I am glad someone mentioned Maurice. I keep thinking that they could do a modern Chinese adaptation of this drama…
I have never seen him in anything. I need to check him out. Just based on his profile pic... I say yes. I could see him playing George.

I am not sure if I would rather have a really creative and talented Director do it or just a good director that is dedicated to staying as true to the original work as possible. Let's talk about CASTING. Lucy - Janice Wu. George - Knee jerk reaction is Vin Zhang just because I had serious 2nd lead syndrome for him previously. Tbh, I know he could do passionate George and even muddled George, but I don't know if he could be playful approachable George. Needs more thought.

Here is my "favorite Dramas OF ALL TIME (2018)" list:https://kisskh.at/list/01e7Rny3Based on that does someone…
There is a hint of Harry Potter. He was bullied but now that his talents start emerging, his humbleness, loyalty, and wanting to stand up for others is winning him a mini army of friends. There is a hint of Clash of the Titans with the cheesy giant monsters. I haven't watched everything on your list, but of the ones I have watched, nothing is similar.

Title Befriend Spoiler
Does it have a sad ending? (for BL couple I mean) :D
Not stupid at all... just since this is a love triangle with 2 guys and 1 girl, it might be spoiling the mystery a bit. I also ask for spoilers when they are available. I can not take tragic endings. ... one of the reasons I generally stay away from historical dramas, too.

Ah. Do you really want a spoiler on that? I hope it does not deter you from watching ... the guys do not end up together. There is romance but this is more of story about friends and neighbors taking the place of family and helping each other out.

Title Befriend
What is the scene after the credits about? I am guessing the guy that comes in asking for help is a character from another drama? Anyone one know?

I will preface this by saying this show is not depressing at all. It has a very positive view point. ... but if I ever need a good cry, I am going to rewatch this. Even though it is a bit on the corny side, there are some really touching moments that start the tears for me. It is soo sweet.

I just noticed this while rewatching Drinking Solo... Is this drama still happening? Very exciting.

There are a lot of foreign classic novels that I like to see in modern versions of k-drama: Pride & Prejudice…
I am glad someone mentioned Maurice. I keep thinking that they could do a modern Chinese adaptation of this drama pretty easily. Of course, you do not get arrested for hitting on a guy anymore, but ... I think they could still make the story work. I happen to love E.M. Forester. One of my all time favorites is A Room With A View. Again, that could easily be adapted to modern day. My favorite line is “It is fate that I am here,' George persisted, 'but you can call it Italy if it makes you less unhappy.” George is such a great romantic character.

I like this drama but I don’t think it deserves 8,7 .
Different people use different criteria for rating dramas. From me, as long as this drama ends well, it is on track to get between 8-9.
My rating system is a little erratic but generally:
10 is universally loved (by non hater/troll types). Beautiful cinematography. Good chemistry and emotionally attached/connected to characters/story.
9 like 10 but to a less degree.
8-8.5 is just a fun drama with a decent story.
6-7.5 are dramas with something noticeably wrong with them. Slow, bad acting, very bad production quality and or a less than satisfactory ending.
Below 6 are all just varying degrees of disapproval that ranges from Don't bother watching this pointless drama to Horrified that anyone is deranged enough to make such garbage. I am a big believer in dropping dramas that you are not enjoying. Life is too short. As a result, I don't have to give low scores very often.
Really the score doesn't mean anything until after the drama is done airing, anyway. I always reevaluate the drama after I have finished it and give it a final rating then. Something else to be aware of is that some people use the ratings for purposes other than how much they liked it, while it is still airing. I have only recently started using a different method. In the past, I rated airing dramas based on the day of the week they air/post. That allowed me to reorganize my currently watching list in the order they play during the week. I was kind of using it as a tv guide to tell me what I could expect to air that day. Now I use the notes section because I can also list the day of the week it airs/posts, what site I am watching it on, and I can see it when I click on edit without having to leave the page.

I loved this drama so much. I am kind of wondering why there are not foreign remakes or copycats? Not that I think anyone could do better. .. Gong Ho Jin, So Ji Sub, and Seo In Guk all in the same drama plus a good script... just saying. ... Maybe it is just too soon. It seems like longer, but I guess it has only been 5 years since it started airing. Fall weather coming... I think I will have to rewatch this soon.

The only other version of this I have watched is the Korean Boys Over Flowers with Lee Min Ho and Gu Hye Seon. I watched that about 4 years ago. It was my first Lee Min Ho drama and tbh I didn't know what the hype was about when I watched him in it. Of course later, after watching City Hunter and Faith I recognize it wasn't all "hype' ;) I remember the general story line for BOF pretty well, but not enough for me to notice all the differences.
I am pretty impressed with Wang He Di's acting. I am not as pleased with the the Hua Ze Lei character. I think the Kdrama version had better chemistry between the second lead and the leading lady that his version does. ... at least, I remember liking Kim Hyun Joong in that.

Would've ended better if they extended to 18eps instead of cutting it down to 14eps. Sad.
It would have been too weird without Yoon Doo Joon. I think they made the right choice, given the circumstances.
