It's one of the WORST Cdramas I have seen that flaunted two SUPER TALENTED TOP NOTCH actors in a C-Grade script .. and the director and Cameraperson were picked from a reject pile!!
Someone with loads of wad needed to fund these writer - director - producer team ..
Utterly clueless !!
I was weeping tears for the Lead Actors .. someone put a gun to their head??
Lucky me, I got to watch all seasons back to back - one of the benefits of being a janie-come-lately to kdrama…
:-D
Strangely Taelha character didn't strike me as 'evil' just a great 'strategist - politician' with a hunger for power and empire making whose vulnerability was always visible .. the cracking of her heart was SO poignant to watch (Tagon's 'betrayal' of trust and her father's passing) .. And the moments of deep empathy that showed up on her face when Tagon fell into the abyss .. she too resonated with his failure to 'avoid the bloodbath' that set in motion the tragic downfall of an "idol" in the making who dreamt of winning hearts but ultimately failed.
The classic Shakepearean Tragic Hero (in the lines of Macbeth and Hamlet with Taelha as Lady Macbeth)
Why? she is doing a good job, i know she can't compare to Ji Won but she's pretty good.
For me she was LUMINOUS ... and TOTALLY SUITED as the 10 years older version .. Her voice and delivery has been perfected in those years to a level of command that experience would have brought her .. her face GLOWS with radiance (the way she has been captured by camera person and lighting) and she glides with the ease expected of her .. Kim Ji Won was PERFECT in the role of her newness - gawkiness - discovering her power .. her in growth mode .. she's still a (late) teenager in this part as is Eunsom - an innocence still clinging to them as they enter the harsh world of adulthood and Arthdal
why do they change the actor huhu... im comfortable with s1 actor and they already blend in with the character…
Sort of agree with that .. SJK hits it OUT OF THE PARK - but for me personally LJG also delivers though maybe not that effectively .. if SJK for me was 10/10 LJG was a 9.5/10
I loved s1 so much but 2 is just meh, I hate they changed the cast π
I was about to NOT watch it also .. BUT when I read its 10 years later it was easier to pick it up and OBOY Lee Joong Gi DELIVERS a PUNCH!!!
Unlike Ever Night Season 2 cast change - that was terrible and disorienting and made people (and ME) unhappy .. I didn't pick up EVER NIGHT Season 2 until a year later (that too because by then I had watched Dylan Wang do a great role) when the curiosity to check out beyond the cliff hanger was too HIGH.
I've left like a dozen plus comments on this Drama π€£π€£π€£π€£On all it's 4 parts as listed on MDL, separately,…
I loved EMPRESS KI though. Watched all 52 eps of 1 hour each ππ
TWICE.
AND BAWLED MY EYES OUT BOTH TIMES.
Thats a proper saeguk - not fantasy.. But RIVETINGLY plotted with story and absolutely gripping unforgettable characters and super talented array of actors who delivered with punch! πππ

Unfortunately it didn't grip me.
I noticed that a LOT of AC high raters ALSO loved AOS.. It's FL actress doesn't cut it for me (didn't at all in this drama at least) nor could I get behind the the FL role as written (and directed).
I swear I had REALLY wanted to love the drama...
Ironically - the actress in the first scene caught me by the eyeballs..
I also thought the ML was a compelling casting with talent.
How can someone not like this masterpiece but I would have been more happy if it was ended but I know it is that…
I've left like a dozen plus comments on this Drama π€£π€£π€£π€£ On all it's 4 parts as listed on MDL, separately, which on Netflix is clubbed into Season 1 of 18 total episodes and Season 2 of 12 episodes. (I love that Season 2 had these fabulous episode headings π)
The last time I recall getting THIS caught in a drama - CDrama - I couldn't get past for several weeks and move on was LIGHTER AND PRINCESS. I have rewatched that some 4 times (easier to do since the eps are 40 min) vis a vis 18+12 eps of ~ 1.5 hours each
But I could rewatch AC all over AGAIN after a time lapse of a couple of months π
It's only on my 2nd watch that ALL the characters and story came alive in its FULL SPECTACULAR dimension.
BUT yes one would need to be a hard core lover of "historical - political" movements that have defined civilization fitted into a fantasy genre that melds also religious - mythological movements in history plus exploring "heroes / fallen idols"
One would also need to enjoy complex character casts in multiple settings and regions and with various ideological settings and internal conflicts and demons..
ππππππ
That's a LOT. Sustaining interest would require an addict level of interest in such schema.
It's NOT GOT (don't know if you followed that) although roughly belongs in the genre.
GOT "may" have become a classic IMO had it continued in the mold of "deep" exploration as it did in its first 4 or so episodes. Terrible decline to popular "demand" - I suspect - made it drop to "cheap" thrills from Ep 5 - 8.
HOT kisses and good chemistry?
I have commented on that ;-p
Go for it if you still havent

I agree.
It was so geared for cheap thrills and jump scares - nothing for the intellect to chew on except some poor attempt to "allegorize"??
What a waste of an extraordinarily talented star cast π€¦π½ββοΈπ€¦π½ββοΈ

It was a PERFECT ending for me LOL
Any extra episode will DRAG the epic into a mess of slush and lax pulled putty string LOL

I left a comment about the cast change etal above
welcome
I noticed you have Ji Chang Wook listed on your faves ;-D
If you are / were a Wookie 'fan' well you CANNOT MISS this one.
It has one of those EPIC kiss scenes - that goes down in the Kdrama Hall of Kiss FAME
LOL
Don't go looking for it on YouTube .. will SPOILER your enjoyment

I was about to drop that by Ep 6
