So weird - everyone in the comments section raved and raved and said some superlative stuff - but yet NO ONE rated it >9
Or else how do you explain the 7.9 ππππ
Personally for me it was such a downer after the first half... The charaxters like this completely annoy the beech out of me.
Zero agency or smarts.. Whining clinging self pitying was at such a ridiculous level for both the couples...
Just made me ill watching it.. The grandfather youth romance was the best part and I felt so bad for the boy who went to jail - the FL came across as the Shallowest person ever..
Christina Mok irritated me in her role.. Her "come and save me but I have such pride" play was giving me the itch to do something "baaaad".
And ML too was absolutely unconvincing in how and why he would like such an insipid girl.
Was an absolutely compelling watch .. SUPERB script direction - acting - OST and character building THROUGHOUT ..
EXCEPT the end .. It suddenly began to teeteron the edge of a "makjang" .. A truck sized "MELO" began to hurtle through the drama (OUCH and you pray that it doesn't squish the lovely drama out suddenly).
Then came basket after basket of pretty ribbons, bows, and whistles, which began to smother the story (which by now was moving at break neck speeding towards the end almost leaving behind all the hard work that went into 'designing' the great characters)
A Delicious Dish was put together but it's like an 'outsider' came in and overdosed the end eps with ladles of SUGAR and creme covering up all the details and beauty of a structure that was FANTASTIC if it was left as is..
The best phrase that comes to mind is "GILDING" the LILY I wished I had quit at 35 or 36 ..
When Just a dash of "liqueur sweetness" and a citrus twirl was ALL drama needed .. Not this in-your-face, BOLD LETTERED, font size 100, HAPPY ENDING .. YAY!!
An understated, stylish H.E. would have had finesse and sufficed .. would have been so much more suited to the general 'feel' the drama went for.
SIGH!!
JUST MY OPINION .. the dessert treat in the end (the H.E. in other words) is a personal choice of course .. some are satiated with an espresso, some with a sweet liqueur, some prefer a LARGE LUSH helping to get the feels properly of a good dinner,
So while I was going with 10/10 almost into the Mid 30's episodes .. I ended with a 8.5 /10 .. JUST because of the memories of the first 30 episodes that I could still 'feel'
Whatever the reason .. the 8.3 / 10 MDL rating feels pretty apt IMO ;-p
I LOVE it when dramas that are slice of Life or has particular "business" setting then weaves a "permeating and important" romance in its midst without it being front and center.
I too always enquire : if there is romance ;-p A drama which has a significant or important romance - relationship angle. Not just as an add-on cream fluff dusting which is of little impact on the script...
Some terrific examples for me are : : Prison Playbook : Reply 1988 : Flower of Evil : When Life Gives you Tangerines : Branding in Seongsu
And in CDrama : : Northward : Rising with the Wind : Dream of Splendor
Many viewers get upset if dramas have romance... While some get upset if THE ENTIRE drama is not a romance ππ
I personally would have loved to see this cast with some entanglements ;-p
I think it's too early to tell. So far I'd say it's less a part of the plot than Dr. Romantic, but I can't speak…
Agree.

Just couldn't cheer for or get behind any of the characters; dreadfully spineless and boring.
I guess I like my characters to have spunk, smarts, agency and not whiny naggy helpless wimps
Effing botched up indeed.
Plus I was absolutely irritated by the spineless girl..
And the ML spineless for actually pursuing this gal.
The other Couple's ML is also such a clinger...couldn't get behind his whininess...nor get behind that FL's STUPID choices...
Total ditsy she ended up being!!
After a superb beginning the characters and plot became such a drag!!!
The Ex-BF was the ONLY sexy guy and oh! did I wish for him to get a spunky gal..ans not this limp wimp.

10/10 Taiwanese Drama.
They really push boundaries of drama exploration.
