I just watched the first episode, found it boring, dropped.I usually love watching military and political dramas…
It’s ok, maybe it’s not for you or maybe you could give it another try later. This drama starts as a story about young recruits’s growth, the war&military stuff comes later. And there’s no politics in it, except for maybe internal army issues

No I don’t think they’ll ever release all 48 episodes. Let’s just try to enjoy what we have

Yes, it’s a military exercise, basically training , not a real battle

I say watch it! The problem is that some characters are so great you can’t get enough of them and wish the drama would show more of them 😂 And if there are sorts that you find boring, just fast forward. It’s not a perfect show but it is definitely worth your attention, some episodes are so great I rewatched them multiple times

I am also inclined to think Gu Yiye and Gao Liang were supposed to be double male leads from the beginning. That’s probably why they gave him his position back. They only forgot to uncut his cut scenes. Cause looking at his screentime now it feels like there’s less than what a 3rd lead would usually get. I am so saddened by lack of GYY in the latest episodes, I am afraid if the trend continues we will get 5 seconds of him in the last episode. I still love Gu Yiye a lot, he’s my favorite Xiao Zhan character now.

There are not bts or comments from the directors or writers so far about the characters’ motivation. I think whoever wrote the script simply isn’t good at writing relationships and the patchy editing made the situation even worse. Cause yes, Gao Liang does come off as petty and jealous when he pursues JNZ but later they depict it as some sort of love of his life.
I happen to like arrange marriages trope lol There aren’t many of them but there certainly are people who dislike the idea of Gu Yiye and A Xiu being together. While I think she as well may me his one and only, you know, they just need time.
Releasing the cut scenes would equal to admiring they butchered Gu Yiye’s plot so I don’t think they will ever do that.

It does make perfect sense cause Gu Yiye is the emotional center of the whole drama even after all the edits. He’s the tortured soul who was supposed to overcome bullying and who represents the moral dilemma personal desire vs.duty. That’s literally main character arc. Looks like Gao Liang was supposed to be his best friend sidekick either second male lead or double male lead. Gu Yiye was definitely not supposed to be 2 male lead. So it was either first or double at least.
Xiao Zhan was signed to the project first + the fact that Xiao Zhan was filming a month longer than the other guy + Xiao Zhan was first billing when the drama was gathering investment.
Anyways, at this point it’s obvious Gu Yiye’s plot was cut mercilessly. They wanted to step on the actor but they only hurt the drama in the end. And he is still the one carrying the whole project. Talk about shooting themselves in the foot lol

Huh? Are you ok? 😅If you are having a bad day, I hope it gets better.
This drama has had a lot of controversy surrounding the billing and the position of male leads to the point that the officials had to issue a document forbidding manipulation and billing fraud when signing up leads for dramas. This was also arguably the reason why the drama was refused by CCTV.

I am simply sharing official info since you seemed confused. Won’t do that again, my bad

Please don’t spread misinformation, both Gu Yiye and Gao Liang are officially equal male leads. This is a double male lead drama, not a ml-fl one

Both Gao Liang and Gu Yiye are equal male leads. This is a double male lead drama, not a ml-fl one . According to the official announcement. And Ace Troops is not an idol romance drama so it doesn’t matter who the female character ends up with.

Bad editing and all the cuts that lead to plot holes is the biggest problems of this drama tbh

Oh, I’ve seen this movie! It’s amazing , the only Mulan I will acknowledge 😆

To be fair a great deal of “drama” in Ace Troops does come from the military setting, facing war and everything it entails. I would say that the rivalry between Gu Yiye and Gao Liang is what keeps the plot moving (the first episodes literally starts with a physical confrontation between the two). Their rivalry and constant fighting during training when there were still recruits naturally spread to their love affairs imo. All the love triangle drama really stems from Gao Liang being jealous of GuYiye and wanting to have everything he has. Or strip him of the things GL doesn’t or can’t have. Like the moment Gu Yiye broke up with JNZ, Gao Liang stopped actively pursuing her. So whatever the synopsis says they were never “friends that fail for the same girl”. They were enemies from the start, their relationship actually starts to resemble friendship only when after GL gets recognition as a soldier and GYY breaks up with JNZ. Personally I dislike watching romance but I didn’t mind it to much in the drama cause there’s plenty of military content and Gu Yiye’s love story is somewhat unconventional (if that’s why some people here hate it lol),he is a very interesting character. Gu Yiye struggles with ptsd and survivor’s guilt and I would say even depression. He tired signaling to the people around him about it in his own way “I am losing myself” , “If I’m so tired all the time l, I don’t want to be Gu Yiye “ etc. And back then no one really understood how to treat this condition, everyone is just telling him to suck it up and move on. And some even said “so k*ll yourself”, “”you shouldn’t have come back from the frontline”. So he just suffers and tries to deal with it alone. But that’s just first 25 episodes, we’ll what happens to him on the rest 15 episodes. Gu Yiye is my favorite character , I just wish he had more screentime

I would say that the drama is constantly shifting its focus from love affairs in a military set to military training and exercises. So if you aren’t into either of those things, you can just fast forward the parts you are not interested in.
The highlight of the drama to me is the portrayal of war and loss. The emotional climax falls on episodes 18-21 and believe me it is worth watching. Everyone who saw it cried their eyes out. All the important plot details have been spoilt to me already but I am still very much enjoying the drama for a few reasons 1) the acting , especially from Xiao Zhan and veteran actors 2) the portrayal of the aftermath of war in ep. 18-23 3) hot men in uniform lol

I certainly hope we don't get more AX. GYY and his career should be the focus, not his love life that's messed…
To me it’s not the deleted scenes that makes me ship them. Gu Yiye really liked A Xiu the first time he saw her. He was also already falling in love with her when he was reading those letters with Gao Liang. Out of all women in Gu Yiye’s life A Xiu also seems like the best match for him. She has similar values and understands what his job requires. That’s why I am not ally all opposed to the idea of them together and would enjoy seeing them together. The strongest marriages are are based on friendship or as you called it “companionship”. So I don’t think GYY is really a martyr for marrying A Xiu. It’s is quite common for people to fall for each other after years of being each other “companions”. I find it very romantic.
Not to mention he hasn’t been with JNZ for years, so he really isn’t sacrificing anything either here. Even though he was ready to do so.
But yeah, that’s just mi opinion, agree to disagree 😅

I think the point is that she didn’t accept his sacrifice and they are getting married now after so many years because they actually love each other and are make each other happy.

Other reasons aside… Didn’t she do the same thing to Gu Yiye? Only she didn’t even bother to break up with…
The thing is no matter how you feel about it, the other person in a relationship has the right to keep certain things to themselves. You don’t own your other half. Letting people share only what they are willing to share is also how you show respect. So I don’t think that Gu Yiye had an obligation to tell JNZ why he was breaking up with her, even though yeah it could have made it easier for her. Or not, who knows. JNZ mentioned it later too and she didn’t push him. Sometimes if a person won’t open up to you, there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s not wrong or right, you can’t judge people this way. Like it or not it’s a personal choice.
Also I didn’t say it was a competition, I explained why I don’t feel bad for her and why I don’t agree that GYY is somehow in the wrong here. Everyone has the right to quit a relationship on their own terms. And GYY did it in person, unlike JNZ.
