Omg, I cry like a baby when HuaHua's grandmother died. She sacrifice herself to protect the Ban family. GXT really…
Yes, her acting is good, so is Hou Ming Hao's acting - he's such a heartthrob.

Is the fl actually strong? Just asking cause I've been betrayed by the 'Strong Female Lead' tag way too many times…
I love this FL - fearless, strong (good in fighting), forthright (doesn't hide anything - speaks her mind), intelligent, compassionate. She has a wonderful family, her parents are open minded and they always respect her opinions. Her little brother is a joy, smart and always does things for her with or without her command. It's very nice to see her family's dynamics. I really like this drama :)

Does anyone have any idea which ancient dynasty(ies) this drama is similar to. From the dressing and hairstyles…
I believe the story is towards the end of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. The names of the characters do not match the historical figures; some are fictional, some are real. Xiao Qi is said to have founded a new dynasty and become the Emperor himself. In the real historical event, Xiao Qi was Liu Yu who founded the Liu Song Dynasty which came after the Eastern Jin Dynasty when Liu Yu toppled it.

Despite his tyranny, I like the 2nd prince for his devotion to her, and vice versa.
Amazing acting by Purba Rgyal. What race is he?

The emperor is really the master chess player:
Indeed he was. Remember the time when he purposely lost to A'wu so that she could request the Emperor for having her own choice for a husband? That was really brilliant. Everything he did, he moved a few steps ahead of his antagonists.

Hello guys ! I am new here. I have been lurking here (since the grand Joy of life days) but now I had to login…
As a God of War, normally they would cast an actor looking angry with no smiles to make him look fearsome. Not the case here. Zhou Yi Wei doesn't need to look fearsome. He looks so calm and relax but commanding, and as viewers, we know he's formidable.

It's always referred to as chess because of the character "qi" in "Weiqi"; "Qi" in Chinese means chess.
"Qi" means chess in Chinese. There are the weiqi or wei qi (GO), and xiangqi or xiang qi (very similar to the international chess).

I find it funny that there are people who consider the age of the lead actress to be a serious problem. These people…
People these days are very used to young faces, the younger the better, especially if these are idols. Therefore, they don't mind having a baby looking face acting as a fearsome general. They're also not so much concerned about acting skills - for them, anyone can act and can sing. What an insult to those actors and singers who have spent years honing their skills.
