So I binge watched this, now I feel like I'm in withdrawal. I dont know witch project to start that can equal…
There are 2 dramas currently airing which have top notch cinematography like this: The Longest Day in Chang An and Novoland: Eagle Flag. Novoland is in the same genre (adventure fantasy), but you might want to wait until it's finished. It's currently on ep 22 (English sub up until ep 13) out of 56. Chang An is an historical action drama, heavier in theme but is fast paced.

They wrote the summary based on the drama. There are tons of changes in the movie, and some characters in the drama don't make it to the movie.

Ji Ye and Yu Ran
Ah, thank you! How will the wedding save Ji Ye, if I may ask?
Also, with the romance developing between Ji Ye & Yu Ran while she's officially Guichen's wife, she technically cheats on him, no?

Ji Ye and Yu Ran
So there's actually no wedding scene between Yu Ran and Guichen?

"Easily move on and accept his new identity?" I personally think 2 years is a reasonable amount of time to finally…
This is how I worded it: 'LGC seems to "easily" move on and embrace his new identity'. It was discussed earlier that it might have been the editing that made it seem like the time gap is shorter. Agree, after 2 years he's used to (aka accept) his new identity. But by 'embrace' I was referring to him telling Lv Song that he wants to contribute something to the Qinyang tribe. He still has nightmares about the slaughtering day. So I personally think he's not only avenging for Suma, but also -- unconsciously and indirectly -- for the Zhengyangs.

Tan Qi is just so well-written and well-acted. The most realistic and complex 'strong' woman character I've came…
I agree wholeheartedly that Tan Qi is well-written AND well-acted. While Rayza didn't have much scene in Tribe & Empires (and personally the character wasn't memorable to me either), she stands out here. She emotes really well with her eyes and I love that she sometimes uses her eyebrows for expressions (which I find quite rare among actresses).

It's interesting that you use Xia Dong as a comparison. Xia Dong is actually my favorite female character in NIF, more so than Princess Ni Huang. Part of the reason is how she's portrayed -- so that's the credit to the actress -- as a no nonsense, capable officer. The other part is because her character is aspirational, an independent working woman in ancient time, equal to her male counterparts.

However, I don't think Tan Qi's participating in the investigation is very out of norm. Didn't women enjoy greater freedom during the Tang era and Taoism regard men and women equal?

Episode 6 is where Liu Haoran shines IMO, particularly in the scene after they kill the Redteeth warrior. I want to thank him, for his portrayal has won back my faith to Lv Guichen. I was still a little disturbed that LGC seems to "easily" move on and embrace his new identity as the Crown Prince of Qinyang, reasons and time gap notwithstanding. But the moment he rejoices upon killing the Redteeth, all the emotions surface. I believe that at that time he's not only avenging for Suma, but for the whole Zhengyang tribe. Suma is not merely his childhood friend. She's his only link to his past identity, something that he will never be able to brush off. And I think I can see all of those in Liu Haoran's portrayal.

I must add that up to this episode, I didn't find Haoran's performance -- or the character to be exact -- a stand out. Brooding Ji Ye and his killer tanned skin stole the show for me from the get go. (And I'm part of the minority here who find Yu Ran annoying). But now I'm looking forward to what Liu Haoran will offer in his character's growth.

Thank you! I've been wondering who he is & his motives. It will be interesting to see which people (esp from the court or other govt agencies) he's recruited.

Thank goodness we left LOTR in ep3 and moved to Goodbye My Princess male version.
LOL that's my question as well. But as somebody said downthread, actually a few years have passed between the two scenes. Still, if Asule/Lv Guichen still has nightmares from the slaughter day, I find it hard to believe he doesn't keep a grudge against the QIngyangs the least.

Did Djimon Hounsou (Ge Lao) really do the Mandarin dialogue himself? If yes, hats off! Great performance!!!
I don't think so, though great camera angle (and his English lines) I must say. There are a few scenes where it's obvious his lips' movements aren't in sync with the Mandarin lines.
