I was ready to either add this to my dropped list or abuse the fastforward button when I thought this drama was going to be the usual popular Cdrama romcom -- flluffy, cliche, shallow, and worse, mysoginist.
I was so glad to be wrong. This drama was just full of layers, so as the episodes progressed, it kept delving deeper into the different aspects of life. It started out with friendship, then moved to family relationship, and finally, lifetime companionship.
What I appreciated the most in this drama were the scenes where the female lead kept saying that she would protect both herself and the male lead. How often do we see this type of perspective where the younger one, the female one is the person who declares and does the protecting in a relationship? Of course, I wouldn't forget to mention that both ended up protecting each other and their admirable (despite, maybe, unrealistic) relationship.
Can someone reply if it eventually gets better? I stopped halfway through the 1st episode since I didn't find it gripping even though I like the leads.
To be honest, I prefer this drama. I have trouble staying interested in the other one - so cliched and nothing…
Yes, but the biggest problem is there is no plot. I really love the lead actor, and that's the only reason why I watch it (and also I'm on vacation) lol.
I am so confused about you saying that drama being directed by women is why its soft and comforting. It has nothing…
Yes, ability is always part of it, but a female perspective will always be different. I didn't mean it to be derogatory nor discriminating when I mentioned it was soft and comforting. I studied media and journalism actually, so I'm very aware of how few female producers and directors are in the world. And that's the other reason why media is the way it is -- filled with damsel in distress/stupid or femme fatale/sexy female leads.
A good example of how this perspective is so different in this drama from the majority is the female lead is mentally and physically strong. The male lead is the one dependening on her and not the other way around even if he is the rich one.
This drama is so soft and comforting. I bet the director is a woman. (Checks). I was right!
Despite the plot imperfections, this type of drama is so welcomed right now in the slew of other romance dramas airing. It has the slice-of-life feeling, and is definitely less chaotic and grandiose which is the complete opposite of its competitor drama that is garnering much more ratings right now. Yes, I'm sure I'm gonna get hanged by the mob if I name the drama lol.
Sounds about right. I was in Seoul a few days ago, and that's how some of them treated people from other Asian countries -- inferior. If you're from a Western country, though, you'll get the "wow" response lol.
so overrated... sad that romcoms like this get more love than actually great dramas
Been like that for years. Just look at the chart for top dramas here. Mindless trophy dramas always win (especially idol Cdramas). Asian dramas in general, just like everything else, is all about the money of course.
I have to say though, that I'm kinda disappointed with Lee Jun Ho's choice this time. He had been choosing more challenging roles before this drama (Good Manager, The Red Sleeve, Just Between Lovers, Wok of Love, Confession, etc.). It's a bit of a let down, especially this came right after the successful, Red Sleeve. Oh well, it's topping the charts, so maybe that's what everybody who's part of the drama cares about.
Xiao Zhan reminds me of Wallace Huo in The Battle of Changsha in this drana
Yes! I'm not the only one who noticed then. This is my first time seeing Xiao Zhan, and I was reminded of Wallace instantly. You also named one of my favorite dramas, Battle of Changsha.
I don't know about you guys, I liked the couple very much, but watching the male lead working in rocket science…
Take out the games and rocket science scenes, and this would've been one of the best dramas out there lol. The characters are interesting enough that this could've easily been a slice-of-life drama instead where we just watch their daily lives and struggles as a couple. No wonder I kept rewatching their scenes as a couple haha.
