I am a Johnny come lately to the show .. Gobsmacked that something this beautiful and complex existed on Kdrama and I'd missed it all these years.
Yes it can ONLY be enjoyed by those who love world building dramas which is based on the historic arc of Human kind and Civilisation in general ..
Using a fictitious world to examine and think about the BIG questions of Life and what it has meant to be human as we moved up the ladder of cognitive evolution.
Is there a strong (medium) romance woven into the main plot - without which the drama won't work?? HAS it as part of the structure even though it cant be called a strict romance drama .. Since It's not in the tag .. I ask.
Often dramas don't tag romance BUT during watch I find that it's a story engine also ..
just want to set my expectations correctly- is this a slow burn where the romance is second seat a lot of business…
Umm, you could say that .. But their relationship is an intrinsic part of the drama .. you can't scalpel it away and still get the same drama .. it will fall apart .. it's as much the sinews of the drama as the business - both aspects grow together .. and face challenges ..
Both the characters have an arc that cannot be removed from their work nor their relationship.
So I wouldn't say this drama is romance focused .. but without it the the tent won't hold.
I can't recall which episode .. because it creeps up on them bit by bit. But probably midway (which is the Drama standard in most cases).
Lastly IMO this drama will be enjoyed by those who get gripped by the 'business' side of the story too .. if that is feeling like a 'bore' then this drama will not work for them.
If you watched L&P you may get the drift (although L&P is slightly stronger focused on the relationship aspect .. just slightly) - many people were annoyed with the drama because they wanted to watch 'romancing' .. It's also a drama where you have to feel involved in the 'business' aspect ..

Skip it if you plan to watch for 'romance' .. Watch it if you are looking for character growth, business growth and failure, relationship 'growth' and change.
The MDL brief doesn't quite do the job .. little misleading .. A 9.5/10 for me
0.5 deducted for extra long .. could have been 2-3 eps shorter. Lots of repeats that made the drama droop a lot.
BUT still .. such a great brain workout watching these characters. SUPERB actors ALL ..
My first taste of a unique Kdrama .. couldnt believe that the writer - director and production company all agreed to take a risk making it .. SATISFYING ending .. I almost dreaded them screwing it up with a banal moralising

Suspend ALL conventional expectations - just observe the actions and words and the juxtaposition of scenes as drama builds the characters.
It's reflective and slow paced - no easy sitting back to have the drama flow over you - you'll enjoy the "thinking and analyzing"
You may or may not have a stomach for such a brave off beat Drama.
I was quite amazed to find such a bunch of admirers on this forum though, when I expected an all out cuss and diss parade.
