I want to like this show, but episode 2 took all the issues I had with the 1st and made them worse. The camerawork…
I wasn't bothered by Ep 2, but Ep 3 made me consider dropping this, so I'm guessing you will either commit seppuku or fall into a coma if you watch it.
holy crap ep 3 was slow D: viki desperately needs like speed options to its videos, coz u need to watch this drama…
Whenever Aek utters a phrase, just hit the advance 10 seconds button twice and it has a similar effect, athough it's more effort. It makes him seem more like a normal person talking instead of a broken robot.
IDK, I just like this a lot. It's a calm watch, but I feel that at least in the case of the main leads, there's…
It's also a little creepy to spout poetry at someone you don't know. Agree about the sharp objects. I'm even starting to get over my BL-sharp-object PTSD. Not sure about Mark's acting yet - has he not been called upon to show what he can do, or is it that he is trying to show emotion but failing? In the endless staring, I can feel what Aue is conveying, but Aek just seems to be staring or unsuccessfully assembling words in his head to speak.
Aek & Aue's situation is delicate, but the hostess has decided to sweep away such considerations and just go for naked sexual harassment. If their sexes were reversed, it would be really disturbing, especially since all her commentary has been about his looks.
Not everyone is going to like the pacing of this show, but I really don't find it to be a problem. I wish most…
I would have agreed with all of this until this episode. There's a point where the pacing drains the dramatic tension rather than creates it. Slow pacing can allow a scene to breathe and develop, but there needs to be substance that goes with it. I liked the symbolism of Aek picking up the shards, but then the endless staring obscured the connection between them, which is passion for cooking. That's why a lot of people are finding their connection shallow. I wouldn't say it's bad directing, but whoever is having Mark pause for 15 minutes between each phrase might reconsider that artistic choice.
Aue is a well-drawn character, but is Aek? It's hard to tell because all his screen time is taken up with staring and taking forever to say anything.
To me this is degenerating into style over substance. The style is beautiful, but it's getting stale for me.
Yes, but in my case I’m starting to feel annoyed. Specially when someone talks, they do a pause (usually long)…
I agree. Although I would say "malfunctioning robots". I was annoyed and disappointed with this ep. Nothing even happened. Aek misses his mother. I think we've thoroughy established that already. His roommate like cake and pastry chefs. We knew that too. Gameplay doesn't like studying. Got it. Sigh.
Do agree that the pacing is really slow, but so far it's tolerable. Maybe they could've cut down unnecessary scenes…
That sums it up for me. I think the mutual attraction is undermined by all the staring. The connection is the mutual passion for cooking, which does have depth, but the staring gives it the impression that their appreciation for each other is aesthetic and is part of the style over substance problem this series has in general.
As a petty example, to get the attractive overhead shot of them eating while sitting on the floor, we're to believe that after Aek poured the soup, they paused to clean up that huge mess before eating. On the floor.
Also, Aek was wearing sneakers with no socks in hot and wet weather, which is gross, so that shoe removal scene was revolting as well as unnecessary.
I think we are getting a misdirect here. Auk is probably more in awe of Aek and not in love yet. Aek for his part…
Aue blatantly came onto Aek by making him spoon-feed the soup. I don't know if he's in love with Aek or just the idea of him (and what he can do for Aue), but that's not a misdirect Aek seems to be cautious with his feelings and is holding back, but fascinated by Aue. That's how I read it.
After the previous episodes, I said I was more excited about this than anything else that's aired this year. Unfortunately, not anymore after this ep.
A lot of my interest was drained by the endless staring and eighteen minute pauses between each phrase Aek speaks. The scene where he asks Aue for permission for his friend to photograph cake almost made me give up entirely. Nothing happened this episode - slow burn is fine, but not no burn.
Mark has one expression, placid mild smile. Aue is way more expressive, and imo a much better actor, but even he can't save the staring scenes.
