Would it be enough to say that the ending involves a reincarnation? There's no clear 'ending' but the main characters do find each other after a long wait.
I'm not sure how to answer this or how much of a spoiler you want. There was a part that was sad, yes, but depending how you take it, it was also an open ending that could be happy.

What should I search for on Reddit - or just the name of the show? I would love to see this stuff!
This is expansive! I actually enjoy the titles that are puzzling, or 'trash', because they encourage me to learn…
I always got pretty bent at Netflix changing the titles from what was familiar also. I thought 'Forest of Secrets' was a great title, while 'Stranger' just seems bland and honestly doesn't really describe the drama as well. And also like you, I honestly don't mind the titles that don't quite make sense to me. I had to work for the cultural knowledge instead of it being watered down and spoon fed to me. If things didn't make sense, I looked it up to see if it was a 'cultural thing'. I learned so much my first year or two of drama watching and I think it made my experience better.
Love this article. One of my biggest translation angst is when the Chinese or Korean characters call others brother…
Netflix is the worst about this. Thankfully on Viki, they use fan subs and I feel like they are generally better translated for meaning. I also like that they leave in "Hyung", "Unni", "Oppa", "Sunbae", etc. Those were some of the first words I learned the meanings of because I heard them over and over. I think NF translators insult the intelligence of the English viewers by assuming that we won't be able to figure these things out. It actually helped my understanding of the culture to look these things up when I was a newbie viewer.
I am loving this so far! Kim Se Jeong is a new face for me, but I think she is flipping adorable, and I hope to see more of her. This is some good old school rom-com stuff. :) I also love the secondary romance just as much as the main one, and that's pretty rare. Crossing my fingers that it holds up through the end!!
THANK YOU. I thought I was the only one that noticed the set change especially in Yushin's house which looked…
Totally agreed. Truly Sung Hoon annoyed the crap out of me in the other seasons, but this actor isn't better imo. Even if he was we haven't even been given a chance to see if he can handle the role. All he's done is cry and look pitiful and spoken about 4 words. LOL!
Add me to the list of those not sure why they are still watching this mess. I call it "The Trainwreck Drama". I am still not jiving with the new actors. The new PSH is blah. He's hardly had any lines in 4 episodes. (btw - yes can we please end this funeral already!!). The new SYS is weak looking compared to the other actor. The first YSY just embodied the role so well. He and AM have had hardly any interaction either. I can't imagine they are even still a couple. It doesn't seem that way at ALL! The new KDM could be ok except for the awful wig and the constant screeching. The old KDM was a little more dignified in her machinations and plotting. But that's not all - no one has mentioned yet that the sets have completely changed. They look cheap in comparison. And they aren't showing much set-wise compared to previous seasons either. Anyone else notice scenes are in weird locations? So far there is no cohesive storyline at all and in 4 episodes really nothing has happened. The characters have the same names but none of the same personalities (in addition to the different faces). I would have sworn it was a new writer or director but they seem to be the same.
Also - what was the whole doctor office/scream thing with SPY? It's almost like a scene was cut out. It was completely out of context and we have no idea what kind of doctor and why she was there. And why SDM was there either!
That was hard because I realized that some of my favorites I still wouldn't cross some genres for. LOL! But there were a few that might not be my top favorites, but that I have still watched outside my preferences for anyway.
You're right. You're really right. If I'm being honest, everything you said was true. I still sort of loved it....even though it was as flawed as you have laid out here. I thought I was going to write a review but after reading this one, I don't think I can. I really thought this drama would break my heart in the end when I first started it. By the end I knew the pacing was way off. I would have liked to have seen the things you mentioned - Ji Ung's relationship with Ung's parents. (or even less of him because he was kind of a crappy friend in the end). A point to NJ. More development of Ung and Yeon Su. Maybe more on Ung's relationship with his parents. The last episode felt very rushed to crank out the happy ending. I was glad that it was happy (even though I wasn't sure if it would be when the drama started). But it was slightly dissatisfying as it ended with many time skips (Pacing issue). Anyway - sorry to ramble. Your review is a fair one!
How I wish this drama could have stuck to the original material more. I understand that things have to be “adapted”…
I just finished the book today and was looking forward to watching this show once I had finished. You took the words out of my mouth - They took the names and place and made a completely different story. Not just changing a few details here and there for adapting, but the story was not the same at all.
I also love the secondary romance just as much as the main one, and that's pretty rare. Crossing my fingers that it holds up through the end!!
