of saves it for me.
That may be true, but I'm too blinded by his hotness to examine the issue. OK, he's not the best actor, but did you see him in Y Destiny? His love scene was so authentic that I had a flashback to that age (which was a while ago). Also, in comparison to everyone else in the series, he's an Oscar-winner.
That's the charm of thai bl. Bad production, acting, a ridiculous plot but it gets heartwarming, draws you in…
Hidden Love and Love Poison were awful, and I loved both. I've watched Love Poison twice. You can feel the love put into those series - and Hidden Love had Peter tied naked and sweaty to a chair for 2 episodes, which trumps Mek's shirtless scene.
Virgo Nakharin is not a very good actor, but you know he's doing his best and he commits and doesn't hold back. Mark showed up for work. That's about all I can say.
