People are sleeping on this. Great cinematography, uncliche storyline, great directing, and realistic performance by the female lead. Well, this is centered on the female lead's struggles in life instead of the romance, so maybe that's why.
On a serious note, I'm glad that I was right when I was trying to defend the leads perspectives in regards to the taboo subjects thats has been discussed in the show. Gil Chae has been nothing but persevering and strong, so I see her as a beautiful human being and not a "stained" one as other viewers have mentioned. That's why one of my top scenes of all time will be this beautiful part of episode 17's confession scene:
Gil Chae: Then, how about Gil Chae, who has been defiled by barbarians?
(Jang Hyun's reaction with his facial expressions here is just perfect. He couldn't have conveyed the same feelings with words alone.)
Jang Hyun: I must embrace her. Since she must have suffered.
Me: (Throws pillow. Hugs self with arms full of goosebumps.)
How can any fiction or nonfiction man top that perfect confession right there?
The ending of episode 17 is the most romantic scene I've ever seen. All hope is lost for finding a good man since the standard is Jang Hyun-level now lol.
Who will believe Eita is in his 40s when watching this? His character is such a scene stealer. This definitely cleanses my bad memory of his previous drama lol.
This drama is so intriguing. I love watching the female lead grow along with her business. She became a real business owner when she started humbling herself for the sake of the company. Elaine Zhong definitely showed the character's realistic growth during the scenes where the prideful JH's timidly started collecting money from her father's friends. And in episode 11, you could see how far she has come when she went to the beach with XS to market her company with such confidence and persistence.
I've been curious if there's any logical reasoning behind JH's drastic fashion transformation. I mean there are a lot of options for affordable business casual or fashionable outfits. I wonder why she chooses athletic wear? I mean yes, she's running around everywhere, but she's still a business owner representing her brand.
Yeah, I just miss the powerful and fashionable outfits she had when she was rich.
In Joseon era captain Gu like most men had little consideration for married women who "met other men" by will…
I'm very much aware of that, especially that South Korea is a very traditional/conservative country. I was just saying how the progress made in developed countries when it comes to gender equality is still very lacking given that a man with the same perspective as the male lead is still far and few between.
Why is it so sad that in the 21st century, it is still hard to find an open-minded man like Jang Hyun who sees women as more compared to how a patriarchal society dictates their value? I won't forget how there was no ounce of skepticism when he expressed how he failed to understand how a woman's life could be worthless based on the absence of her "chastity" or "purity."
I really want to know more about his past since his ideals are heavily influenced by his sister and what happened to her.
This is a once in a lifetime experience. Yes, it is an experience as you will feel that you are part of the crazy gang and even root for the ridiculous yet lovable Nakatsu. If only I could repeat those moments.
The first episode is quite good. The quality of the script is high, the dialog makes you think. I can relate to…
Love that it's close to home, that's why friendships, family, and slice-of-life dramas are best left to Japan. They always excel when it comes to those genres. Reminds me of Quartet.
