I agree with ur comment. I think GYY breaks up with JNZ because he doesn't want to burden her while knowing that…
I get what you mean but I can’t agree, I love the idea of Gu Yiye and A Xiu marrying each other😅A Xiu is just as dignified and noble as Gu Yiye, she understands him and he understands her. Even though they may not see it now because they are both grieving but I think they are soulmates and have the potential to become each other’s “true love”. I find the idea of two people that were brought together by circumstances and then slowly start to love and care for each other very romantic. So I am looking forward to see how they develop feelings for each other. Not all big love stories start with a passionate romance and imo seeing a relationship like this on screen is very refreshing. I don’t believe what Gu Yiye had with JNZ is true love, it’s just a juvenile romance between two hormonal teenagers. You can see how shallow it actually is when they face obstacles - GYY’s ptsd and GL wooing JNZ. The relationship also doesn’t bring GYY any comfort in his distress. At the same time I am sure that had Gu Yiye met A Xiu not as his leader’s wife for the first time , he would have fallen for her because of the type of person she is. Now they will both need some time to see each other as something more than Zhang Fei’s extension. But I am sure they will get there and I hope the drama will let them have their happy time together.
And can we talk how satisfying ep23 was? Finally GYY told GL everything he thinks about him. But most importantly GYY’s father told him what he needed to hear. That “I understand” was such a relief to hear😭I wish GYY finds his peace soon, my heart was breaking when he was talking about still feeling the weight of his leader on his back. He needs to find his peace soon before he goes insane or severely depressed with guilt. Maybe A Xiu will be able to help him with that. And by the way, telling someone who suffered loss or PTSD to “forget and move on” is quite literally the worst thing you can say. Though people probably didn’t give it much thought back then.
As for Gu Yiye and A Xiu’s relationship I think it’s too early to say that he is gonna marry her out of guilt. So far there haven’t been any signs that GYY is even thinking about it or that Xiu would even accept the idea. We only know that he is burdened with an immense sense of guilt and feels like he has to actually help A Xiu (instead of just talking about it, you know, like some other characters that shall not be named). I feel like he is going to break up with JNZ cause he understands that he can’t be there for her as a boyfriend while all his thoughts are focused on another woman and her problems, it doesn’t necessarily mean he intends to marry Xiu now. I may be wrong of course , we shall see soon. Still I hope if he does get together with Xiu, they will be able to navigate their way out of the tragedy and their conflicted emotions and find happiness with each other at last.
So from what we’ve learned from some of the dialogues and from that actor’s post Gu Yiye was bullied and disliked by his peers at first ( he hand was hurt and his food was poisoned so he collapsed during training). All this makes his relationship with the platoon leader even more significant and GYY’s survivor guilt even more understandable but, sadly, they cut all these important parts from the story. GYY is still obviously the emotional core of the drama (largely due to Xiao Zhan’s excellent portrayal of the character), he is the one facing loss and a moral dilemma (to do what he want to take care of his dead comrade’s family). It makes sense now where the extra 8 episodes went and whose scenes were cut to highlight other characters that don’t bear that much significance to the plot and whose scenes feel like fillers sometimes.
I feel I already disliked Gao Liang from like episode 5 or something so didn't really need 22 to tell me how bad…
I think Gu Yiye will come to love A Xiu. They understand each other and he cares for her a lot, maybe the fact that she was his leader’s wife is stopping him from even thinking about developing feelings now but I hope they will love each other in the future. Not all love stories start with a passionate affair
Probably yeah. At the same time it felt like she was dating both of them at the same time and was never there…
It’s hard to tell whose fault is that, I am just disgusted with both GL and JNZ. While GYY was grieving they were getting together behind his back, too preoccupied with who loves who instead of helping GYY process his emotions and his pain. Neither of them are truly there for GYY
Why do I feel that the last three or four episodes are a giant funeral and grieving process that took too long…
Isn’t how it actually is in life? Like a never ending nightmare. Countless losses and everyone is taking their time to heal. It would be weird if they moved on after losing most of the people from their platoon and at such a young age
I hardly think romance is what the board is interested in, especially for a propaganda piece. Gao Liang represents…
I don’t think GL represents nearly all Chinese citizens of that time. Unless they were all immoral selfish bastards which wasn’t the case. I think GL character doesn’t belong in the military at all
The emotional toll in 20 and 21 is very heavy. Though GYY is still in full grief mode, him standing up for both…
Ikr? I was starting to think that he’s not that bad and then he started a sob story about his brother, how he never got the chance to study and how he reads books secretly. That was…low
