Due to their deep-seated Confucian beliefs throughout their history, women were rarely known by their actual names both in public and in private. They were know only by names of the men in their lives (this man's daughter, this man's wife, this man's mother) or by the title of their status or occupation. That still exists today to a certain extent. Also, women were very restricted on when and where they could go places publicly and had to hide their faces when they went out. The individual identity of women was therefore hidden from the world since they were not allowed to be truly seen or spoken about in a way where their unique defining personal attributes could be known.
So when our male lead denies his adopted name and powerful family status and then proceeds to publicly proclaim all his wife's personal attributes that uniquely define her—including a large picture of her face—while only defining himself as her husband, he flipped the traditional Confucian gender roles on their head.

Most Korean shows on Netflix are not owned by Netflix, including When The Phone Rings. They are produced by local Korean TV Channels which only air 2 episodes per week. Netflix just pays to internationally stream the shows. We're lucky they are streaming episodes the same day. Many Japanese and Chinese dramas are not added to Netflix until months after they've aired in their local countries.

According to NCECS: "406 is the telephone area code for the entire state of Montana. It has been Montana’s only area code since 1947. Montana is known as “The Treasure State” because of its valuable minerals and gems, and as “Big Sky Country” because of its vast open spaces."
It's very interesting that Heejoo, who is the person Saeon treasures the most, ends up with the kidnapper's phone and it gives her the big safe space she needs to be able to fully express herself.
"The 555 area code is reserved for fictional numbers and is not used for real phone numbers." In the States, they usually use 555 where here they used 000 in the phone number, which I assume is the Korean equivalent for fake numbers.

It's been translated incorrectly. It should say "first space office drama" because it's an office drama set in space. I guess that means all the other space dramas were action thriller dramas.

Just because Stranger is still my favorite doesn't mean their aren't quality kdramas or more specifically crime/thrillers out there. Also, kdramas often mash multiple genres together. For example, tons of romcoms have a murder mystery side plot (including this year's time travel romcom smash hit, Lovely Runner). By the way, the writer of Stranger also wrote Life, a medical thriller that stars Cho Seung Woo as well alongside Lee Dong Wook, which I enjoyed. Here are a few recommendations:

MDL allows you to make Custom Lists which is simple yet effective. I have lists for completed dramas for the year (like Kdramas Watched in 2024). I don't watch as many Chinese dramas so I just have one list for them (CDramas Watched). I also have a shortlist for dramas that I want to watch soon (Drama Queue) so I don't have to look at my full 200+ drama watchlist to decide what I want to watch next. And you can make other lists for your self too, like Upcoming Shows I Might Watch, Top 25 Kdramas, Spooky Season Queue, etc.
are the substitles going to based off the monday/tuesday schedule or the thursday schedule?
I think the good subs will be available earlier going forward. The first week everyone was just confused on where to even find the video let alone the Eng Subs since they weren't on the usually places.
