The cdramalove synopsis you provided is more accurate, at least as of episode 20. I guess I just assumed the MDL…
I absolutely agree with you. The current synopsis is misleading. Maybe you need to write to the admin to ask them clarify this. I believe many don't watch the drama therefore not aware of its discrepancy. And they always prefer a source they can trust, unless you can convince them.
For anyone looking at the low-rating, give this drama a chance!! It's so cute and funny and really grows on you.…
Yes, I like this drama over Dating in the Kitchen too. I find this one has more depth, and the jokes are not blatant. One has to catch them between the homophones, hidden gestures etc. I simply love this drama.
Spot on. Eps 1-10 especially moved too fast with too many elements condensed into them. The chemistry between…
You're absolute spot on with the acting of both main leads. That's why I can't say I like Helan Mingyu despite of the sacrifices she has made and her love for Xiao Chengxu, precisely for how she is treating both men: the one she doesn't love but married to and the one she loves but can only look at from afar. Her expressions in both cases are the same. There's no yearning on her face when she looks at Xiao Chengxu privately/secretly. There's too much tenderness and affection when she's with Xiao Chengrui. I really wish she has the same demeanor with Chengrui as when she's with her grandfather - respect at a distance. But then again, I don't know if this is not unintended. What if the scriptwriters and directors want precisely this emotion from Helan Mingyu - her indifference - because she's going to be the Mother of the Nation? She has to hide all her sufferings silently. No one should see or know how she feels. To protect the ones she loves, she needs to have some kind of power or have influence over the powerful ones. Therefore, she needs to show certain level of affection towards her husband, and she may need to produce an heir eventually to maintain or garner more power.
As for Xiao Chengxu, I feel Cheng Yi's acting is perhaps better in terms of showing the viewers his emotions during those pivotal moments. I can't really feel his affection when he is with Mingyu in the old days, but I can feel his pain when he comes back to find her married, thinking she has moved on and doesn't love him anymore. I can feel the betrayal he's experiencing. After her marriage, I can also feel the hidden torments he is undergoing whenever Mingyu is present. I do feel the coldness he has towards his wife until at some point he softens only hardens again when he finds out what she has done. This is a very difficult character to play. On one hand, Cheng Yi has to show his torments to the viewers, on the other hand, these torments have to be hidden from the eyes of those around him, in particular, from the King.
Like you have said, let's see how the chemistry between the two after the King is dead and he's entrusted to guide the heir, and in frequent contact with his old flame. We're only 1/3 through our story, let's not jump into conclusion too soon.
After I finished this drama, I was in awe. I've never thought romance can be expressed this way. This is the most beautiful romance I've ever seen, well surpasses most heterosexual romances.
From the recent discussions and plotlines available, we now know that Xiao Chengxu will die in battle. We have seen all his sufferings over the years. But in the end, who do you think suffers the most? To me, Helan Mingyu does. The living one usually suffers and sacrifices the most. She has to continue living for the greater good of all, hiding her pains and emotions.
Apparently this drama follows the plotline of Kangxi Emperor of Qing Dynasty. Therefore, there won't be passionate love anymore; power and country take over. Everyone just dies with no remorse nor redemption, just like real life, and life goes on. The Empress and Dowager Empress always get bad names, but they are the ones holding the country together, well, usually.

There goes my beautiful dream :C
1. Xiao Chengrui must have come on to her by force and makes her submit to him. This scene must be pretty obscene. 2. Xiao Chengxu must be devastated hearing the pregnancy. 3. Killing Xiao Chengxu off in battle, that's the end of this drama for me. I'm watching this for Cheng Yi, despite it's been so hard to watch. Once he's gone, I'm done!
I can't count the number of times I cried while watching this show. It's too realistic. I especially connect with…
Your story sounds all too familiar. Yes, Qi Mingyue's mother is a typical Asian Tiger mom, and the children such mothers produce are usually top students going to ivy-league schools, musical prodigies, future doctors, engineers, lawyers, scientists etc. I guess what we should learn from our parents is not to treat our own children this way in future. When our parents are old and we look back, that's what really hits us, and this drama has beautifully reflected all this in front of our eyes. That's why it makes us cry.
Why is everyone so turned off by the English title? That was what got me interested in this drama in the first…
That's the thing - the title sounds comedic and cartoonish, and a lot of people don't like it too comedic though they like comedies which are different. I wasn't going to watch it but I had nothing else to watch so I tried the first episode. Now this is my favorite airing drama.
Things are looking up from hints after today's episodes - 17 and 18. So it's not doom and gloom anymore, though…
I think, in a way, she does because she overhears the conversation in the library, but the conversation also doesn't confirm outright that he's involved. Over the years, he has been kind to her and has been a good ruler, so she doesn't hate or dislike him. Furthermore, she knows if she says anything, she would endanger Xiao Chengyu and Xiao Chengxuan. I have a feeling that she is using her current position, a situation that she can't walk away, to help pave way for Xiao Chengyu. Like Chengyu, she is silent, patient and laying very low.
Her sister comes back into the picture with her husband dead. Remember she's in love with Xiao Chengrui earlier? If it really develops the way I suspect it would, dang! this man already has 2 wives from the same family. He's going to get a third one? How greedy can he be?

Not romantically. She even flinches when he tries to caress her. After the Xi Qi encounter, I believe she wouldn't want any intimacy with him completely though she would still perform her perfunctory duty as a wife.

Dang! This drama is unbearable!
