OMG watching ML after such a long time it just struck me what a superlative 5🌟🥇actor he is.

I totally fell for his role play in :
~ Mr Sunshine
~ Dr Romantic season 1 (and his part role in Season 3)
~ Warm and Cosy

Even in the not so great Drama (the FL role didn't work for me) Interest of Love it's his acting that made me watch the drama.

This one (whatever it's merit - hope to comment when I gave watched the full drama) too brought it all back and I feel like revisiting Dr Romantic / Warm and Cosy

Just recently I'd watched a few eps of BLOSSOM - and a similar dilemma is faced by the ML involving the FL.

I saw his "respect" and admiration for her abilities; where it looked like disrespect to you 🫠🫠

The reason she finally accepts him is because of that - him keeping his distance..and respecting her autonomy.
The misunderstanding came from circumstances : as misreading of intentions and compulsions.

They get back once that clears up and they can rise above that; recognize their underlying "caring" and
"respect".

Isn't it interesting how the exact same thing can fall so differently on different people..

I guessed correctly that it would match your expectations of ML - FL dynamics.

For me RWTW was a masterpiece.... Rarely are FL roles written so strong or MLs who aren't written as "saviours"

I LOVED it again BECAUSE the romance was SO diverse .. diffused .. complicated .. non linear .. PLUS so many non-romantic drivers of the story that held my attention deeply .. including so many non-OTP roles which I was invested in actively ..
I loved that the FL had conflicting emotions .. that WXY was such a SOLID character ) I felt so sorry for him even as I rooted for the hard-hearted ZLH ..

Why I like ZLH more (most in this drama amongst all his dramas) is because he is complex .. hard .. unable to express his inner feelings and when he did it came out ALL wrong .. he even played her and distrusted her .. doubt plagued him .. besides jealousy .. I enjoyed him as the imperfect flawed person trying to pursue his romantic interest in a most unappealing way .. BUT HE STILL GAVE us the FEELZ when he did some of the CRAZY things for her.

Like Li Xun .. he is not articulate in romance and he doesn't change overnight .. their core character stays .. hard and unyielding .. just a bit softened around the edges ONLY for the one they have hearts in their eyes and sleeves for.

This ML type appeals to me a LOT.

I know you have a different take on TPR.
Absolutely understand why it may have appealed .. It's a very high ratings grosser .. so says a lot about how right the drama was in making it work so well for so many.

About Romance in dramas : I think that too depends on what is our personal feel about what constitutes romance in a drama ...

Is it full blown visible like in CLOY - ASOL - Hidden Love - Love is Sweet - Secret Hotel?
With lots of actual OTP romantic interactions and the main vehicle of the story and plot.

Or is it more subtly woven into the plot?
Which has many different moving parts and motives, of the support characters .. not just the OTP .. but the equally strong ensemble cast ..
However in these IF YOU REMOVE the romance relation .. the story won't work .. like a wheel is removed .. the drama will not move .. because the ROMANCE IS one of the drivers of the plot .. an engine of growth and change and action.

I'll give an example .. I don't know if you have watched PRISON PLAYBOOK .. the MDL brief says it has no romance .. and MOST will say it is not a "romance story" - correct ..
BUT - IMO without the ML's romantic life and interest he wouldn't grow .. the story will lose its fire and heat and momentum .. The glow and sheen of the drama would be DULL ..

SO you are right SCENT of TIME doesn't have that sort of OVERT OTP romancing interactions ..
But what IMO, it has is DEEP yearning .. mind-blowing devotion to the extent of loosing sanity .. all the POWER and movement and growth is driven by single minded pursuit of "love" by all the Main Characters .. or by AVOIDANCE of romantic entanglement .. The whole gamut of jealousy, longing, manipulating ..

I have watched it thrice and can / will possibly do so again .. because each time that crests and troughs of emotions are so moving .. I come out feeling like I rode the roller coaster again. For me the drama steams with romance .. LOL
Love the OST also ..

The same happens for me in L&P - although its the same OTP .. the romancing is a 'tease' - many other non-romantic motives dominate and move the story - and the characters undergo a strong reversal of emotions and feelings .. the interactions are so sporadic and non-linear .. almost non-existent in large parts of the drama .. but we know the DRAMA would collapse if the romantic entanglements weren't driving the story and leading to character growth arcs.

But yes .. we all gravitate towards our own desserts ;-p LOL
Some LOVE LOVE bitter chocolate .. some love milk chocolate; and I actually know people who dislike chocolate totally and prefer a vanilla smoothie LOL

Loved all the characters - except the Mai character... She annoyed me no end....it's been a long time since a character made me grit my teeth so much.

Poor Le will lead an unhappy if life he hooks up with her (that's what we are given to believe in the final scene.

The Proff character was full of flaws too and his effort to change in the end didn't ring true at all.
Very out of character and cartoon ish.
But I guess that's part of the comedic effect the dram was aiming for via him.

Enjoyed watching the Hong Kong based actor Sunny playing Le.
Adorable.
