Definitely I'm here for Liu Xue Yi. Not a fan of the FL. I dived into this drama to check if it has the same vibe…
Very interesting write up ;-p
It's ironic that those VERY points you bring out so well that the story deals with is exactly why the drama was a 10/10 for me.
I guess I am a sucker for COMPLEX situations - characters - no easy resolutions - and "open ended" explorations of scenarios. I find them more thought churning and feeling swishing ..
I AGREEShe wrote very well but this was a BIG blunder .. I don't know I should thank her or be mad!!It prepared…
I just swung by to check on one of my fave dramas .. I do that .. to connect with fellow watchers who enjoyed it thoroughly.
I looked up your profile page :-)
SJK?? FABULOUS ACTOR.
BUT BUT BUT BUT .. you haven't watched Arthdal Chronicles??!!
IMO (through my lens) it was his BEST EVER performance .. given just how tremendously complex the dramas is.
I've plastered SO MANY comments on the drama (and his role and acting too) on all the 4 parts ..
But yes you would have to be a History nerd, a fantasy genre nerd AND therefore a total Historical Fantasy nut to enjoy this as much as those who did and rated the seasons >9
so many people drop this drama cuz they don't like sad ending π€£This drama is 10/10 for me!
True.
I gave it a 9.5/10 I couldn't root for or get behind SML's role, in the manner it was delivered .. or maybe a more suitable casting was needed for that character.
It was 'annoying' and left me with an itch. If I could be taken on board the SML's character, could have been left with that complex feeling of 'grief - nostalgia - longing' for FL and ML along with the 'comfort and solace' of SML (had I been charmed by him too).
The best way I can describe it is by comparing it to all those dramas when our heart is shattered by the SML not getting the FL although we are still in love and happy that the ML and FL get a H.E.
:-D
The immediate example that pops up is from Kdrama ~ Kim Woo Bin's character in HEIRS - my eyes pricked and throat was constricted ~ Ryu Jun Jun Yeol's character in REPLY 1988 (I could feel the STAB he felt - and the longing and loss in his eyes ALMOST until the end of the drama) ~ Liu Xue Yi in WHAT IF (wah!!! That stab in the heart did come .. and lifted the DRAMA to a 10/10 for me)
When actors - directors - writers PULL it off with aplomb .. that touch of "citrus-bitters" the 'enjoyment' of a delicious cocktail is lifted to a PERFECT 10 - mic drop moment
It's one of the WORST Cdramas I have seen that flaunted two SUPER TALENTED TOP NOTCH actors in a C-Grade script .. and the director and Cameraperson were picked from a reject pile!!
Someone with loads of wad needed to fund these writer - director - producer team ..
Utterly clueless !!
I was weeping tears for the Lead Actors .. someone put a gun to their head??
Lucky me, I got to watch all seasons back to back - one of the benefits of being a janie-come-lately to kdrama…
:-D
Strangely Taelha character didn't strike me as 'evil' just a great 'strategist - politician' with a hunger for power and empire making whose vulnerability was always visible .. the cracking of her heart was SO poignant to watch (Tagon's 'betrayal' of trust and her father's passing) .. And the moments of deep empathy that showed up on her face when Tagon fell into the abyss .. she too resonated with his failure to 'avoid the bloodbath' that set in motion the tragic downfall of an "idol" in the making who dreamt of winning hearts but ultimately failed.
The classic Shakepearean Tragic Hero (in the lines of Macbeth and Hamlet with Taelha as Lady Macbeth)
Why? she is doing a good job, i know she can't compare to Ji Won but she's pretty good.
For me she was LUMINOUS ... and TOTALLY SUITED as the 10 years older version .. Her voice and delivery has been perfected in those years to a level of command that experience would have brought her .. her face GLOWS with radiance (the way she has been captured by camera person and lighting) and she glides with the ease expected of her .. Kim Ji Won was PERFECT in the role of her newness - gawkiness - discovering her power .. her in growth mode .. she's still a (late) teenager in this part as is Eunsom - an innocence still clinging to them as they enter the harsh world of adulthood and Arthdal
why do they change the actor huhu... im comfortable with s1 actor and they already blend in with the character…
Sort of agree with that .. SJK hits it OUT OF THE PARK - but for me personally LJG also delivers though maybe not that effectively .. if SJK for me was 10/10 LJG was a 9.5/10
I loved s1 so much but 2 is just meh, I hate they changed the cast π
I was about to NOT watch it also .. BUT when I read its 10 years later it was easier to pick it up and OBOY Lee Joong Gi DELIVERS a PUNCH!!!
Unlike Ever Night Season 2 cast change - that was terrible and disorienting and made people (and ME) unhappy .. I didn't pick up EVER NIGHT Season 2 until a year later (that too because by then I had watched Dylan Wang do a great role) when the curiosity to check out beyond the cliff hanger was too HIGH.

I loved AC so much that I never miss a chance to promote it
ROFL
Hope it's something you enjoy too :-D

I think you will like it if Timmy Xu was a big draw here for you
I know what you mean.
I cant go back to it even now - such is the bruise left by it
I gave it a 9.5/10

HOT kisses and good chemistry?
I have commented on that ;-p
Go for it if you still havent

π―π―π―π―π―
I agree.
It was so geared for cheap thrills and jump scares - nothing for the intellect to chew on except some poor attempt to "allegorize"??
What a waste of an extraordinarily talented star cast π€¦π½ββοΈπ€¦π½ββοΈ

It was a PERFECT ending for me LOL
Any extra episode will DRAG the epic into a mess of slush and lax pulled putty string LOL

I left a comment about the cast change etal above
