I came away with the same impression : the show would have swept me off of my feet in my teens and early (college freshman year) twenties.
Hidden Love had elements that synced and vibed immensely for me ...
WHY this ping and no ping happens for Asian Drama viewers has been a sustained mystery for me, with some Dramas creating serious polarisations and some a unified wave of glory with just a smattering of disinterested and DROPPER crowds on the edges.
I’m only at ep.4 so i don’t know is it too early to judge but the ML is too emotionless and it is frustrating…
LOL .. Oh Dear .. ML is anything BUT .. ALL HUGE EARS .. African elephant Ears (Indian Elephants have small ears) to hear every single petal she drops .. breath she takes .. He can literally smell her a mile away Ha ha ha .. (carrying the animal metaphor along)
Those eyes of his are literally READING every blink of her eye, twitch of her brow, and quiver of her lips ..

IMO I don't think Lin's character was drawn as a 'flirt' he is SINCERE AND OPEN in his attention and his deep looks are natural and he's not seen aware that he has that look on his face. He's as plain as a spade person (with the most DEVASTATINGLY HANDSOME FACE) and doesn't play games ..
And yet FL didn't pick up on the fact that 'he's into her' BLIMEY .. What a waste of "longing looks" LOL
How protected was her life? Or was she completely Isolated from her peers and friends?? Such that she did not experience flocks of males pursuing her, given HOW good looking AND talented she is. She'd be flooded with all kinds of pursuers .. older and younger and same age too ;-p
Plus, unless she is just 15 / 16 y.o. and barely beginning to get used to adolescents chasing her and confessing to her; it doesn't explain her cluelessness about male interest .. Even if it's about being on alert and alarmed if its an unwanted interest.
She is 21 (I think she is 6 years younger than ML in Drama?) )here and still writer (and director) has portrayed her as a 'naive, innocent, bambini' who is blind to the fact that a guy has the MOST BLATANT hots for her . ROFL.

I am a Wu Lei Shipper till date .. Ever since his STELLAR role in LLTG (my first time watching him).
~ Then, was completely drop jaw with Upcoming Summer ~ Even have Fight Breaks the Sphere (on HOLD now) ~ Nothing But You (on PTW)
So I have high hopes that it's going to be a good ride. Waiting for it to tauten up some 'tension', ease up with some sprinkle of 'wit and levity' scenes.
I am already midway in Ep 2 and the siblings are till now ANGELIC, ideal, flawless, sugar fairies ;-p Lin is anything BUT Ling Buyi LOL. However he's till now the MAIN draw with his mysterious 'push and pull' towards the "kids"
I now know that he is 27 (?) .. and the 'kids' are barely out of OR still in their late teens (?). That would explain some of sibling's 'lack of confidence' / hesitant / 'shy' behaviour .. especially around someone as old as 27. (10 years diff plausible for understanding why they are the way they are in a new (?) city ) and with a much older ge-ge sort of stranger).
On with the show .. I am getting way to analytical too early maybe .. It hasn't gripped me by the collar and dragged me in yet .. slow need not translate into lax .. so fingers crossed.
