With a few exceptions, I think most Asian actors look more handsome clean-shaven. Choi Siwon is one of those exceptions as he can grow a nice beard. If a man's beard is patchy and doesn't fill in well, he should go with a bare face. (I'm not biased against them, as I think my own husband looks sexier in a beard.) I think the beards on the two main actors in Mr. Sunshine were ok as well, but I don't think YYS should always wear one. And, as another commenter said, a lot depends on their face shape, jawline, and the style of beard they choose to wear. (And long scraggly beards are always a NO! LOL)
Ok, I know resident Jang has a crush on Jung Won, but I'm totally seeing foreshadowing of her ending up with Ik Jun. The one that seals it for me is in episode 5. She is an eater - she eats the extra breakfast sandwich and the other doctors are in awe. Then later Ik Jun is telling his sister and Jun Wan about why he broke up with the actress and he says "She didn't eat." They are so gonna end up together. Jung Won doesn't even notice her - didn't even think to compliment her when she caught the child abuser dad after he complimented everyone else. She's not on his radar. Anyone else thinking the same as me??
I agree with Cunning Single Lady (the only one of these I've watched). She wasn't the gold-digger they made her out to be. And the reason she chose him to begin with - the fact that he was studying to pass the civil service exam - was because she had watched what her mother had gone through with her father and didn't want to live the life her mother had led. She wanted a husband with a steady income (which a government job guaranteed). That is why she wasn't impressed by her "frenemy" whose husband was in "business". Even though it could have been very lucrative, she felt that it was unstable. Government jobs don't make a fortune - trust me! So, to see her as a gold-digger is ironic. She sacrificed for her husband so he could achieve his dream, even though hers was going up in smoke - that's love folks! The miscarriage was the last straw for her though. CSL was the second drama I ever watched and I still love it - it's very re-watchable and I love both Na Ae Ra AND Cha Jung Woo. Thanks for the article! :)
She wasn't just 'overweight' at the end. She was pregnant - with twins. Although she did use that as an excuse to eat a lot again - LOL! And it wasn't so much that she was overweight that bothered him. Remember - he fell for her even before she lost the weight. He even thought her chubby cheeks were cute (although he missed that dimple! LOL) It was about being healthy. Because he'd been sick all through his childhood, he worried about her health. It was most important to him for her to be healthy. He didn't want to lose anyone he loved to sickness. (Which her being overweight brought on with her thyroid issue.) Just food for thought for you! :)
I totally understand being annoyed at the year-long absence with no contact thing though. That was an issue for me as well, but I loved the show so much otherwise that I excused it.
Well done review! I also agree with literally everything you wrote in the first row paragraphs. We absolutely need an "enjoyment factor" in reviews. I watch many dramas that aren't technically perfect, but I loved them a full 10 regardless of their flaws. Rewatch doesn't always mean anything because I can love a drama to pieces, but certain genres just don't lend themselves well to rewatch (mysteries for example).

Honestly, I probably didn't give it a fair chance. It could have just been the mood I was in at the time. And I think I had a lot of other dramas I was juggling and it just didn't make the cut.

Oy! I totally forgot that I also watched Black. But I agree that Go Ah Ra can be an annoying actress period - I don't think it's just her character in this. LOL!
The only one of these I've seen is OHYA (AMO). While I love the actress and I loved the show, I can see why some people would share your opinion of her character. I wasn't annoyed by her, but I can see it. I guess I just felt like she sort of went off the deep end after her engagement was broken off and she was in some serious self-pity mode for a while. Did she act childish and petty? Oh yes! But I guess I never considered her a "strong female lead" either.

I don't doubt that the writing will be stellar - which was why I was looking so forward to this. I've loved all of the other shows. However, 12 episodes without a proper ending and having to wait over a year for one is not the same as having a proper show and getting a second season with a new story. Does that make sense? If it's a complete story, then my worries will be for naught. However, if they end it mid-story for a year wait on the rest, then I will not be a happy camper.

That is exactly what worries me! They should have done the show all in one shot or had "season 2" start directly after. Part of the appeal of the k-drama format is that the story is told all together, not broken up into "seasons" like Western shows.
They are so gonna end up together.
