China is placing a ban on historical dramas until June. This must be why they cut so many scenes, so that this…
Historical dramas tend to be very political. The stories normally talk about abuse of power, injustice, official corruption, misogyny, plutocracy etc – not unlike what is happening in the current China Government. These dramas are, undoubtedly, seen as criticisms of the government, and are not permissible under an autocracy, hence the suppression. The Chinese Government is also trying to carry out social engineering on their society. Only time will tell if it is the right thing to do. I’m just so grateful that we still have many brave writers and undeterred film makers who consistently produce such wonderful movies and dramas to bring the stories to life.

On Good Bye, My Princess Mar 26, 2019
Just finished watching this drama. It is sad, sad, sad but I love the ending. It makes everything "right". Everyone has closure. I will write more about what I mean by "right" when I have more time to digest the whole story.

There are many underlying messages in this story. The obvious being sacrifice for the greater good. The rating should have been higher if not because it is a tragedy and most viewers shun away from tragedies which I can understand (me and my pals here went through a roller coaster ride emotionally if you know what I mean).

The acting is just wonderful by all the actors and actresses, in particular, the lead actors. Peng Xiao Ran is the most awesome of all. She is natural, and exudes purity and beauty. I just love her. Despite all the bad decisions Li Cheng Yin had made (in our eyes), to him they (the decisions) were something he had to do, so he was never remorseful. At the end of the story, I kept asking myself, with hind sight, if Li Cheng Yin were given a chance to start over, would he still choose to deceive Xiao Feng and hurt her the way he did? Would he and Gu Jian both give up their revenge and elope with Xiao Feng? But then, that would be the end of the story.

"Things are not what they seem", that’s another message of the story. Painful as things are, one still has to go through life (just like Xiao Feng and many others did). Xiao Feng eventually learns to forgive and averts a bloodshed. She becomes immortal.

The sound tracks are simply out of this world. The meaning of each is deep, touching and sorrowful. I particularly love the “Little Fox” song, which brings me vivid imagination of a girl riding her horse freely on the steppes, unaware of being watched by her admirer and protector.

To me, this drama is a must-watch. Two thumbs up!!!

Yes, this is a sweet, sweet, sweet drama to watch. Funny with a straight face. This is my antidote after watching…
It gets worse to the point of painful, but me and my new pals at "Goodbye My Princess" are hopelessly following it and getting ourselves hurt over and over again. We support each other at this forum and bash the MLs. That's the only way we could get through it. I know I'm crazy, but who cares XD

I second @Kim MC. Like many others, both of us are in deep emotional turmoil watching this drama. kisskh.com…
Yes, what's good to watch a movie/drama without someone to share with? If a story is bad, we can all bash it together. If it's good, we can all share our adoration. It makes one feel good, and move on. Hard to find someone in my family to watch what I like. They all have their own favorites.

OMG, just checked out the cast. The 2 female leads are my favorite actresses. They are very good.

Nah, don't think I'm going to go through the angst all over again. I'll pass with the 2020 movie, unless Ruby promises a more acceptable ending. Don't think I can take it the second time. As it is, I'm already embroiled in all the emotional turmoil. Heck, I'm supposed to feel entertained and happy with watching dramas, not getting into this mess that I need to share my anguish with people in the same boat, almost constantly :( I'm so glad you help us vent out this anguish with your language. Love it!

Yep, and never explains what function of each of her (Hua Bu Qi's) character is, especially Bi Luo Tian's Holy Lady - what does she do and what power does she possess? Just to be sacrificed and that's it? Seems pretty shallow to me.

Good call, but you might regret it. On the other hand, save yourself tons of tears and angst, like many of us…
Nope, you're absolutely right. That's the irony of the whole thing. We love the FL, we also kind of love the ML when the two are together and the ML didn't remember what he had done. Our discussion here is, we try to find some kind of justification that the ML can have to redeem himself so that he is deserved to be loved by the FL (and hence the viewers). It's hard. He doesn't seem to deserve any love at all, not even from his concubine, SeSe (who most viewers hate).

Yep! Power and money blind one's eyes. No matter how one may start with a noble aspiration in the beginning, many succumb to the temptation of what money and power can offer.

As far as writing a book, I'm a romance buff who loves "happily ever after" endings. So my book would have been the Cinderella/Snow White kind of endings, which would be super boring in this time of age, and I doubt anyone would want to read it.

I'm at episode 10 rn... the amount of angst is no joke. I honestly cannot think of a scenario where I will EVER…
How you feel is exactly how I felt after I watched episode 10. But slowly I grew to empathize, sympathize and love them both. It's ironic, but that's how it is with our twisted emotion, successfully "manipulated" by this drama. For me, I love the 1st male lead, but at the same time, I curse him and want to strangle him. Sigh! I know I've been had by this drama but can't help myself but keep watching it.

May I ask, are the leads in this drama faithful to each other? I love all the stills/photos, but am loathe to…
I second @Kim MC. Like many others, both of us are in deep emotional turmoil watching this drama. kisskh.com is our goto place to bash those who give us pain. I think you would love as well as hate at the same time with this drama. Certain episodes are painful to watch (painful because the acting is so good), but there are many cute and light moments especially when the female lead is involved. She is one of the best actresses as far as I'm concerned. This is my first drama that I fall for a female lead and hate a male lead, despite how good looking he is.

We don't know how this drama may end, whether it is going to stick to the novel or there will be changes. I'm hoping it was all a dream, and nothing bad had happened to anybody because, as it is, the story is just too painful. I don't think I can move pass this drama if it ends badly, unless some new good dramas come to air right after.

I love General Pei too. He's the typical obedient, piety type of person, who would obey his superior blindly, right or wrong. He's the type of men, in my opinion, most women should marry to, and he would ensure taking up all the burden of the household and protect his family with his life with no question.

Bad as we are as women (I'm assuming you're one), we tend to fall for the bad boy type of men. We seek adventure, unconformity, flamboyance, sweet talk, even just for a moment of pleasure, from men who don't deserve to be loved, bringing ourselves heartache, pain and betrayal.

How LCY's character is being portrayed , is not a far-fetched portrayal of many powerful men to this day since ancient time in both eastern and western societies. We can see it clearly as a third party, and yet many still fall for disastrous relationships.
