I have been recommended about HnG, but I don't know that AMAiHT has friendship there (probably the investigation…
Horizon Tower has friendship there -- not the investigation team -- and I was in awe of how it was beautifully revealed. Thanks for the advance notif of your upcoming article -- will surely check it out!
I only watch Cdramas, but these are great choices for the friendship list! Adding my voice to Hikaru No Go, and I'd also suggest A Murderous Affair in Horizon Tower.
Yeah sadly marriage between first cousins in China didn't become illegal until 1980. That said, marriage between…
My tribe group has similar tradition. Back then, cousins from siblings (brother & sister) were encouraged to wed. For instance, if I (an F) have a son, he will be paired off with my brother's daughter. It's not widely practiced anymore, but certainly such tradition used to exist in various communities.
I don't know how I feel about episode 19. I mean he announces their engagement without actually asking her to…
I suspect it's the editing. Apparently there are tons of cut that didn't make it to the final product, and somehow they affect the flow, as well as putting the characters in not so positive light (as you can see in the BTS clip shared by some posters below). But who knows, maybe bad writing too eheh. Or they deliberately let the characters show their flaws.
Anyone has recommendation for similar wuxia dramas like this? One with natural color pallete and make up, use…
I'd also add the Longest Day in Chang An -- it's basically a political drama but more action-oriented, with the best cinematography and art direction of any Cdramas in recent year.
I was worried Lu Jin would continue to allow Li Man and his mother insult Sheng Nan, but thank goodness he didn’t…
I don't understand LJ's mom. (Or the writing of her character, to be exact). I feel like it's her way of "revenging" to LJ since he's so firm about his relationship with Shengnan. Or maybe it's her way to tell Shengnan not to let LJ's protection to her head?
You do know that Chinese dramas OFTEN change characters gender, right? Not only due to censorship. For instance,…
And that's why I said that the changes are not ONLY because of censorship. Producers always make changes in novel adaptations -- even classic Jin Yong novels are not immune from it. (Just like the case of Swordsman that I mentioned -- and no, the gender change of Dongfang Bubai doesn't have anything to do with censors nor societal values. It's merely creative liberty).
As for Immortality, I think there are still ways to show Mo Ran & Chu Wanning mutual affections even when -- or ESPECIALLY when -- there's an important female character in the group. For the record, I never thought you attacked Chen Yao, so we're good at that :)
