Doesn't make a lot of sense, unless this is really so - the aunt is in cohort.

At 27, Ziqiu is very immature in the boy/girl stuff. He doesn't even know what romantic love is. His love for Jianjian is platonic but he can't tell the difference. He just wants to protect her so that she doesn't succumb to his mother's fate. Eventually when he realizes there's a mutual love affair between Jianjian and Ling Xiao, I think he would be very relieved, and finds his true love in Ming Yue. So don't worry. This is going to be a happy ending.

She only starts to treat Ziqiu better when he helps her fight off the bullies. But still she always bullies Ziqiu and treasure Ling Xiao. Ziqiu seems to take it in stride with no bitterness at all; he is always grateful. What an adorable character.