This is turning out to be all style, no substance. I like touches like Aek picking up the shards of Aue's emotional state, but how long did that scene need to be? I'm grateful that Aek is the first person in a BL to ever pick up a shard without cutting himself, but it wasn't worth that interminable scene.
I know that it’s really popular, but isn’t love at first sight kind of lazy to do in a series/movie? Like,…
I think they did themselves a disservice with the immature title, but this is fundamentally about passion for cooking, which both men share, which is a strong bond. There's a lot of symbolism involved - some of it is sledgehammer-subtle like the endless scene of Aek picking up the shards of Aue's platewear (i.e. emotional state).
What do you mean by development? I've noticed that nobody seems to mind when "development" is one boy tripping and the other one catching him and staring at each other - the cooking bond seems a lot more substantial than that to me. I guess people can have strong passions for tripping or strong passions for catching people, but it seems a shallow and tired gimmick.
But on the other hand, the unfortunate tendency in this series for extremely loooonnnggg staring scenes undermines the substance of their attraction and is intensely boring. Except when the camera is on Aue's face, because I can never tire of that.
I know that it’s really popular, but isn’t love at first sight kind of lazy to do in a series/movie? Like,…
I'm not sure what you mean by lazy. (That's not sarcasm or an attack - I'm seriously asking.) They are both most passionate about cooking, and shared passion is a strong bond. I can't speak for all men, but we're generally a lot more shallow about attraction - maybe not for long-term relationships, but a lot, or even most, guys know if they're attracted to someone immediately - if it's not there, it's not going to be. Finding out if they're someone you want to be with long term takes more time.
I think that Swastika symbol is also found in Buddhism but a different meaning. It means the footsteps of Buddha…
It' consciously modelled on the Nazi symbol. The issue is more the eagle, which is not remotely Buddhist, it's pure Nazi - the "O" in boy also mirrors the wreath around the swastika, an finally, it's a British company that's been around for a while, not a Thai company.
I agree with most of your comments, but the portrait painting was more of a misunderstanding than coersion - I'm not sure what the kid was expecting. It was played for humor, but it was a bit of a misfire. The guy pursuing big sis is a joke character, and he always obeys her, so I don't really see it as problemmatic, Plus, she has not once told him to desist. If she does, and he continues, that's harassment.
I don't think the new kid is a love interest - the actor is 14. He's probably going to be a source of misunderstanding, or he is related to King in some unexpected way. He's not a main cast member, and Peat's actor is.
I have to agree with everyone below - I don't understand what the point of Non's character is. It's not much fun to watch him be sad all the time. If you're going to have a love triangle, the loser can't be 100 times more appealing than the 'winner'. Valen is a good guy, but he's too immature to be Kaitoon's bf. But Non - good provider? Check. Sweet and thoughtful? Check. Cute as F? Check. Hides disappointment at being stood up? Check. Hot body? Check.
As for King, what is with the new boy (Ice) all of a sudden? He's not a main character and Peat is, so it doesn't seem likely that will go anywhere, especially since the actor is FOURTEEN. Maybe it's not a love triangle and there's something else to their relationship.
I can forgive Kaitoon for New Year's - when you're totally slammed in a service job, you don't even have time to think of anything else. But the second time, he had an entire day to think about contacting Non, and that's hard for me to get past.
I think this was potentially a great series that's been derailed by its lack of focus and confusing character relationships.
Also, lying on the beach like that would absolutely not be relaxing. You'd have sand getting crammed up your shorts at high velocity by the waves and you'd end up covered with seaweed and dead jellyfish, with sand fleas jumping all over you.
I like this series, and I love the actor playing Kaitoon, and I'm also not one to complain about slow pacing, but geez. The setup for the cake thing took forever! And then the cake fight was so mild. After the second time Valen wiped frosting on Kaitoon, I think it should have been the full cake to the face - that would hav been funny. I guess it would be difficult to do multiple takes in that case.
