The drama is fated to love you, its really good :)
FTLY was my intro to Kdrama and holds a special place today. I've rewatched it many times and it holds up! Yes the main guys laugh is OTT and weird, but after a few episodes it grows on you and you realize that he does it at certain times. It's a fun drama and full of angsty romance!
Part of that is the natural result of novelty wearing off, too. I started watching East Asian Dramas in May 2013.…
Possibly for many viewers, but I don't feel like that was the situation for me. I was juggling 6-8 dramas at a time and enjoying all of them, and then poof! They dried up overnight and I had a hard time focusing on anything new. I suddenly was only able to find maybe one at a time to watch with a little lag time between each, and not for lack of trying. I still want to watch, but the majority of last year's dramas just weren't that interesting. I've added a ton of 2020 shows to my PTW list though. I couldn't even say that about last year.
I thought it was just me! I watched a grand total of like 9 dramas last year. The rest couldn't hold my attention. (although 2020 seems promising....) That is way down from the 30-40 I was watching before. I've been rewatching dramas also - I figured I have enough under my belt now to do that, and still love all my old favorites. So, you may be right - it's not us! It's the dramas!
As usual, loved your article! I'm learning so much. :) And I've been catching more and more of the "boxing" - things I wouldn't have picked up on before. So now there will be another thing to add to my list!
I'm enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would. Anyone else hoping that Bok Soo and Se Ho also make up by the end and become friends again? I just so want to hope that Se Ho is redeemed somehow.
The actors turned in a good performance, and the production was beautiful. But it didn't move me at all - I did not cry, or even tear up once. That's not to say I wasn't entertained, but there was definitely something missing. I don't think that I bought that the two were were passionate enough about each other to do what they did. I think the actors could have pulled it off, but the script failed them. I felt like their ending came less because of their love for one another than for the circumstances they did not want to go home to.

I would love to see more parts to your analysis of dramas.
