I have watched LLTG, TTEOTM, SOKP and LYF. If you loved LLTG, TTEOTM and SOKP, one thing you should probably be…
Aah!
GOT IT.
So glad you mentioned this .. Usually on MDL the way the Cast/Crew is listed (especially in dramas with some romance angle) .. the two who end up together (dead or alive ;-p ) are next to each other .. Unless its an ensemble / many couples etc situation ..
So this MDL entry would have pretty much misled me .. UNLESS the script was developed in a 'giveaway' fashion .. you figure out (from clues / screen time / nature of interaction) who the drama is knitting together ..
The scriptwriters are skilled at building the "winner shipping allegiance" in the plotting :-D That really leaves me in a 'deeply dissatisfied place' especially if the SML or TML comes off steeply complex and FAR more interesting than the 'sweetie goodie' type .. Unless he is matched with a steeply complex, dark, twisty FL (not a shriek role, with a nutty temperament but high intelligence one).
The two times that I was left in the lurch by Drama were:
- Love Alarm (the SML was JUST not STRONG enough to tilt the table and the ML was too powerful in his portrayal) .. havent figured out if it was a script failure or acting / casting failure .. I am tending towards the latter because I could think of Actors who would have pulled it off with aplomb.
- Coffee House (2010) Park Shi Yeon the FL was cast with Kang Ji Hwan as ML .. and I was aligned towards the other FL (not just because of the way the story was unfolding but also, like I said, the listing order of Cast and Crew for the Drama on MDL
- Age of Innocence (2002) I was so smitten with Go Soo that I was on a Go Soo Drama binge .. and just assumed he was the 'winning ML' OBOY .. was I left in the lurch - I HAVE WAS HEARTBROKEN SO SO SO bad!!!! That in my head I wrote my own ending ROFL .. the previous two had left me 'pissed off'
AGE OF INNOCENCE was a BRILLIANT script and show though .. and opens up a space for extended conversations of WHY the FL chose who she chose. Go Soo is deadly deadly talented (as is the other ML in the role he plays) .. and hats off to the scriptwriter for creating that 'splash of sudden freezing water' ending .. which even as it hurts and irritates and angers .. also leaves you with a hot rush when you dry off and wrap up in a towel.
- What Happened in Bali .. that was the BEST is creating DEEP angst at the end .. the painful but successful angst .. and again open for extended conversations of WHY FL said what she said in the end .. where did each of their feelings lie .. or was it all too twisted up and entangled in conflicting emotions. (I watched it in my earliest days of initiation to Kdrama and wasn't aware of MDL. I just looked it up and saw that the Cast and Crew listing had the giveaway order ;-p In a way I am glad I hadn't known it ;-p in this case.
SO final decision to watch or not .. what I will do is test it out for a few eps, If the script and drama and characters are STRONG .. I'll stick it out and see if it's working for me.
Cant thank you enough for getting what I was looking for when I put forward the query.
x0x0 Sorry for the HUGE write in (insert : palm-on-face monkey EMO)
I am not sure which one is SN, I personally didn't finish L&R either. You can't really compare this to TTEOTM though…
LOL .. got it. Thanks ..
Sorry I meant TSL (not SN .. my bad)
I did LAUGH .. watched a few eps .. Have shelved it for a day when I just want to vegetate and think nothing and eat chips :-D
I AM too close to SOKP .. withdrawal symptoms And last night I found JTY (Journey to You) .. I think Zhang LingHe has me "by the throat" - LITERALLY - ROFL
I have had this show for a while on my watch list simply because of all the rave reviews.
HOWEVER may I request a feedback from those who ALSO watched : LLTG / TTEOTM / SOKP How much weight does this lift when compared to the the above 3 which are currently my TOP WUXIA - XANXIA dramas
I'll take a break rather than bring myself down from the HIGH the 3 gave me ;-p
P.S. No LBFAD isn't up my alley the FL doesn't click for me (actress and the role she plays) .. Am a Bai Lu Zhao Lusi fan
splitting facts till the end of the moon has the same music tunes and almost same plot with different stories…
