If you read my excitedly SCREAMING, DELIGHTEDLY HAPPY comment from some 20 days ago, about this drama, that FINALLY there was a GREAT modern CDRAMA .. which was SO edgy that I was stressed throughout wondering what next .. so stylish and beautifully done .. I even have the director on a PEDESTAL since he pulled off the EPIC Three Body Problam Drama (which beat the ass of the Netflix shallow production of same). I was SO certain that he would make it SHINE.
But even as it got brilliant somewhere around 17 I started to get awful nervous that this might plummet ..
So 18 onwards when it started to slide .. My stress was rising .. I HAD PUT SO MUCH hope in this production .. BUT NYAH!!!
It killed me .. I wish I had rather not watched it .. It's left such a BAD taste in my mouth ... someone described the ecperience aptly .. you were SO SO HUNGRY (for a GREAT DRAMA) that you began slurping it up .. BUT after it was OVER .. you were not only still left hungry BUT with a horried aftertaste in the mouth and a sick feeling in the stomach.
Anyway in a way it's made me WRITE SO MUCH after a LONG TIME.

Yes yes opposites do attract .. but IMO succeeds only when a few traits are that way .. a match of FUNDAMENTALS is essential for the stable long term relationship that stays strong ..

~ with a woman who has such a 'misguided belief' in the 'righteousness' of her "TESTING" actions .. I mean she isn't a teen or a young adult .. She is a MATURE ADULT with enough exposure to literature, reading and thinking to NOT know that IT IS WRONG!! What she is doing is IMMORAL .. to imagine that it is some kind of 'social service' for women is full on delulu!!
In fact his first BLURTING out of what he thought of such a woman was HIS TRUE thoughts on such behaviour and mindset.
Any SANE human would be SHOCKED that an ADULT MATURE working woman didn't pause to consider what was SHE DOING!!! It was ALMOST a game to her .. Guan pins her down to it also .. and she even TAKES on another 'assignment' WHILE she is still with him, AFTER telling him that it was ALL behind her .. SHE basically betrayed him by breaking her promise .. Which DELUDED human makes the excuse that because someone is on her death bed they have agreed to do a favour and ACT to make their partner swerve and 'fall'. If the DRAMA wrote that as part of portraying Xi's character flaw and misjudgement, then it should logically leads to Bei breaking it off .. YESSS that would be a plausible ending to that thread. Each could have emerged 'wiser' .. Xi growing up even if heartbroken at the loss, and Bei realizing that he was blinded by her coming at HIM FULL FORCE during a time when he had JUST been rebuffed for good .. He was in REBOUND MODE .. he would have learnt that it was a REBOUND relationship for him. That would have made sense.
~ next point, Bei cannot be OK with a woman who doesn't up front own up to the 'shady stuff she was up to' right at get go .. and expects that a "clean, straight-laced, homey guy" would be OK with this deception .. OF COURSE she KNOWS what she did was WRONG and is therefore petrified being found out. Some people say he was not talking about his ex .. YEAH SO??? It takes time to bring those things up, he doesn't have GUILT about a failed relationship. For him it's still too raw, and he had JUST had that encounter which sends him off to the bar (it was that emotionally traumatic for him) .. A serious relationship that moves towards marriage will always ultimately get to talking about previous entanglements that ended badly .. Bei WAS NOT written as smeone who isnt WISE enough to know that .. During dating phase .. BEFORE marriage talks .. They had JUST begun seeing each other.
BUT MOST IMP DISTINCTION between the 2 concealments : for Bei it was a serious and real relationship that FAILED; in NO way does it compare to the STUFF she was up to .. BREAKING up couples!! THAT was IMMORAL!! Spoke of a weak character, lack of wisdom and a moral compass. HOW are they EVEN on the same level ..
~ Third point, SHE BROKE UP the relationship of his childhood best friend!!! A bestie who he discovers is still in love with her, THAT she is STILL seeing him behind his back .. REALLY!! That's an honest bestie relationship?? S he ASKED Gong to CONCEAL that .. and was Bei written as a character who would be OK with it?? What is he Bodhisattva?? An upright straight thinking guy who likes it clean WOULD IN NO way 'forget or forgive' such blatant concealment .. LIKE he would JUSTtake her words for it???
IMPLAUSIBLE Character Writing .. LAZY script!!
FAILED destroyed REALTIONSHIPS would have been the ONLY plausible REAL LIFE way this could have ended .. FORCING a CARTOON ENDING with ALL behaving like Buddhas with NO attachment anxieties and was just a terrible JOKE on the viewer AFTER setting up such a REAL scenario until Ep 17

I wish the Drama hadn't LOST it's bearing so badly and end up forcing the plot ad characters out of shape and plausibility after carefully setting them up and filling them out ~ a lovely set of vignettes TURNED into unbelievable cartoons ..
It made me wonder .. when did the writers decide it had to swerve to 'rom-com' silly comedic mode??!! That required a forced set of HEs for couples
