Book is always the weakest link in anything he's in. Force is not exactly a powerhouse of acting, either, but…
No, I didn't miss the point of the show - the fun is supposed to come from the mess, but it doesn't. I clearly said I don't think it should be a comedy, but there's not even any dark humor in it. Even Darth Vader had a sense of humor.

Title Why R U?
But WHY R U thai version didn't involve any magic as well....
It got sidetracked by COVID, but it did at first. Saifah & Zon hated each other, but when Zon's sister wrote them together in her BL, Saifah suddenly liked him and he was in a BL world, with famous couples like Tharn & Type showing up.

When they had their first kiss, it was a magical fairy-tale moment, whereas here everything is just... pedestrian and normal.

Melodrama is campy by definition, and I don't mean it needs to be a comedy, just that there needs to be some humor - even some dark (or even very dark) humor, but it can't even manage that. The end result is that it's a mediocre series that takes itself way too seriously, which compounds its flaws. I was liking Neo's awfulness, but the last scene was just designed to throw in drama and it didn't make sense for the characters, e.g. I don't think Sand would have been upset with Ray - he would have felt for him and wanted to make sure he was OK.

I think so too and in most of the conspiracy theory videos they zoom in on his face, supposedly looking 'sinister'…
Based on his ouvre to date, I think your bad acting theory is a good bet.

Title Only Friends
This series isn't working for me. I think the problem is that all the characters are unpleasant but there's no camp or humor to make it fun - it's just dreary and full of shallow and/or boring people.

It's a great-looking cast, and many of the actors are good, especially Mark, who is the only one who is reaching me (which surprises me because I love Neo), but this is kind of soft-core, in a dreary sort of way.

The last scene of Ep 5 underlined how superficial this is - Boston is just awful for no reason, and it made no sense that Sand was upset with Ray over that - he should have wanted to stand by Ray and make sure he was OK, given what they had just been talking about - that makes Sand, who has been the most sympathetic character in the drama so far, self-absorbed and lacking in empathy.

That wasn't the intention, though, just the consequence of writing a scene that only exists to generate pointless drama.

I hate to say it but book really is the weakest link in this show. He’s wonderbread. I would love for his character…
Book is always the weakest link in anything he's in. Force is not exactly a powerhouse of acting, either, but I don't mind looking at him.

The only actor doing much for me in this series is Mark. Even Neo isn't working for me. I guess Khaotung is kind of sexy.

I really don't care much for this series - all the characters are unpleasant but it lacks campiness and humor to balance it out.

I'm sure it was "I love you." Or maybe "I want to f@#$ you until your a$$%$#& is f@#$ing r@#$Y% to #$%@s. That's what I was thinking. About either or both of them.

The scene with the cafe owner and the girl was a little funny. There's nothing wrong with his looks - but he's not particularly noteworthy standing next to two unusually hot men and it made him look like, well, like I feel whenever I look in a mirror now that I'm not young and pretty anymore.

Title Why R U?
I'm really struggling to get through this. For some reason it just doesn't engage me. There are cute moments, but it just seems all over the place, and again, lots of texting, which is not exactly riveting to watch. Why did they even call it Why R U? It doesn't have any of the fantasy element of the story. I'm on early Ep 5 and I think I'm going to give up for now and try again later.

You're acting like people cant have different personalities. Not everything needs to be rooted in stereotypes,…
Yes, but he's the main character, not a side character. There are established and well-worn cliches in Asian BL dramas, and one is the uke, who is treated as an entirely separate gender. It's not a shitty thing to say, it's just what is. It's unfortunate that an almost universal characteristic of the uke is passivity and lack of agency - in this case extending all the way into answering questions. I don't care if he's meek or not, I care that he behaves like a person and doesn't just remain silent because the plot is looking for a feeble cause of a misunderstanding, another cruch writers seem to lean heavily on.

Maybe there's some subtlety of language comprehension in the story I'm missing, but someone asked him if he understood the northern dialect and he said yes, so if he doesn't understand what people are saying, there's no indicationi.

Did we watch the same series? The leads had good chemistry and the plot touched on important serious topics. I…
I think it might have simply been poor casting decisions. But beyond that, the uke is often saddled with the worst steotypes about women - weak and need a man to protect them. I appeciate your generosity, but we were never shown that level of anxiety about anything other than sex, and incidentally, another uke issue - they hate sex and only do it to reward the seme for protecting and guiding them.

As many are here on MDL this one is rating much lower than it should be...it should be at least an 8.5. I have…
The "real" score is about 8.2 - the only age group that rates it below 8 is 55-64 for some reason.

The childhood connection was one pile-on too many. I laughed out loud.As you have probably noticed, that trope…
Step-siblings probably because it's complicated without being icky like it would be if they're real siblings separated at birth or something. Although there seems to be a broader incest taboo in Asian cultures to include step-siblings, which isn't a think in most of the West. ("Incest is best" isn't an expression for nothing. Or "twincest is best")

The childhood connection might be related to the non-Western conception of the universe in which fate plays a stronger role. We believe everything is controlled by personal agency - they don't. Especially for ukes, who have no agency whatsoever, not even able to tie their own shoes or use a butter knife without injury.

They asked him if he understood the northern dialect and he said "yes". I can understand him having trouble following complex sentences, but "what is your name?" is easy enough. I can imagine he might say "yes" to avoid trouble, but he never says anything like "can you repeast that, please?"

I have to say it's frustrating and tiresome the way Jom just stands and says nothing all the time when people are talking to him, especially when he really needs to say something, like "I apologize".

It's hard to get into such a passive character - I was hoping this was a story about men, not an uke. The acting and production are excellent, though. I love Ming - he makes the show for me.