OH DEAR!!!!
For me the two shows are as different as Ice and Lava .. Disclosure : I've watched just the 1 Ep of LAR ... BUT it left me cold and disinterested .. Opposite of how TTEOTM reeled me in with such powerful force of everything that went on to make it an EPIC watch. I just completed my second immersion in the 40 episode rollercoaster ride.
Anyway glad for you and all those who enjoyed it.
It continues to amaze me how Drama bring out such diverse and strongly polar opposite reactions in us :-D
I'm stuck on episode 5 does this drama get better? All reviews are high, but at the moment I can't understand…
ROFL.
Oh Goodness. I was wondering if I should plod on beyond Ep 1 and expect some grand turnaround of the "delicate Candy Floss" FL (the sort which makes me drop dramas wholesale ;-p
Dropped this so many times because of unbearable FL character. But now I took pity on what happened to YBY and…
LOL .. I couldn't get past the first Episode.
I guess some of us get an instant allergic reaction to FL character types like hers .. worsened by the fact that she has the typical C-Drama preferred facial features and 'blank-round eyed-pouty lipped infantile' expression.
Of course beauty and attraction is in the eyes of the viewer :-)
Some of us thrive on sparky / spunky / sparring / tongue-in-cheek STRONG character types eg. the types usually played by Bai Lu / Zhao Lusi / Zhang Zi Yi who can bypass the 'aegyo-act' - maybe it's a directorial choice ..
How does it compare in the feelz as compared to TTEOTM?As intense and complex ML and STRONG FL ?
Thanks!
:-D
Maybe I'll have put on some patience charm on myself and watch past the early FL role-play - at the moment in Ep 1 she (and the drama) is too "pink - cotton candyfloss" whatever that image evokes for someone (round eyes .. round pouty lips .. in a round face, and a forever wide eyes blank expression ~ the standard C-Drama preferred FL look ( insert: monkey with hands on face emo).
A casting choice like that usually makes me drop shows .. Unless the actress works against the "look" and brings on a strong role-play .. think Zhao Lusi in LLTG .. sparky, naughty, so much cogs and gears moving under that face, which is also C-Drama standard features.
Of course that's the beauty of Asian Drama .. it brings on such polar opposite reactions from shows :-D
Have shelved it for now. Tested 2 other shows : - Starry Love (hilarious Xanxia romcom .. with a sparky FL and unpretentious sillyness) - Under the Power (again sparky FL with smarts and fab production design .. not convinced of the ML casting but willing to go a little more into the show hoping he gets his act up to match up to talented FL).
Let's see.
SIGH!! The POWER of EPIC dramas (LLTG / TTEOTM) are difficult to put behind us .. cleanse our palates and move onto another drama that brings on the next BIG dopamine boost ;-p
Did you watch TTEOTM?How does it compare?lemme know .. am thinking of watching this to pull me out of the vortex…
Anyway started it. On Ep 3. I guess this could be labeled Xanxia Romcom - I laughed aloud a lot. Expectation is set at loads of "silly fun" - light watch and time pass. Not intense - angsty - dramatic or epic ;-p
Have put on hold for a day when I am looking for relaxed time pass
GOT IT.

Sorry for the HUGE write in (insert : palm-on-face monkey EMO)
- TTEOTM (Till the End of the Moon)
- LLTG (Love Like the Galaxy)
- L&P (Lighter and Princess)
They all have off the beaten path stories / characters / leads and stellar photography to boot.
Great scripts with super plots and structure.
Thanks ..

WHAT A SUPERB write in!!
I am EXACTLY in the same mode - Ex SOKP withdrawal symptoms
I tuned in to this last night and my pulse is already speeding up in anticipation ;-D
I will return to this post once I am done

So true 🥹
What a polite way to diss the FL .. LOL
These sort of scripted and enacted roles with 'casting' like this puts my teeth on edge and is an inevitable dump at get go.

What is your reason for wanting to quit?

I just tested the first Ep and walked away with that feeling
:-D

I didnt get what you meant ..
Yes I already watched TTEOTM.
TWICE in fact .. finished the 2nd round recently .. and feeling that hollow feeling.
