Definitely this drama's ending is different from the original novel. I love this ending.

Title Good Bye, My Princess Spoiler
Rumors (currently trending on Weibo) that the leads are filming more scenes (perhaps alternate endings?) and that…
As far as I'm concerned, in the last episode, Episode 52, though Xiao Feng slit her own throat, she might not have died; she was carried away by her brother. There was no tomb of hers. In old age, Li Chen Yin abdicated himself and went in search of her; he'd never believe she died. So, if they are really making new episodes, it may be about their 3rd life together. This time, both are old and frail. Ahhhh, all the lost years! What a shame!

Me too! That's why I keep coming back here even I have finished watching the whole thing. I hope the new movie for this story would address LCY 's remorse ie. if he were given a chance to start over, he would give up revenge and elope with Xiao Feng.

Just my very ameteur opinion on the "Goodbye My Princess" storyline and characters: to me, it was always the narrative…
Well said. Despite setting all out to take down Prime Minister Gao at all cost, I still wish Li Chen Yin show a bit of remorse at the end to redeem his soul, and to make him a better loved character. After all, he betrayed Xiao Feng's love and trust. He never asked for forgiveness from Xiao Feng; she was the one who had forgiven him.

I very much think so now that I've finished the drama. With the movie, I hope it shows some remorse from Li Chen Yin so that he can redeem himself in the eyes of the viewers. Also, don't let him touch SeSe. He can use her but not in bed with her. Can't take that!

Title Good Bye, My Princess Spoiler
Warning: This post here is only for those who want to know what happens to the main characters at the end of the story. If you want suspension, don't read.

At the end of the story, here is the main characters’ fate:

1. Xiao Feng – she went back to her country, the Western Kingdom and averted a bloodshed between her people and Li Chen Yin’s soldiers. She then slit her own throat right in front of Li Chen Yin, her brother and tens of thousands of soldiers of both sides. After her last words to Li Chen Yin, her brother grabbed her and carried her away. Li Chen Yin never saw her again. Neither was there her tomb. I’d like to think that the Western Kingdom has some magic potion that can save a person’s life (wasn’t Gu Jian saved after he fell off into the abyss?) or revive a person and Xiao Feng is still alive. She is immortal.

2. Li Chen Yin – inevitably he became the emperor; that’s all he had wanted and groomed to be all his life. However, unlike most other emperors, Li Chen Yin stopped loving another woman. He never remarried, never had any children. When he felt he had put his kingdom on a proper prosperous path, he abdicated himself, and let his 3rd brother’s son become the next emperor. His 3rd brother should have been the crown prince after the 2nd Prince was executed, but Li Chen Yin played him out (correction: it's not LCY but the Empress). So now, he gave the kingship back to his brother’s line. He didn’t believe Xiao Feng is dead, and went off in search of her and became a hobo.

3. Ah Du – she assassinated General Gao as he is now colluding with the Western Kingdom to start a war with Li Chen Yin. Ah Du knew Xiao Feng wanted to stop the war, so she went ahead and assassinated Gao and got herself killed. She was a martyr.

4. General Pei – As always, an obedient loyal servant by Li Chen Yin's side

5. The Emperor – Got a stroke and paralyzed when his favorite concubine, Ming Yue, killed herself right beside him in his sleep.

6. Mr Chai, Gu Jian’s foster father – He was trying to disappear from the world after he avenged the murder of Gu’s and his family. But the Emperor couldn’t let him live. He was served poison wine and died. I think that's why his daughter, Ming Yue, killed herself to hurt the Emperor for killing her father.

7. Prime Minister Gao – whole family was arrested and executed. His pregnant concubine daughter was given abortive medicine by the emperor to have the baby killed. She died too as a result.

8. SeSe – she became insane when Li Chen Yin admitted to her that he had never loved her. Instead he had been using her all these years to advance his own agenda.

I love this ending. Each gets what each deserves. Now, I have my closure.

Oh, one last note, I wish Li Chen Yin shows some remorse at the end. He never because he has always felt what he did was what he needed to do, his duty. But in hind sight, when Xiao Feng hated him, has he ever thought if he could start over, he would do it differently and forgo revenge?

The acting, especially by Peng Xiao Ran, is very good and convincing. You should start watching it. For me, I'm so drawn into this drama that I feel void now that it's finished.

@chinesedramafan - Fantastic write-up! All human emotions were shown in the drama.....greed, regret, love, longing.…
Yes, I've started watching the 2nd time too, and find myself even better understand LCY's character, why he is making certain decisions etc.

China is placing a ban on historical dramas until June. This must be why they cut so many scenes, so that this…
Historical dramas tend to be very political. The stories normally talk about abuse of power, injustice, official corruption, misogyny, plutocracy etc – not unlike what is happening in the current China Government. These dramas are, undoubtedly, seen as criticisms of the government, and are not permissible under an autocracy, hence the suppression. The Chinese Government is also trying to carry out social engineering on their society. Only time will tell if it is the right thing to do. I’m just so grateful that we still have many brave writers and undeterred film makers who consistently produce such wonderful movies and dramas to bring the stories to life.

Just finished watching this drama. It is sad, sad, sad but I love the ending. It makes everything "right". Everyone has closure. I will write more about what I mean by "right" when I have more time to digest the whole story.

There are many underlying messages in this story. The obvious being sacrifice for the greater good. The rating should have been higher if not because it is a tragedy and most viewers shun away from tragedies which I can understand (me and my pals here went through a roller coaster ride emotionally if you know what I mean).

The acting is just wonderful by all the actors and actresses, in particular, the lead actors. Peng Xiao Ran is the most awesome of all. She is natural, and exudes purity and beauty. I just love her. Despite all the bad decisions Li Cheng Yin had made (in our eyes), to him they (the decisions) were something he had to do, so he was never remorseful. At the end of the story, I kept asking myself, with hind sight, if Li Cheng Yin were given a chance to start over, would he still choose to deceive Xiao Feng and hurt her the way he did? Would he and Gu Jian both give up their revenge and elope with Xiao Feng? But then, that would be the end of the story.

"Things are not what they seem", that’s another message of the story. Painful as things are, one still has to go through life (just like Xiao Feng and many others did). Xiao Feng eventually learns to forgive and averts a bloodshed. She becomes immortal.

The sound tracks are simply out of this world. The meaning of each is deep, touching and sorrowful. I particularly love the “Little Fox” song, which brings me vivid imagination of a girl riding her horse freely on the steppes, unaware of being watched by her admirer and protector.

To me, this drama is a must-watch. Two thumbs up!!!

It gets worse to the point of painful, but me and my new pals at "Goodbye My Princess" are hopelessly following it and getting ourselves hurt over and over again. We support each other at this forum and bash the MLs. That's the only way we could get through it. I know I'm crazy, but who cares XD

Yes, what's good to watch a movie/drama without someone to share with? If a story is bad, we can all bash it together. If it's good, we can all share our adoration. It makes one feel good, and move on. Hard to find someone in my family to watch what I like. They all have their own favorites.
