No wonder the dynasty ended in less than a generation. Poor Liu Yikang, thinking he could do something differently (with all the reforms) for the people.

Yes, that "incompetent" Emperor later killed Liu Yikang, and he himself killed by his own son (true story). This is karma :)

Despite the last episode which seems to indicate Li Ge has died by drinking the poisonous wine herself, and all the later scenes which are perhaps just Liu Yikang's imagination/memories of her, I'd like to think otherwise. These are the 2 things that make me think she hasn't died:
1. When Liu Yikang gets there, her body has gone. That means she may have been saved by someone.
2. Liu Yikang goes to their hide-away place and eats dinner and comments that it still tastes as bad as before. That means she may have cooked it for him.

So my interpretation is, she's still alive. She may have feigned her death just like before in the earlier episodes before Shen Leqing discovers it. I would choose this happy ending. Hope you would too to avoid any depression :D

It says, "3 years later". So either he has overcome his loss, or it has no logical sense, you pick.

He isn't the Emperor. It's just saying life goes on as usual for him. His reforms are implemented successfully.

BTW, Peng Cheng Wang also receives a pardon for her from the Emperor. So I don't really know if she actually has died and everything thereafter is just Liu Yikang's memories/imagination of her, or she actually hasn't died but being hidden away. The last few scenes are up to interpretation, how ever you want to interpret them.

Yeah, the ending is so typical of Chinese dramas - unnecessary deaths that the writers are trying to make them look like martyrs.

The Emperor demands her death in 3 days because in Wang Mian's confession, he implicates Li Ge as one of his assassins. Seeing Peng Cheng Wang being torn, she decides to end herself (doesn't make any sense to me, nonetheless, this is typical annoying Chinese drama ending).
