Did the crowned prince just finally figured out her real identity in ep53?? DAMN!! I always thought he knew and…
LOL .. OK lemme try again ..
~ CP never saw Wenxi's face - she was ALWAYS veiled and behind a screen.
~ His conversations with her were SO BRIEF .. and so much time elapsed between that event and his realising that he has to "sacrifice his love" and settle for Nianzhi.
~ PLUS why in his wildest dreams would he imagine, or THINK that Lu Guniya, this beautiful woman of a noble family (who has supposedly returned to Changzou with the Li Ming family - Gu Fengen EVEN came to see her carriage pass by (so that he can report back to CP). She lifted the carriage curtain to let GF see her and her bro Wenjin.
Because she had already planned that she will escape and return to the palace when the carriage stops for a break, and that CP and GF or any palace guard MUST be made to believe she has left the capital).
The CP is surrounded by ALL gender attendants .. and he's all caught up with the exigencies that have erupted for him .. it is absolutely IMPLAUSIBLE that his mind will work that out.
The BEAUTY of the script and director's / actor's making of that scene is to CREATE that TENSE pause ... that eye lock .. that nervous dropping of scissors ... Somewhere, subliminally the CP briefly feels some frisson .. BUT that's it.
The dropping of the scissors and nervousness is seen by all as a 'new maid's' mistake, in the GRAND presence of the Crown Prince - she has after all been delegated as the Crown Princess's attendant (by chief Staff of Jiang Nerian).
CP staff cuts Nianzhi locks and Nianzhi Staff cuts CP locks. Protocol of imperial wedding to induct Queen.
For this 'mistake' Jiang even scolds and punishes Wenxi making her stand outside with a shadow view of their wedding night.
I think partly the reason why it's easier to imagine that "he knew"; is because in 'regular, fun, casual' period C-Dramas , the script and direction are .. Tropes galore, predictable, and easygoing!!
This is realistic and incredibly accurate in its recreating the Song Dynasty mores of a highly rule bound hierarchical set-up.
The writer is TOP NOTCH and her work is highly researched and intricately crafted - she wrote the original novel as well as did the scripting :-D
I was curious to know what impact it had in the AWARD and critical acclaim circuit : and that's when I looked…
TRUE .. I realize that so much stuff is avalaible probably on Chinese Internet and discussed in mandarin .. we only get to see and discuss whatever is discussed in the english speaking world
I bet those are some deep discussions too .. of course from a serious cohort ..
I watched RN twice a long time ago. We definitely must watch the 12 eps (special) after the 60 eps tho; otherwise,…
Oh BTW .. I left a trail of comments today .. i was so bubbling over after almost a week of binge watching (second run) of ALL 60+12 eps
During my first watch 6 months ago I hadn't watched the 12 eps back to back with the 60 (had a gap longer than a month maybe) for some reason I thought they were just some BTS kind of stuff untill I read comments and knew I HAD to watch it.
So this back to back rewatch from Ep 1 - Ep 72 was a MINDBLOWING experience
:-D
You might need to put a spoiler tag on this.
So which Drama is this you are talking about?
The Red Sleeve? Or Ming Dynasty?
Where did you get that impression!!!
ROFL
Honestly .. the DRAMA wouldn't EVEN work without its INTENSE romance thread .. The whole drama would fall apart
Ha ha ha ha
It's this MAGNIFICENT weaving of palace politics and personal feelings and private life that's the backbone of the Drama.
DEEP romance with some of the HOTTEST kisses and Romantic Scenes

I hope I didnt bore you to death Ha ha ha
RN had me hooked within 2 minutes of it rolling out
LOL
the OST - the CAMERA work - the scene .. THE CREDIT ROLL
Everything was spot on
Needs mental gymnastics all throughout - without missing a single word - glance or movement LOL
Each of the above is full of meaning
thanks for reading :-p
Oh Yeah I have it already on my list .. ALL 3 versions
The MING DYNASTY 1566 has the highest rating (has the RN Emperor actor in it as an ML)
Which year are you referring to?
Both are great actors .. and just need to choose the right drama Team
Just curious how you came by this drama and considered checking it out.
😃
I thought I’ll look at the drama genre - style you usually watch to see if this would grab you .
I didn’t see much C-Drama and no Period CDrama either.
That’s why I was curious as to how you came by this recco 😇
Thank You ..
I'll be posting on the discussion board above .. and ping you again