The love photograph scene felt a little like we were being punished or something. Couldn't they have made it a lot shorter and maybe made it cute, instead of the usual "EW! WE'RE BOTH MEN! attitude that BL just won't drop? Seriously, that scene almost made me drop the series. And of course, it led to screeching fujoshis, which we can never get enough of. /sarcasm
I think this show deserves praise for not caking everyone with white makeup. In fact, Non and Kaitoon both looked like they had on spray-tan. And I think the Valen actor is underrated - I think he's doing a great job of being in love with Kaitoon and too insecure to tell him - and too much of a gentleman to push it - like he did the cake 100% for Kaitoon - he didn't even want to take credit it for it.
Note: For non-Americans that don't know the apocryphal Lincoln quote, he got it kind of wrong, but it was merely incomplete. "You can fool [as in deceive] all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time." Our orange ex-president has proved this true. (Lincoln actually said something different, but never mind.)
Leon just knows how to get on Fiat's nerves and he's so smug about it. "Even if you get 10 Leos to beat me up…
If you've seen Ep 0 it shows pretty much all of the Leo/FIat from TT2, but not Fiat's interaction with other people when Leo's not there.
I guess my feeling is that since they've known each other pretty much their whole lives, Leon's very mild teasing shouldn't get on Fiat's nerves unless he's incredibly fragile, which is by problem with how he's being written in this series. I think he would just strike back - it's not like there's nothing to tease Leon about. Although if anyone hurts my precious Leon's feelings, I'll burn their house down.
that was some straight cut racist slur, I am not being political sensitive but the "dark skin guy" is actually…
Well, as I said, allowances for non-native speakers, although now that you say it, the post makes more sense that way.
I didn't see it when I was watching because King didn't strike me as dark, and I don't see how Mew is dark. He's certainly handsome with strong features, though, and he's not afraid of spray-tan. The only "dark" leading man I can think of is Earth Pirapat, and he's about as dark as I am with a tan, and I'm white. Well, I guess there's Jennie Panhan as a leading woman.
But there is a repeated tendency to cast darker people not so much as villains as thugs and other "lower order" characters - and a related tendency to cake on the white makeup on everyone else. I was actually distrated by the huge white blob over the zit on Ja's neck this episode.
But I agree with you, there's not much of an issue here in this ep.
First - Hero of the week: Anda. Was anyone else shouting "Do it again! Do it again!"
OK. If you want to redeem a character, he should regret his past behavior and atone for it today. Going back every week and making one of his acts of promiscuity a service to mankind isn't a plot, it's tinkering with backstory. And it's in a way that insults our intelligence, because it's already been made clear he was doing it to hurt Leo.
They keep saying things like "let's put the past behind us", but they never do and we wander in circles. How about a plot that moves the story of Leo and Fiat forward? There are so many elements to that story that could have been exploited for excellent drama, but instead we get this unconvincing attempt to paint Fiat as the Mother Theresa of Grindr. Fiat was a great bad-boy character - now he's whiney and useless. When he and Leon were teasing each other, he was actually upset? Is he four? And how is a grown man like Leo totally incapable of controlling himself when faced with transparent-to-the-point -of -LOL-funny goading? Seriously, the only response should have been to laugh. First & Ja deserve better.
Leon and Pob, however, are gold, and I still can't believe the same person is writing for both couples. I love how Pob is making Leon work for it, and how adorably vulnerable Leon is. Smart is a wonderful find - a real natural. And who is that handsome, cute, and sexy all at once? He's definitely leading-man material. James' acting is very strong too. His effort to wipe the smile off his face was very well-done, and his utter stone face when he turned back around made me laugh. These two are 100% carrying the show for me. Well, 98%. 1% Anda and 1% pure Ja hotness.
Aek & Aue's situation is delicate, but the hostess has decided to sweep away such considerations and just go for naked sexual harassment. If their sexes were reversed, it would be really disturbing, especially since all her commentary has been about his looks.

Ugh. I hope next week moves it forward.
