Kinda nice to read someone else voice what I've been thinking for a while about this series. I absolutely enjoy…
It's definitely been entertaining - but when they stray from the character-focus, it's just a ridiculous and badly-thought-out plot. Last ep, the Kim/Chay scene was one of the best-done scenes I've seen in a BL, writing, directing, & acting - but today they lacked any authenticity. Chay is a sensitive guy, and he should have been crushed when Kim responded to what he said with "I'm hungry, let's eat." That took me completely out of the story.
I've said it before - a series can be about the ghost of a werewolf and an alien robot from the future - I don't care. But the characters need to be consistent and act like real people. Chay didn't even have a look of doubt, confusion, or disappointment on his face when he was brutally shot down like that.
There are literally 100 comments below about the rating. Maybe it's rated low because a lot of people think it's not very good.
Enemies to lovers is probably the most successful plot type, because it offers a lot of possibilities for both dramatic and comedic potential. The danger, though, is that most BLs are enemies to lovers, so if you don't offer something different, it's boring. It's an added danger when you cast mostly newbies and somehow make Daniel Cheng look generic (which should be impossible), and then throw them all in identical white shirts - nobody stands out and it takes longer to connect with any of the characters.
For example, most of this episode was expository, with people actually reading fan comments - in fact most of the ep was about people's interest in their own social media. That's not very interesting. Or Lee & his bf talked about when they met - why not show it? Just having charaters talk about the past is bad writing. And why are they hiding their relationship from their friends?
TBH, 7.3 is generous. It's not horrible, but it's as generic as is achievable and lacks any energy - it was a struggle for me to pay attention to it.
I don't get this series - it's kind of random. I think maybe this works better as a novel because the plot doesn't really make sense. Before I was OK with that because they were focusing on character - but in this episode where all we have is plot it all seemed silly to me. I didn't really care about anything that happened in this episode, because none of it was set up - it just... happened. For example, Chay wouldn't just ignore Kim's response to what he said - that made no emotional or character sense. And instead ot all the long action sequences, wouldn't you rather have seen the conversation between Chay & Porsche rather than just having Porsche tell us it happened?
And why is there so much promotional material about Vegas & Pete? This is Ep 10 and nothing at all has happened, unless Pete is a rather extreme sexual masochist, in which case it definitely launched this ep.
Or maybe this needed to be two separate seasons to allow the plot and characters to unfold in a logical way rather than all sorts of random sh$% going on.
Last episode was excellent, but this one was disappointing. Also, fart jokes? Really?
I’m glad I’m not the only one. This entire first episode felt odd. Nine walked in and Daonuea had that shocked…
Also, I'm not sure why they spoiled the only thing that happened in the episode at the very beginning. Probably because they realized how boring it was and if they didn't show Chabub looking hot AF people would give up halfway through. I'll bet the cut version in this case is better.
Yes, definitely. If you're not familiar with Kermit and google image him, you'll think it's an insult instead of a compliment. If you said he looked like Gonzo or Beaker that might not be very positive.
Well, that was the disappointment of the year. Besides the huge amount of unnecessary expostion, it was really dull - I ended up putting it on 1.5x and then 2x to get through it.
I can't believe this was made by the same production as the excellent Special Episode. This was poorly-written, had no energy, and Daonuea is now just a spoiled brat. How many times did he hit his coworker? I almost dropped it when they did the wiping food off the lip thing.
Well, I should know better than to really look forward to something so I have only myself to blame.
Before anyone asks, I watched it on premium iQIYI which worked in the USA.
For me the lazy writing was the breakup. The dating is Gong Li abandoning who he is to do what's expected, which…
The thing is, it was obviously driven my the dad's disapproval, but this was already addressed, and in any case that's the sort of thing you discuss. Sorry, but Ze Shou should never take Li Gong back - his behavior is a betrayal and a huge red flag that he can't be trusted and is going to make bad terrible decisions that ruin lives.
Is this sarcasm? It feels like it, so I'm asking to make sure. It must be, because I've never known you to be…
And even that is a reminder of how bad this director is at endings. But I must say, he's greatly improved at ruining them, because this one is much worse than than Be Loved In House's.
